Punta Cana is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean — and one of the most stylish! Influencer Jyo Shankar recently discovered the magic of the Dominican Republic during her stays at Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort and Occidental Punta Cana.

How would you describe Bávaro style?

Jyo Shankar: Bávaro style to me was the perfect mix of contemporary chic meets warm tropical vibes.

Jyo Shankar: Sundresses, floppy hat, bikinis — lots of them, haha, because you will end up living in them! Sunscreen, camera, beach bag and evening dresses are a few more of my Punta Cana essentials.

Jyo Shankar: I would recommend a beach dinner at Occidental Punta Cana. We did this on one of the nights and it was sooooo magical! If you are headed here for your honeymoon or even for a girls’ trip, this would be such a fun idea for a toes-in-the-sand experience! I also highly recommend visiting Hoyo Azul in Scape Park as well as Saona Island. Vacacionnes Barcelo has great excursion options to choose from.

Jyo Shankar: My fave was the restaurant within the royal level at Occidental Punta Cana. The décor was so beautiful (all white and blue!) and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the seafood – the spicy ceviche and the shrimp cocktail were both amazing. I also loved all the fresh juice and tropical fruits at Barceló Bávaro. We were spoilt for choice! I totally lived on passionfruit juice and delicious juicy mangoes all through my trip…

What tips do you have for anyone following in your footsteps on this trip?

Jyo Shankar: I think my main tip is to split your time across different properties so that you get unique and diverse experiences. I always try and do this in most of my travels. In Punta Cana, I loved splitting my time across Barceló Bávaro and Occidental Punta Cana. Both hotels were very different in their vibe; yet both had the amazing Barceló hospitality. If you have even more time I recommend driving down to Santo Domingo to get another different experience — and I have heard that the Barceló Santo Domingo is fab too!Follow Jya’s further adventures at instagram.com/jyo_shankar and get inspired for your own Dominican getaway at instagram.com/barcelobavarograndresort and instagram.com/occidentalpuntacana.
