Morocco is an African country in the Maghreb, bathed by the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. The full name of the country can be translated as The West Kingdom. For its special geo-strategic interest, Morocco has been sought by Phoenicians, Sephardic Jews, Romans, French, Spanish, German, English ...

It has 33 million inhabitants of which 70% are ethnic Arab, Berber 29.8% and 1.2% other ethnicities. The official religion is Islam and the king represents the highest Islamic religious authority.

Casablanca,(Dar Bida, popular lang.), is Morocco’s largest city and its most important port. It is considered the financial capital, although the official capital and seat of government is Rabat.
The city was founded by the Portuguese who named it Casa Branca in 1515 after destroying the city of Anfa.


Situated to the west, on the Atlantic coast, Casablanca has a population of 2,950,000, although including the suburbs, the city has a population of around 5 million.

 Mohamed V Square. Situated in the heart of the city, between the ancient medina and the modern city.
 Ancient Medina. Ancient city partly surrounded by sixteenth-century walls, including: the Bad Jédih and Bab Marrakech gates, the Sidi Kairouani sanctuary, the Scala, the old eighteenth-century bastion and the Ould el Hamra and Dar El Makhzen mosques
 The Mahkama of the Pasha. On Boulevard Victor Hugo is a beautiful example of traditional Moroccan architecture
 La Corniche. The esplanade and coast road lead to Anfa, a residential area of magnificent villas. 
 Arab League Park. Pleasant green space in the midst of an urban setting
 Hassan II Mosque. The biggest mosque in the world. Its minaret is also the tallest in the world at 210 metres. Its location next to the sea is due to Hassan II being inspired by a verse of the Koran: "The Throne of the Gods lay on the water". This is one of the few mosques that allows visits from non-Muslim tourists.
Gastronomy Gastronomy
Moroccan cuisine is a refined fusion of vegetables, aromatic spices, delicate fish dishes, tasty meats and fruit impregnated with the sun.
Mint Tea, a herb tea made from mint that helps to relax, revive and invigorate. It can be drunk in the morning, after lunch or at any time.
Couscous is the best known traditional dish. It’s the traditional Friday family lunch. Made from steamed semolina, it can be accompanied by vegetables, meat or fish.
Tagine, a meat, chicken or fish ragout, accompanied by stewed vegetables. Like couscous, it has numerous possible combinations.
Pastilla, a fine puff pastry, filled with pigeon and almonds. The famous Moroccan “savoury sweet”.
Mechui, lamb roasted very slowly on a spit or in an oven so that the meat melts in the mouth.
Shopping Shopping
The Habous District, also known as the new Medina, is surrounded by little squares and porticoed streets with lively artisan shopkeepers and home to the Dar Al Makhzen and Sidi Mohammed Ben Youssef mosques
Casablanca is very highly regarded for its leather goods and Mediouna carpets.
Dakhla and Agadir are renowned for their leatherwork and silver objects and precious stones.
Fez is the arts and crafts capital: wool and silk brocade fabrics, engravings, saddle-making and its wonderful “Fez blue"  ceramics
Ouarzarate is home to workshops that make and sell stone objects, carpets and ceramics. The carpets in particular, known as "ouzguita", are desired and are characterised by their orange background and made from silky wool. They are famous for their leatherwork, silver objects, precious stones and weapons.
