Description of the area

The numerous Mayan archaeological sites and the kilometres of white sandy beaches and crystal-clear water are the major attractions of the Riviera Maya, a paradise located in the Yucatan Peninsula, to the south of Cancun.

Its tiny coves and stunning bays are bathed by the Caribbean Sea’s sparkling turquoise waters, which turns silver in the moonlight.

Visit the Riviera Maya and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of this extensive coast from where you can admire the second largest coral reef in the world. Culture and beauty are splendidly combined in this spectacular destination, where you can marvel at the exotic vegetation of its natural parks.

Gastronomy

Mexican food is amongst the most diverse and delicious in the world. Flour tortillas form the basis of Mexican cuisine, in which grilled meats are a particular feature, accompanied by somewhat spicy sauces, salads, vegetables and a wide variety of delicious fruits.

Octopus, squid and prawns, whether marinated in lime, grilled, battered or served in a sauce, alongside delicious lobster freshly caught in the coastal areas are just a few delicious examples of the country’s rich cuisine.

Highlights of Mayan Riviera cuisine include pork-based dishes such as “Cochinita Pibil” (baked marinated pork) and “Poc-chuc” (mixed grill), steamed tamales, “Tikin-xic” (fish marinated in anchiote and sour orange) and a wide variety of succulent seafood.
