“Went because we got a CRAZY good deal”

We knew that all-inclusive places often don't have the best food, and we were going at shoulder season - at the beginning of October. There was construction noise EVERY day - which was difficult. And some things weren't operational when we were there. Given the very low price we paid, though, it was fine. The staff was very friendly & helpful.

    “Coral seafood restaurant”

Excellent food service from Estaphane was exceptional. Manager from Santa Fe, Frankie was out of this world. Beach was spotless, the staff were so helpful. The resort is humongous and lots of variation.

“A Great Hotel, with an excellent staff”

+ Pros: Its a good family hotel. + The staff is great, have a excellent service attitude. + The installations are clean and well maintenance. + The speciality restaurants of italian and asian food its someting that I recomend, the chef and the waiters make the diference in my stay. + I pay the premium level category service; and the rooms are nice, clean and good, but not great (maybe becose i expect the old room of the Barcelo Premium Los Cabos, that i remember of my stay en 2012 - they chance of facility's and not inform the costumer-). - Conts: -The hotel never have the courtesy of inform the incoming guest, that the hotel is in remodelation. - The breakfast buffet isn´t the good enough, I got sick from the lack of control in food handling (dirty and uninfected eggs). - The sea food specialty restaurant isn't great, the dishes are boring and nothing extraordinary.

“Barcelo Gran Faro Los Cabos in the fall.”

No complaints, although the temperatures were in the 30s which is very hot for us. I would not travel in October to that area again. The hotel was not full so that was an advantage. Staff were wonderful.

“Good, but Not as Great as October 2018”

