Description of the area

Punta Cana makes paradise a reality. It is a place with a welcoming and fascinating atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a magnificent holiday in the Caribbean. Among the palm trees and coconut palms you can enjoy Bávaro Beach, a beautiful 3-km-long beach of fine white sand bathed by turquoise blue waters.

In addition to its idyllic beaches, Punta Cana is also home to a great variety of sports activities such as sailing, golf, fishing or scuba diving.


The Dominican cuisine is a reflection of Spanish and African influences that have influenced the social and cultural fabric of this country. The typical national dish is sancocho, a stew combining different meats, beans, bananas and potatoes. Other specialities include roast pork, all manner of fish and seafood and a wide variety of exquisite tropical fruits.


Saona Island. Part of a nature reserve in Parque Nacional del Este. There are caves and lagoons in the centre of the island which migratory birds use as a sanctuary.

Los Haitises National Park. A protected area with interesting geological formations, vegetation and wildlife. El Ángel cave can be found in the park, as well as Los Pájaros coves, the tropical jungle, the mangrove forests and a variety of caves with underground rivers.

El Limón Waterfall. An amazing 55-m high waterfall located in one of Samaná's jungles.

Chavon Heights. Known as the city of artists, here national and international art coexist. It has an art school, excellent restaurants, a pre-Hispanic art museum and an impressive amphitheatre.

Shrine of "Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia". Here you can find the image of Our Lady of Altagracia, the patron saint of the Dominican people.

Duarte peak. In the Dominican Republic you can visit the Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean, walk along the first ever streets, visit the first hospital, the first university and the first tarmac road in the New World.


In Plaza Dominicana, situated inside the Barceló hotel complex, there are several shops where you can find local hand-crafted products, from the typical "guayabera" (a light and comfortable shirt made of pure linen) to various clay figures, amber, larimar and coral jewellery, ceramics and mahogany furniture.
