    “Disappointed”

    We stayed for two nights last June, after staying at the Barcelo Montecastillo outside of Jerez for 3 nights.I was attending a Rota High School class reunion, and was excited to stay on the outskirts of Rota for a few days. We stay at the Barcelo Maya Palace in Mexico every year, and I was expecting the quality and ambiance to be similar. I decided to reserve a suite, but did not see anything on the web site stating that all of the suites are up a very steep set of steps. After check in,we walked down the hall, found our room number, opened the door, expecting to walk into a wonderful room, but instead were staring at a stairwell ascending up almost 90 degrees. They do not have bellmen, and we were not about to drag our suitcase up these steps, so I left my husband in the dismal looking hallway, and went back to the front desk. After explaining our situation, (60 year olds, both with back issues) I sat in a chair in the lobby and waited, hoping there was another room available. Finally they summoned me, and gave me a new room number. Grateful, I went up to retrieve my husband and our suitcases, and walked to our "new" room. It was nice, but nothing special. It was tired looking, and the AC did not keep the room cool.We had to call maintenance to come "look at it".The furniture in the lobby has been reupholstered-too bad they didn't do the same in the rooms. We had a nice view, and the bathroom was a good size, however It is absolutely ridiculous for Barcelo to charge guests extra for a room safe! The parking up front is awkward, and there is a daily parking fee. The lobby is large and there are plenty of seats. They have a small gift shop, lobby bar, and "restaurant". We went down and met our friends, after unpacking, for lunch and a cocktail. They only had one bar tender, who was also the only waiter. It took forever to get served, no fault of this over stretched employee.How can they only have one person working, besides a man who "bussed the tables"? The main pool area was full of loud happy kids, so we went to the other pool. It did not have a "tiki bar" like the other pool, no music, and was very boring. This hotel is not close to the beach, so there are no sea breezes to cool down the levante winds or just hot temperatures in the summer. The one thing I was impressed with was the quality of the breakfast buffet. We ate dinner off property, so I don't know anything about the dinners. Overall this hotel was a disappointment. The lay out is awkward- you have to walk very long distances through boring hallways to get to rooms. They don't have bellmen. The front desk and restaurant/bar were under staffed, However, the employees were extremely nice and I appreciated that, as well as their positive attitudes. The nightly entertainment by the pool looked great, but did not start until 10 PM. Usually I am sad to leave a wonderful hotel, but was anxious to move on to Seville after our two night stay here. It's the Barcelo company that needs to make necessary changes, and the nice employees have nothing to do with my negative comments.

    “Golf trip”

    16 of us stayed at this hotel/golf resort and found it a nice place to stay and play golf,club house is approximately a 10 minute walk but as like the courses it is flat,food was good with a fair selection and rooms were sufficient,reception staff were great whilst bar staff could do with help in the evening as it got busy and they got overrun with the amount of guests trying to order drinks,in a whole I wor stay again atvthis hotel.

    “Excellent”

    Be more aware of fix broken things in rooms and corridors like elevator and carpenders. Comfortable staff with a lot of tolerance was my experience of my stay. I will gladly recommend of staying at Hotel Barceló

    “Two nights in Costa Bellena”

    This a large hotel property on a golf course and a 5 minute walk to a beautiful beach. The rooms are large but the hotel is a little tired. We stayed here because the price was good with off-season rates and it included breakfast. There was free parking parking on the street so that was handy. The breakfast buffet was large but the room was noisy and busy. Best to get to the breakfast early before things get picked over. There are two pools and a spa. It was a bit cool so we did not use the pool but we did go for a long walk on the beach which was the most memorable part of the stay. You can rent bikes and the beach sand is very flat and hard so you could ride the bikes on the beach or on the miles of bike paths. If you are staying here and want to see the local sites or visit Cadiz or Rota - you need a car. There is not much other than golfing and walking to do around the resort.

    “Not impressed ”

    Had a three day golf holiday with friends here. Firstly, the hotel. The rooms were excellent and comfortable. The restaurant was one of the worst hotel restaurants I have used. It was a “buffet style” canteen. It was like a cattle market and the food was very, very poor school dinner food. The bar was understaffed and the staff were exceptionally rude. Now the Golf Club. Very average to poor condition course that has not been maintained well. For the numbers of golfers using the course, to only have 35 buggies is ridiculous. Overall a very poor experience
