    “First Club in Aruba”

    There have been upgrades to the physical conditions at the resort hotel. The atmosphere in the First Club area is not conducive to meeting fellow members as it used to be. No one seems to use the First Club facilities and there were no social activities there. The bar had a very limited selection to pick from and no free wi-fi or computers to use.

    “A lovely week in the sun”

    Bring a travel mug. Their cups for beach and pool are quite small. We like to use "Bubba mugs". Restaurants - make reservations the second you arrive. I went straight from checking in to the reservation desk and still had issues finding times. I understand it's because the timeshare people are able to email in their requests prior to their arrival. However, those people often don't actually show up, so for example we just dropped in to the Italian and they said come back at 8pm and we did and got a table. Nice meals in all the restaurants. Some we found a little salty, in particular at the Mexican. Buffet - busy but not overwhelming. It seemed only if you arrive at the breakfast buffet between 8:30 and 9:30am would you have to line up for a table. Most other times were instant or just a few minutes to clear a table. Food was good. I was happy to see broccoli one day. Roasts were good. Beach & Pool - definitely one of the nicest stretches of beach. The sand at the Riu was rougher than ours. Afternoons we were typically able to find a chair on the beach under a palapa or by the pool under trees, but never in the morning. The reservation of chairs with blankets or belongings is rampant, often we'd never see anyone use a reserved chair for an entire day which is just rude. Water both sea and pool was actually cool, which is nice and refreshing after being in the hot sun. Keep an eye out for those lizards... they like to pee on things on the ground. Room - clean, no mold, no musty smells. Comfortable bed and pillows. Service was excellent. The rest - Not much entertainment, they lip-synch in the nightly shows and lobby bar has live singers singing along to a karaoke-like machine. The best alcohol was available at the lobby bar... ask for things like Tanqueray by name. We appreciated that for SuperBowl they set up the ballroom with a big screen and buffet of foods like wings and pizza. Traveled first week of February.

    “Great value for Aruba all inclusive”

    We stayed as a family at the Barcelo in early February. We also stayed there when it was Occidental in 2009. The rooms were nice, views were great, and the beach was excellent. We reserved a king size bed ocean view room. When we got there they gave us a double bed ocean view and said they don’t have king size beds unless you are on the timeshare tower. That desk person may have been new because when we pushed the issue the other desk person said they said they do have king beds but none were available. We were able to change rooms from double bed ocean view to king size (with additional roll away bed) pool view by our 3rd night. We had pool and ocean view because we were high enough up (5th floor minimum). We loved that room. Almost everything about the hotel was wonderful. The best beach setup in the area. A great pool. We found the two bars were sufficient and we visited often. The pool bar was always staffed with enough people. Towards the middle of our week we noticed more wait staff on the beach getting drinks for guests. We didn’t use them, but they were there. The only thing that wasn’t excellent was the food. Please take this with a grain of salt. Food reviews are VERY subjective. We asked other guests while we were there what they thought of the food and they loved it. We thought the buffets were sufficient for what they were but the restaurants were not worth going to. We decided, all things considered, it was the best value to stay there again and go out for every meal except maybe the occasional buffet dinner if we had a long day. We would definitely stay here again.

    “L'Olio Italian Restaurant ”

    For an all inclusive restaurant, the service and food were amazing. Thanks to Armando for squeezing us in on short notice and making it a great night. From the moment we walked in to the dessert was served, every attention to detail was the best.

    We had another great week, we come every year the same week and once again had a Fabulous week. Alex at the beach bar is the best he goes above and beyond for you. Ronaldo the server was also very attentive.
