    “Simple House keeping standards not met”

    5 days in to a 2 week holiday and not impressed with simple hotel standards that can not be met. 3 days before we got our correct room, but after reading other reviews I guess we are lucky to have a room! Bought the Premium package,, not worth it when you see other guests getting the same features except the private lounge. In the lounge you make your own drinks and hope they have ice, water or glasses. Everyday we have to ask for our pool towels, shampoo, shower caps etc... The Premium Lounge staff take notes of what is missing but nothing gets done. Still waiting for out Champage we should have had on arrival.

    “Great Resort for the money.”

    My husband and I stayed here for a quick get-a-way. We stayed 4 nights over Valentines Day. Overall we really liked staying here. We upgraded to the premium status, oceanfront room. Our room was very nice. Big, clean, nice balcony. Our mini bar was restocked everyday. Our free bottle of tequila was in our room when we got there. Clean towels, including pool towels were exchanged everyday. Big bathroom with huge shower and there was a nice big tub, we didn't use it. Definitely worth the upgrade! Premium alcohol is at the top of my list of must haves, can't handle the cheap stuff anymore. I would have upgraded to "beachfront" had I known the rooms there are even better. We had a great view of the ocean and pools, though pretty far back from the ocean. Check-in at the premium lounge took awhile but I like the personal attention they give you there. You can make dinner reservations for your entire stay at checkin. They brought us drinks while we waited. Premium lounge is stocked with good liquor but not enough mixers. It would be nice to have bloody mary mix to go with the good vodkas. We would have bought our own if we were staying longer. Service was very good everywhere. No matter if you were on the beach, poolside or sitting in the lounge area, there was always someone ready to bring you a drink. Pools are nice, clean and warm. Walking the beach everyday was nice even though you can't swim in it. We watched the sunrise one morning, it was beautiful.. Food was good. My husband and I are not fans of buffets but the one here was actually pretty good. We ate at Las Olas for breakfast. Omelets were the best option. We ate at the Albatross Buffet for dinner twice. Great selection. We ate at the La Gondola (Italian) our second night there. Not impressed. Service was great but food was just alright. We ate at Las Olas for Valentines dinner. They serve seafood on certain nights. The salmon was amazing! But service was not good. Restaurant was 1/4 full and our waiter never came back to refill our water glasses or ask if we wanted dessert. Finally after about 20 minutes we left and went to buffet for dessert. We had reservations at the Mexican restaurant for the last night but didn't go. We decided to eat at the buffet again. The La Isla Snack Bar (pool area) was a nice surprise. They had the best quacamole!! It was a nice place to grab a snack while poolside. Drinks were very good there also. We don't like sushi so we didn't try that restaurant. Entertainment is not the greatest. The first night there was a band set up on the beach. They were very good. The biggest waste (in our opinion) is the Sky Bar. The views are amazing, yes. We went up there our first night. It was so dark in there that it was kind of creepy. There were only 2 other couples there. Bartenders acted like it was a big inconvenience to make us margaritas. It was only 8:00. They were so bad, we didn't drink them. When you sit at a table by the window, you can't even see the view. You have to stand up to see it. Never went back. We did the "City tour" excursion through Esperanza's Tours. It was fun and interesting. When we booked it, we were told that we would have time to walk around Los Cabos and that we could set up a time to come back with the driver. That wasn't true. We had to stay with our driver and the other 8 people. Even though we didn't get the package we thought we both really enjoyed it. We went to downtown area of San Jose, what a beautiful little town. We did the water taxi around the Arch, loved that! We ate at El Coral, the oldest restaurant in Cabo. I had the BEST fajitas I have ever had in my life! Service was top notch, prices were very reasonable and the margaritas were perfect. Highly recommend! Our driver, Tony, was amazing as well. He sat with us at lunch and it was so interesting and humbling to talk with him about his family and his life there. We would definitely come back to this resort. My daughter and I stayed at the Riu Santa Fe in Cabo and I think the Barcelo was much better. Better service, better food, better drinks. Santa Fe had no poolside service, horrible food and the drinks were so bad, we ended up drinking water all week. The only thing better at the Santa Fe was the view. The view at Barcelo is nice though. This resort is smaller than most but that's what we like. We love Cabo!!

    “Great Vacation at the Barcelo”

    We got the Premium package and glad we did. Had a well stocked mini fridge everyday and quick check in. Nice clean room and love love the shower and had lots of body wash and shampoos daily even though we didn't need it as we always bring our own they were restocked. Thought it was a great idea to have housekeeping come in the evening with fresh towels since everyone seemed to shower after a day around the pool. Our room was spacious and very clean. Great entertainment each evening and we went on Thursday being into San Jose for the art and music Festivel, well worth the 20 min walk or quick $1 bus ride. The 4 pools were clean and the guys at the pool bar were awesome. Loved the hot tub which seems to be popular when the temps cooled down. Nice variety of food at the buffets. Super friendly staff, shout out to Karen from the restaurant who gave us lessons in Spanish, she is a sweetheart. Also to Oz and Danny for the great music entertainment by the pool and their band that played some great rock music. To Jorge who always had a big smile and hello and so helpful with organizing our transportation and such. And to Jared who spends days on the phone to the airport trying to find my husbands luggage that was missing from Air Canada for 5 days. Jared a big thank you for all you did for us. We had a great relaxing vacation and would recommend this resort to our friends. We will be back.

    “Quick get away from rainy California.”

    Last min decision to go to Cabo to get away from all the rain in Northern California during Feb. Barcelo Grand was somewhat mediocre compared to some of the resorts we’ve been to in Mexico. The place looked like it needs some refurbishment, upkeep. We had a beachfront junior suite on the fifth floor overlooking the Sea of Cortez, beautiful view. Room was spacious and very clean. The dinning was somewhat sub par, again compared to other all-inclusive resorts in Mexico that we have been to. The selection of “A la Carte Dinning” restaurants was also limited to “La Gondola” - Italian, “Las Jicamas” - Mexican. The location is ideal, walking distance to old town San Jose and approximately 30 min from the airport.

    “DID NOT honor our reservation”

    Tried to check in on Friday Feb 10 and they would not honor our reservation we had since May 25th 2016. They said because it was for only one night (cruising on Saturday) they needed the room for people that were staying four days. They accepted our reservation online. They confirmed our reservation. Really? But the kicker is THEY CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD for the night. They graciously drove us to the the Holiday Inn. I did not come to Mexico to stay at the Holiday Inn. Holiday Inn does not charge the same rate as a night at the Barcelo. Funny thing is, we met a couple (on our cruise) that the same thing happened to them. Their lie to them was that their room had plumbing problems. Another couple at the Holiday Inn said a similar thing happened to them. Barcelo called them three days before they were suppose to arrive. Said they needed their room for a conference. At least, they stayed at the Dreams hotel. The Holiday Inn staff was very nice, and the place was clean. It did not have the same facilities as the Barcelo. Take a chance it won't happen to you. Good Luck
