Description of the area

Punta Cana makes paradise a reality. It is a place with a fascinating and welcoming environment that is ideal to enjoy wonderful Caribbean vacations. Between palm trees and coconut palms, you can enjoy the Playa Bávaro, a beautiful 3 km long beach of fine white sand, bathed by turquoise waters.

In addition to its paradise beaches, Punta Cana also has a wide range of sporting activities on offer such as sailing, golf, fishing and scuba diving.

Cuisine

Dominican cuisine is a reflection of the Spanish and African influences that have determined the country’s social and cultural formation. The typical national dish is sancocho, a stew that combines different meats, beans, plantains and yams. Other specialties include roast pork, all types of fish and seafood, and a wide variety of exquisite tropical fruits.

Visits

Isla Saona. Part of Parque Nacional del Este nature reserve. There are caves and lagoons inland on the island, which serve as a sanctuary for migratory birds.

Los Haitises National Park. Area protected for its geological formation and its flora and fauna. The El Ángel cave can be found in the park, as well as the Los Pájaros cays, a tropical rainforest, mangroves and different caverns with underground rivers.

Cascada el Limón. An impressive 55m high waterfall located in a rainforest in Samaná.

Altos de Chavón. Known as the artists’ villa, is home to national and international art. It houses an art school, excellent restaurants, a pre-Hispanic art museum and an imposing amphitheater.

Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Sanctuary in Higüey. Here you can find the image of Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia (Our Lady of Altagracia), the patron saint of all Dominicans.

Shopping

In Plaza Dominicana, located within the Barceló hotel complex, there is an array of shops where you can find handmade products from the country, ranging from the typical guayabera (a very light and comfortable shirt made from pure linen) to different clay figurines, amber, larimar or coral jewelry, ceramics and furniture made from mahogany.
