Saona Island. Part of a nature reserve in Del Este National Park. With its many caves and lagoons, the island is a sanctuary for migratory birds.
Los Haitises National Park. A protected area with interesting geological formations, vegetation and wildlife. Sites inside the park include El Angel Cave, Los Pájaros Coves, a tropical rainforest, mangrove swamps, and several caves with underground rivers.
Chavon Heights. Known as the city of artists, this place is the residence of many local and international artists. It has an art school, excellent restaurants, a pre-Hispanic art museum, and an imposing amphitheater.
Limon Falls. This impressive 55 meter high waterfall is located in a tropical rainforest in the Samana peninsula.
Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia in Higüey. This sanctuary houses the statue of the virgin Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia, protectress and queen of the hearts of the Dominican people. The statue has had the honor of being crowned by the pope on two occasions, once by Pius XI on August 15th, 1922, and the second time by John Paul II on January 25th, 1979.
