    “Beautiful Resort "s"”

My wife and I thought we would throw in the towel on the other islands this year and check out Mexico for our first time. After much research, searching for the best beaches in the Maya Riviera, we came across this resort. The property"s" are beautiful. Everything on the grounds is well maintained. There was never a shortage of chairs on the beach or around the pool. The buffets were good, with a few hits and misses. We went for dinner every night between 6:30 and 8 and never had any troubles with line ups for food. We were given 4 a la cartes for the week and selected the following. Mexican-Great atmosphere and excellent service and food. Seafood- Very rushed, lobster was great. Steak House- My rib steak was no lie 1cm thick. Tasted great, but I need my meat! Great salad bar to make up for it. Spanish- Amazing! The beaches were absolutely beautiful. We chose this resort as we love to snorkel. We were able to go off the pier a few days, but there was a bit of a chop on the water for 5 of our 7 days. All seaweed was raked and collected by 6 a.m. If you like to walk for miles, this beach is for you. Pools were very clean, you could eat off the deck. Bar service was great, longest wait was maybe 3-4 minutes for a drink. They do offer beer taps for the guests to use instead of waiting in line while Joe-Blow orders 6 Mojitos for the whole family. My only complaint was the cleanliness of the room. I have given the resort a review of 5 stars because I only use the room for sleep. We had cleaners in 3 times. We had blood stains on the bathroom walls from the previous occupants. The tub was clogged and the drain would back up into the tub. I pulled it apart and pulled out a razor cover that had been there for some time. If it wasn't the bedding, top of toilet seat, or the general floor area, it wasn't getting cleaned. Fridges were always stocked with cold drinks and snacks and coffee was replaced if needed. I would recommend to all. We left our 3 kids at home, and in some ways regret it as there was so much for them to do. We also took part in the deep sea fishing, cenote tours and snorkeling with turtles. Definitely a trip to remember.

    “Valentines Vacation Review”

Overall, the Barcelo Maia Caribe is a perfectly adequate resort. We arrived on Monday and immediately purchased the non-room premium upgrade, which afforded us access to the 'Premium Lounge,' unlimited dinner reservations, concierge service, computer lab, dedicated snack bar, and two wifi accounts for our entire stay. During check in we were ushered into the premium lounge where the representative went into detail about all of the associated perks. We took this opportunity to make dinner reservations for our entire stay. We'd met folks who hadn't done this and were unable to secure reservations for the dinner vouchers they had. Dinner Reservations Unfortunately, most of the dinner times offered were for very late in the evening (930pm & 10pm). We would soon learn that by simply calling the restaurant a few hours in advance of our reservation time we could request an earlier dinner time and the request was ALWAYS accommodated. The restaurants we visited for dinner were typically empty, which doesn't make sense given the dinner time assigned. Not sure why this is, but since we had reservations they were able to accommodate us at an earlier time. Buffets The buffets on the resort, which we typically went for breakfast and lunch, were no more than typical, nothing extraordinary or exemplary; however, the variety was notable. We also went to Captain Morgan's occasionally (buffet on the beach) which was also adequate. Drinks were plentiful and WEAK! Every store on the resort sold travel mugs that were immensely popular with folks who didn't want to have to continuously refill their drinks and the mugs were accepted at all bars. We opted not to purchase the mugs. Rooms Our ('Superior') room was clean, tidy and comfortable; we had no complaints and no need to upgrade. A room upgrade was offered at check in for a whopping $250 a night! Beach and Pools The beach and pools were absolutely breathtaking. We were always able to find chairs. It seems as though folks were late risers and the beach and pools did not start to really fill up until nearly noon. There are vendors on the beach selling hats, cigars, jewelry and other 'recreational' offerings (#wink). Fitness and Spa The gym on the resort was absolutely spectacular. We had massages at the spa, our masseuses Rosario and Yvonne were magnificent. We also took the Zumba (Javier) and Yoga (Nico) classes regularly, which were magnificent! There was also a noon water aerobics class, which was offered Jt we never took advantage of but it looked super fun! Overall Service Before arriving we'd heard that the overall service at the resort was lacking, we did not have any issues with the service. I'm a native Spanish speaker, this may have been a factor. Shopping The resort has numerous shops and a shopping mall on site. There's absolutely no need to leave the resort for anything other than excursions. We explored nearly every shop on the resort and found that the artisanal shops were significantly less expensive than the traditional, enclosed and air conditioned shops AND the artisanal stores were amenable to haggling and negotiating! (Ex. shot glasses 10 for $10; magnets 10 for $10, etc.) Excursions At the airport we were invited to a quasi-time share presentation (Secrets resort) and received a massive discount on an all inclusive tour to Chichin Itza! We paid $40 for two of us (the cost for this tour varies from $120-$280, based on our prior research and quotes received on site). My husband typically hates time share presentations but was amenable to it due to the massive savings. After a number of time share presentations (on other trips) we've learned to be transparent and adamant about our time constraints and non-interest. Casino The casino on site is a racquet! DO NOT waste your time or money! Although we received a $20 voucher for every $20 spent the restrictions are baffling. At one point I was up by thousands of pesos and when I went to ask how much cash I'd receive yo check out, I was informed that the casino recaptures their $20 and imposes a tax leaving me with the $20 I used as a match for the voucher. Sports Bar The sports bar is the only place that's open 24hrs a day. They have a decent variety of food offerings all day for the occasional snack. Pool and bowling had charges attached and mini golf, which we played was free until 7pm in the evening. This is the only place where we were able to get coffee at any time. There's also a separate auditorium for catching sports games. The only downfall is the musty smell upon arrival, which you soon get accustomed to but always hits you upon entering. Restaurant Reviews La Trattoria - 1/5 Horrible and tasteless Italian food. Capri - 2/5 Minimally acceptable Italian food, horrible desserts. Marenostrum (Seafood) - 3/5 Phenomenal dinner options, horrible appetizers, soups and desserts La Fuente (Spanish) - 4/5 Sensational dinner options, soups and desserts; adequate appetizers Santa Fe (Steakhouse) - 4/5 Steaks were out of this world; appetizers and desserts were mediocre Tokyo (Hibachi) - 5/5 Appetizers, entres and dessert were spectacular; wouldn't have given a 5/5 if it weren't warranted but this restaurant was amazing. Yes, the food got increasingly better throughout our stay AND the portions were ALWAYS spot on; we never left feeling bloated, overly stuffed or desiring more! Every restaurant also offered a salad bar, with typical and acceptable offerings. One Last Thing The room keys are incredibly sensitive. They cannot sit near phones, wallets, apple watches, or anything technological. Sun block can also deprogram the key card. We probably went to the front desk for a new key card daily, even after taken their recommendations.

    “Best Beach in the area.”

This resort shares its huge, private, horseshoe shaped beach with it's 4 other Barcelo resorts. I'd suggest its one of the best on the Rivera Maya coast. The snorkeling just off shore and around their private pier was terrific. Huge schools of fish, sea turtles and other sea life. Of the 5 Resorts in this private location, you can hop between them for meals, pools, and activities. The Caribe has a nice kids pool and splash park area. There is a mini golf coarse in the lush jungle grounds (wear bug spray). The all-inclusive food was decent, but nothing to brag about. The restaurants, with reservation, were really good. The rooms were a bit dated but clean. Would stay again for the beautiful beach and water amenities alone.
