    “Good value clean resort with horrible customer service”

    We spent 4 nights at the premium level family junior suites. -The rooms in the pictures are much bigger than they actually are. -The quality of the food was pretty good and eating at the different restaurants was a good change from the buffe.(I would recomment Kyoto and Steak house). The food at the golf course restaraunt was also pretty good. -Childrens water park was great as it was not crowded The customer service is horrible. Took them 2 days to bring us some beach towels. Most days the room was not cleaned till after 5PM and the cleaning crew were just not motivated to work. They were discouraging us from having the room cleaned. The Casino is way below par and the security staff are rude and dont speak a lick of english. Overall i would not go back to this resort. While it offered a great value compared to others on (Costco travel) we would try another resort.

    “NIce value but some issues, particularly wiht the casino”

    Pros: Great location, terrific beach, and excellent bartenders that seem to care about customer service Cons: Many staff are English-challenged, and communication is sometimes a problem; food and food options are plentiful, but quality is average. Do not expect gourmet dining. Rooms are a bit tired, and expect to hear every noise above quiet conversation through the walls and doors. I was VERY disappointed with the casino's approach to improving it's profit margins. When I cashed out the first time, I was owed $167.50. The cashier spread $167 in front of me, expecting me to take it and walk away. I didn't care too much about the missing $.50, and let it go. The second time, I gave them chips at slot receipts for $80.75. Same thing happened: they offered me $80, expecting to keep the $.75. This time, I asked about my $75 and why they weren't paying me what thy owed me. The two cashiers looked at each other, siad some words in Spanish, and then gave me the $.75. They were unpleasant throughout the process, acting like they were being inconvenienced and that they were doing me a favor. The third and final time I came back, again with an amoutn due that included an amount less than $1, they shorted me and I had to ask for it. Again, dirty looks prevailed. I never went back. These events happened over two days with different cashier staff working, so it is clear to me that the cashiers are instructed to attempt to extract this small amount of money from their guests. While it's only a small amount, I speaks to the integrity of the casino. It they are blatantly attempting to steal small amounts, who's to say what else might be going on? I took my business to the Hard Rock..

    “Excellent”

    This property is huge, we used their train to go around and visit, but were very pleased that the beach was within walking range. The room was comfortable and spacious. Very good mattress. What I didn't like is that the toilet is separated only by a frosted glass door that didn't reach the ceiling. The lack of privacy made it uncomfortable for me because any sound could be heard in the rest of the room. I would prefer a full size door that gives more privacy. We had a view to the garden, and far, we could see a little of the beach. We tried several restaurants and loved the food, I don't recall the names, but we went to the Italian, Mexican, Steakhouse and the Greek restaurants. When we went to the buffet I encountered some difficulty because being vegetarian, I could not find a description of what was in the food. For instance, "stuffed peppers" but it did not say stuffed with what. There was also a "Chick Pea salad" , but when I tried it had some kind of meat. Sometimes the servers were just servers and didn't know when I asked, so they had to go in the back to ask and it would take some time. The beach was very nice, warm water, and calm, no waves, but had areas with a lot of sea weed in the bottom. You had to select where to walk. I went to the spa once to have a pedicure. Not impressed with the service compared to the US. I was very concerned about the instruments and equipment, unsure if they were sterilized. The attendant didn't wear gloves.

    “Awesome Resort”

    This resort is Beautiful! It is huge with 11 restaurants. The rooms are large and at the premium level the balconies have a jacuzzi. The pools are large with built-in jacuzzis and fountains. We ate in 3 of the specialty restaurants; the Steak house, the seafood restaurant and the French restaurant. All were excellent. The beef here was the best we have ever had in the islands. The only picky items are the tv selections were poor and inconsistent, at least the english stations, and the shower, where the shampoo leaked out and was always empty. The golf course is adequate, but don't be fooled by the "free" greens fees, the cart fee is $50 per person.

    “Excellent Family Resort”

    I'm Dominican and I've been to Barceló countless times since I was little, and I was very glad to see that Barceló keeps getting better over the years. The staff at reception was very nice and helpful. Check-in was quick and we got our room on time. The staff suggested we made reservations for the à la carte restaurants, so we took a look at the menus and picked the restaurants straight away. Rooms and facilities: We got a family suite and we loved it. We had a partial view of the ocean and a partial view of the garden. We had 2 bathrooms, 2 double beds on one side and 1 king size bed on the other, a jacuzzi and a mini bar with beer, champagne and rum. The beds and pillows were comfy, the room temperature was easily manageable and overall a good comfy room that was cleaned daily. Overall, the facilities at this hotel look very clean and new and we loved that. Pools and beach: We were 3 adults and 2 children. We loved the fact that there is a little bit of everything for everyone. The kids loved the kid's pool over at the Family Deluxe section and the pool with the Pirate ship. The latter was very nice and chill and it's perfect if you don't want to be at the main pool which is normally more crowded since that's where all the fun activities are happening (If you're not Premium you have to pay to enter this section). The beach is, of course, very beautiful and clean. It's a relatively shallow beach so it won't be an issue if you or your kids can't swim . There are watersports and lots of chairs! so if you don't see empty chairs at first sight just walk a little towards the left (as if you were going to the Adults only area) and i'm sure you won't have a problem finding beach chairs. Food and drinks: I honestly wasn't expecting a lot food-wise. There is room for improvement in this area, but it did surprise me positively. The buffets looked good overall, the decorations and the presentation of the food was good. Flavor was good. The variety was ok, but it has room for improvement. During breakfast for example, there should be more choices for those that are lactose intolerant, they only had whole milk or chocolate milk (this applies to the coffee bar as well). At lunch time they served pretty much the same menu everyday, which became tiring after 4 days. We normally had dinner at the á la carte restaurants. We definitely recommend the French restaurant, both service and food were excellent. The Spanish one was also very good, we recommend it. The Steak House was good, but not the best. Overall, it was good, no one got food poisoning and ingredients looked fresh. Premium drinks are available for Premium level guests, so if they're not displaying a particular drink or brand, just request it and they'll offer it to you or similars, we had no issues there. Service: Service was okay, not exceptional. There is room for improvement for service at the buffets, but overall it was okay.You can tip if you want to, not mandatory, but recommended at the buffets if you're gonna go to the same one for the whole stay. Activities: You won't get bored. There are plenty of activities going on during the afternoon at the pool and at the beach. There is a bowling alley and a games center. There is a park for small children. At nighttime, you can go to the show (they weren't the best but at least you get entertained), there's a casino, the lobby bar and the disco which plays varied music, so no complaints there. Conclusion: I would go back if it was a family vacation. If I had to go back JUST with my partner, I'd probably choose another resort with a more personalized service and with a more varied buffet service. But overall, this was a very good for the whole family.
