Wines with Style Special
The town of Laguardia lies on a hillock, which means that within a radius of several kilometres you can make it out from the distance. Declared a Monumental Complex, the town preserves its Medieval structure, with a defensive rampart and 5 entrance doors. What makes Laguardia so special is its underground design: almost every house has its own cellar (up to 320 have been tallied so far). A labyrinth of galleries and passageways in which the wines ferment silently in semidarkness. Meanwhile, on the surface, only pedestrians and the occasional cyclist are able to pass through the narrow and barely lit streets of Laguardia.
Road traffic is banned in this town due to the fact that the subsoil is completely perforated. That restriction means you can enjoy a pleasant and peaceful visit at any time of the day. When strolling through its paved streets you will pass by wine cellars, bars where you can taste a harvest wine and some “pintxos”, as well as taverns and restaurants offering haute cuisine.
In these marvellous surroundings you will find one of the most peculiar wine cellars still surviving between the city walls of Laguardia. The Fabulista wine cellar has two winepresses in which the wine is made the traditional way, treading the grapes according to custom.
At a depth of seven metres lie three underground cellars linked to each other. One is for the making of the wine, another for the aging of the wine and the third is equipped for the tasting of the wine, whether white or red, young or aged.
During the visit you will discover the secrets of the artisan making of a good wine, you will learn the history of the wine cellar and the city of Laguardia, and to round off the visit you will taste two wines and take your first steps in the fascinating world of wine tasting.
