On top of its amazing and varied culture, and along with the warmth of its people, you will discover a country of contrasts, of alluring cities and incredible natural scenery. Travel to the centre of this bountiful peninsula to discover Castilian Spain. Unearth Northern Spain's magical locations that include amazing grasslands and green forests, nourished by the Atlantic sea.

Or its fresh and green Mediterranean coast and islands, where the sea breeze will enchant you. Without forgetting to mention the richness of Andalusia, famous inspiration for artists and writers such as Hemingway.

This is Spain, a country that enchants everyone who visits.

Description of the area

The Andalusian province of Huelva, borders Portugal and has more than 120 km of beach and rugged protected areas like the Aracena Mountains, the Picos de Aroche and the impressive Doñana National Park. It is a major ecological reserve in Europe.

One of the most famous festivals in Huelva is the Rocio pilgrimage, an event which evokes strong Andalusian feelings, bringing out the best of its people's character - devoutness, happiness and a festive spirit.

Isla Canela is situated on the apex formed by the Costa de la Luz, the Algarve and the Guadiana river. Exactly between the estuary of the Guadiana river and the Carreras river, forming part of the municipality of Ayamonte, it is one of the most beautiful areas in Andalusia in the south-east of Spain.

Its location provides visitors to Isla Canela access to areas and places of special interest for culture, sport, shopping and tourism.

Isla Canela is next to the marshlands of the Guadiana estuary, where countless species of birds habitually feed, rest and breed. Spoonbills, flamingos, terns, cormorants, seagulls, snipes, ospreys and many others will observe us during our holiday.

In the north-east of Isla Canela, we can find the unbeatable landscape of Salinas del Duque and the marshlands that surround it.

The area's natural beauty which is made up of a labyrinth of tunnels, branches, estuaries, canals and mud plains, make this place a must-see for nature lovers.

Its routes for horse-riding, cycling, walking or sailing in small vessels allow us to enjoy a unique sight.

For food lovers, we have to highlight our "broad beans with chocos" as the typical dish of Huelva, although this is not the only unforgettable savouring we have for your palate, since there are also other delicacies such as "coquinas" (clams), white shrimp of Huelva, "chirlas" (baby clams), fried fish and the abundance of fresh fish in general - thanks to our convenient proximity to the sea which provides the best ingredients for our cuisine.

Coming from the interior of our province and more specifically from the mountains, another of our key products that must be highlighted is Bellota ham, prepared by hand in the cool breeze of the small town of Jabugo and other places in our province. Our Iberian pork meats are also remarkable, as well as the excellent fruit and vegetables of our region, where the strawberries glow and are exported throughout Europe.

Ayamonte. An old city located in the estuary of the Guadiana river. A tourist city, rich in culture and with a privileged location opposite Portugal and an outstanding artistic heritage. Strolling through its neighbourhoods and streets under the beautiful ahining lights is a simple pleasure you should not miss out on.

Marina Isla Canela. Shopping centre with a varied range of restaurants, shops, supermarkets and various other services. Its large terraces and proximity to the port make it a more than pleasant place to shop, have lunch or dinner and enjoy a drink at any time of day.

The Algarve. Just a few minutes away, you will find the neighbouring country. The coastline of the extreme south of Portugal, with its golden sandy beaches, cliffs and picturesque villages. It is a very popular place due to its shopping options, gastronomy and landscapes.

Guadiana river. From the Portuguese town of Pomarao, it flows down to the Atlantic, joining the Portuguese and Spanish shores. On its way, it laps the neighbouring towns of Sanlúcar de Guadiana and Alcoutim, each with its own castle, which makes for a great scenic boat ride.

Throughout the year, various sporting events are held here, among which it is worth highlighting the Sailboat Ascent and Descent in August, and the international canoeing regatta in July.

Huelva and the Lugares Colombinos route. In the capital and surrounding areas you can visit the "Huelva Puerta del Atlántico" visitors centre, the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Huelva, Columbus' house, the Merced Cathedral, the Columbus monument, the Rábida Monastery and Muelle de las Carabelas (Carabelas Pier). As well as the Marismas del Odiel (Shores of Odiel) and Muelle del Tinto (Tinto Pier).

Doñana National Park and El Rocío village. The biggest biosphere nature reserve in Spain and home to the pilgrimage of one of the most famous festivals in Huelva.

Aracena Mountains and Picos de Aroche. To the far west of Sierra Morena, with dense forest, grasslands and rivers, where Iberian pig farming is prevalent and where the exquisite ham with its own denomination of Huelva Origin comes from.

Shopping in Huelva is associated with its traditions:
