    “April Honeymoon”

We stayed here from April 8-14. First time in Aruba. Barcelo was suggested to us by family friends who have been coming to Aruba for over 20 years. Perhaps it was the time we booked the trip, but there wasn't much of a difference in price between a regular room and Royal Level room. The Royal Level is the way to go. Upon arrival, we had our own check-in with champagne. Once they realized we were on our honeymoon, they took our married name immediately so they could put it in the daily newsletter. Sandra, the manager of the Royal Level, was by far the best. They were training the young man who was working with us, so there was some information he didn't tell us upfront (such as the palapa rule at the beach, the rentals from De Palm Tours, access to a private bar on the beach with top shelf liquor, etc.). The Royal Level allows you to access private dining on the 9th floor for breakfast, lunch, and dinner without reservations. They will also make a reservation for you at the hotel's other restaurants which do require ample reservation, especially the Hibachi. It would have been nice if they told you this upon your arrival, so you can make the reservations in advance, but we were accommodated for every restaurant during our stay. We have never stayed at all inclusive, so to us, the nonstop eating and drinking was A LOT. But, it was really nice to have the options for dining. Since this was our first time on the island, we took it very slow. The great thing about the location of the hotel is that there are SO many restaurants on the "strip" (on both sides). You don't have to travel very far for more dining options, bars, shopping, even water sport activities. The rooms were VERY clean. They cleaned at least 3 times per day and restocked everything in the fridge-sodas, waters, and beer, which was a nice touch! The staff is very friendly and kind. The pool and poolside bar was awesome. Sure, they ran out of some liquor throughout the day, but never an issue for us. The bartenders did their best to accommodate everyone in a timely manner. The pool itself was so nice. Never an issue getting chairs there. The only thing that was disappointing was our incident with the palapa. On our last day, my husband woke up at 5 in the morning to put our towels on 2 chairs under a palapa. We were both up by 7 for our daily walk on the strip, got changed, and found a family with a newborn sitting on our towels that were laid out. I would say we got there by 9:30-10, the latest. The family unfortunately didn't speak English, so it was hard to communicate them. That and the fact that they had a newborn, it just wasn't worth fighting over, but the system is very unfair. One of the beach-side hotel workers tried to help us out by finding us another spot, but we ended up finding a perfectly fine spot under a palm tree. The system for the palapas needs to be be made clear. Supposedly, there is this unspoken rule that if you're not there within 2 hours of you putting your towels down, then it's not yours anymore. The other days we put our towels under a palapa, we never had this issue and I'd say we would only leave them there for 2 hours at most unattended. Overall, we had a very nice time. It was perfect for a first trip to Aruba.

    “High School Friends”

We had an excellent room at the Barceló with beautiful views. We did upgrade and Sandra our concierge was the best. She made sure all of our needs were met. Sandra made our reservations and changed them with a smile. The food was good and the beach was beautiful. Location of hotel is great. At night you can walk across the street to clubs and shopping. Would come back. Hotel staff was extremely nice.

“A great time at a great resort!”

Four lifelong friends have just returned from a wonderful five night stay at Barcelo Aruba. We had two ocean view rooms reserved in The Royal Club category level of the resort. Upon arrival we were directed to take the elevator to the ninth floor, where we were greeted by Sandra, our concierge. We had been in touch with Sandra, via email, for about two weeks prior to our arrival with requests and some concerns regarding negative reviews we had read on trip advisor. Sandra is a very honest, caring professional, who truly had a vested interest in our complete enjoyment of our vacation. She handled each and every request (large or small) with a smile. She is truly a woman of her word. She is excellent at her job and anticipates the needs of her clients. Our rooms were ready when we arrived, adjacent, as requested. Conveniently located on the ninth floor across from the Royal Lounge/Restaurant and adjacent to the concierge office. Our view was of the pool and ocean. Truly the "brochure view" room. Although we did not eat dinner at The Royal Club restaurant, we had several breakfasts and morning cappuccinos and lunches along with evening cocktails. Service and food and beverage were impeccable. We used room service for breakfast one morning and afternoon coffee a few times. Except for one coffee request, everything was delivered in a timely manner. We had lunch at both buffets, preferring the indoor, larger, Palm Buffet. The Beach Club was nice and offered a pretty view, but we preferred the more extensive Palm Buffet. Food was always hot and delicious with a nice variety, beverage service was quick and attentive at both venues. We had dinner at the Seafood restaurant (our least favorite, nice ambiance, but the steak was over cooked and the shrimp were small and tough, service was good), the Italian restaurant (two times, and both visits our meals and service were outstanding and delicious), The Hibachi table was fun, entertaining and the meal was delicious. Seasoned perfectly. The chef was both skilled and comical. One of our favorite dining moments was our private dinner on the beach with our private waiter Reynaldo. The sunset was breathtaking, our table set on the sand with beautiful dishes and flowers was just so lovely. The service was outstanding, our four course surf and turf dinner was delicious served with champagne and a special dessert. The resort has a photographer who captured our memories of celebrating and toasting our many years of friendship together. Thank you again Sandra for your thoughtfulness in arranging this for us. Everyday was spent on the beach under a palapa, not far from the Royal Beach Bar. We never relied on beach service due to the close proximity of the bar to our lounge chairs. There were many people using palapas that were unoccupied with name signs on them, but we never saw anyone asked to move. From what we heard, the timeshare club attendance was not at capacity that week, so some guests were allowed to use the palapas normally assigned to the time share guests that were not in attendance this week. Many were unoccupied each day. Although several reviewers complain about people reserving by leaving towels down early in the morning, I witnessed several other resorts requiring queuing in line early in the morning in the hope of getting a palapa. Seems to me, either way, you needed a designated chair saver to retain a chair poolside or in the shade, no matter what resort you stayed out. We happened to be one group of several guests who had good luck and an attentive concierge. I have come to realize after staying at many all inclusive resorts, it's always smart to ask for what you'd like. The worst thing you can be told is no, we did not use the pool loungers or Bali beds since we had a beach palapa. We swam in the pool and used the hot tubs a few times in the late afternoon. We enjoyed the beach and the bar there which serves top shelf liquor and beer and wine. We brought floats from home which the sports hut next door graciously inflated for us, they were so very nice. We tipped them as well as bar tenders and servers in the restaurants. All were very appreciative and never appeared to be expecting a tip. Tony and Carlos are amazing bartenders on the beach and would often bring cushions out for out chairs. The hotel and beach and pool area are beautiful and well kept. The casino was surprisingly larger than expected. The music in the lobby was fun and we enjoyed dancing and watching others dance. Shopping was convenient across the street near the bars and restaurants. We did shop, but did not go in any clubs or restaurants. Our five night stay was amazing and we can't thank Sandra enough for telling us not to believe all the negative reviews but to come and enjoy and experience all the wonderful aspects this resort has to offer, We totally agree! I would suggest, strongly, reserving the Royal Club Level. The rooms, views, service, private lounge and restaurant and top shelf liquor, as well as, personal access to an amazing concierge team, are well worth the extra monetary investment for a wonderful, memorable vacation.

“Spring Break vacation with a family of 10 adults”

The hotel was clean, we had a 2 couples with room issues but the hotel went above what was expected on the accommodations. It is a widely used hotel and you need to make Reservations for dinner ahead of time. Breakfast, lunch, and pool side grill was good. Buffet style meals. It is a Dutch country so expect different style of food. Drinks never ran out, champagne and liquors were great. The iguanas were awesome. They new when they were getting fed!