Our group of 3 traveled to the Barcelo Gran Faro Saturday, October 5 through Saturday October 12 for our 2nd visit to this resort. It was our second trip to the San Jose Del Cabo area however it was our 23rd trip to Mexico dating back to 1995. Room – The hotel has 3 buildings. The building on the left when facing the ocean is building 2 named the Luna building and faces northeast. The building on the right is building 3 and is named Estrella and the main building is building 1 and is named Sol. The Estrella and the Luna buildings each have about 150 rooms. We booked a Beach Front Junior Suite Premium Level room and specifically ask for room 2590 which is on the 5th floor, on the beach and overlooks the infinity pool. However, when we arrived, we learned that the Luna building was closed for annual updating. In 2018, the Estrella building was closed. To the hotel’s credit, they upgraded us to room 1609 in the Sol building. The room was the “Suite Embajador” (Ambassador Suite) and was a 2-room suite with a connecting room (room 1608). It had a bedroom with a love seat and an extended balcony, and the living room had 2 long couches and a love seat. It also had a bar and balcony. The room was definitely a nice room and a more expensive room than we had booked, however it was not beach front. We had a friend joining us and they were able to put her in the connecting room 1608, which made the room change of not being beachfront worthwhile. The 3 of us were able to spend time together very easily in the living room. Occupancy – The hotel was only about 30 – 40% occupied. This is the fourth time we have traveled to Mexico during this October time frame and each time the different hotels and different towns were in the 30 – 40% occupancy range. Mexican Independence Day is September 19 and after that their kids go back so school and our Thanksgiving travel season has not begun yet. Great time to visit Mexico. Construction – October Seems to Be Construction Month: 1) Fountain: The work on the fountain continued while we were there. I would expect it be completed by the end of October. 2) Snack Bar and Pool Bar: The second construction project was the closing of the snack bar and the land side of the pool bar between the main pool and activity pool for enlargement. The swim-up part of was still open, however the side that was accessed from the snack bar was closed. This project appears that is going to take some time and there was construction noise. They have created a small temporary snack bar which had hamburgers and hot dogs and a liquor bar located next to the steps entering the beach front buffet. 3) Las Olas Restaurant, located in front on the beach closed for the last 3 days of our stay. No reason given or expectation of when it would reopen. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all served in the Sol building Albatross buffet restaurant. Pools – We lounged mostly at the main pool. The south side chairs will give you the most shade. There were enough lounge chairs around that pool and we had no trouble finding our spots every day. I can imagine that if the hotel has full occupancy, that the lounge chairs would fill up very quickly. The other two pools are smaller and have fewer lounge chairs. The second pool is the volleyball ball pool and is the pool where the music, at a very reasonable volume, is played. Each of these pools are about 3½ feet deep and because of their shallowness they are very warm. The temperature of the water in the main pool was about 85 degrees and was like bathwater. The Infinity pool has about 15 lounge chairs around it and is 4½ deep. All the pools are about chest high and make for spending a lot of time in the water. The swim up bar is at the main pool and remained opened even though the other side of the bar was closed as part of the snack bar expansion. There are two hot tubs, one an adult only and one a family one. There was regular drink service around all the pool areas. Premium Level Guests Wear a Blue Band – Our room was a Premium level room. Premium level has its own check in area, a room with snacks and a bar where you make your own drinks with top shelf liquor. Wi-Fi throughout the hotel is included and the reception is very good. You can eat at the specialty restaurants as many times as you like. If you are not a Premium level guest, you must pay a daily rate for Wi-Fi, do not have access to top shelf liquor and can only eat at each of the specialty restaurants once. I do not use a travel agency, I book directly on the Barcelo.com website and comparing the pricing of premium vs non-premium rooms and considering paying a daily rate for Wi-Fi makes the premium cost preferable for us. Restaurants – We enjoyed the food in all the restaurants. It was some the best quality and variety of the All-Inclusive hotels we have stayed in. There was daily cook to order fresh fish, chicken & meat. None of the restaurants were ever close to half full. The wait staff, the cooks and hosts and hostesses were all good, always had a smile and engaged with us. We did not eat at any of the specialty restaurants. Building and Grounds – the building and grounds were spotless. There was always maintenance staff, mowing, cleaning, polishing, etc. Grade A for them. There were quite a few wild Iguanas on the property, and they were always interesting and fun to watch. Miscellaneous – 1) The rooms have rain head shower heads. 2) Instead of room keys, they place a water-proof chip card on the bracelets, and you hold that next to the door and it electronically opens. 3) We always bring our own colored washcloths in case there is a hotel shortage and would recommend you take some of your own as well. 4) The hotel is very wheelchair accessible. There are several elevators and ramps for ease of access. 5) the nightly entertainment are live singers that are brought in from the outside; the hotel does not employ a “singing/dancing troupe” with theme shows as many All-Inclusive’s do. Return Visit – we would return to this hotel in a heartbeat and are planning for a 3rd stay. Interestingly, we met several guests who have returned to the hotel for multiple visits. One woman from Vancouver has been there 30 times and a couple from Washington State have been there about 15 times and stay for about 3 weeks each visit. Room Tips – The room numbers in the Sol building all begin with the number 1; room numbers in the Luna building all begin with 2 and the room numbers in the Estrella building all begin with 3. If you are looking to stay in rooms directly on the beach in the Luna building ask for rooms that the room number end in 91, 92, 93, 95 or 95. There are about 13 rooms on each floor on each side of the hall. Even numbered rooms 2526, 2524, 2522 through 2502 are all inside rooms overlooking the pool. Odd numbered rooms 2525 through 2501 are outside rooms facing east and overlook the next hotel. The Estrella building would be roughly the same except that the room numbers would begin with 3. Sidebar #1: Customs and Immigration Forms - We learned upon our arrival that most airlines are no longer handing out the required Mexican forms on the planes that we have always filled out while in the air headed toward our Mexican destination and handed in going through customs and immigration. We understand those forms are all available online and can be filled out and printed before you depart otherwise when you enter the airport you will need stop at one of the many counters they now have and fill them out before you go through customs and immigration. I would recommend you do some research before you depart. Sidebar #2: San Jose Del Cabo International Airport – Our arrival going through customs and immigration was no problem. They were very quick and efficient. My wife needed a wheelchair and we were met by a wheelchair attendant in the airport. Be prepared when you leave the international terminal into the main terminal to go outside to for ground transportation. In the main terminal we were mobbed with hawkers of one type of another which we walked right through following our wheelchair attendant. We then exited the terminal and into the next group of taxis, limo’s, car rentals and others offering rides to the hotel. We made our way through that to a third area across the street where there was another group of ground transportation driver’s and is where you go if you have prearranged transport to the hotel. The airport is going through a major expansion and on our departure from San Jose Del Cabo our plane along with several other planes was parked out on the tarmac, not at the gates. The departing passengers had to walk down either ramps or stairs, load onto buses and be driven to their respective planes. When offloaded from the buses we had to climb the portable stairs to enter the plane.
