    “Special celebrations!!”

    We arrived at the hotel after a long journey to be greeted with a warm welcome and a cold glass of Cava by our lovely receptionist Marialuisa and were swiftly booked in and escorted to our room. We were delighted to be allocated the room we requested which was large and very well appointed. The bed was enormous - I couldn't find my husband for 14 nights! The bathroom was well stocked with toiletries (replenished regularly) and the bath/hand towels were changed as and when required. As returning guests, we were delighted to be greeted with a bottle of Cava and chocolates which we enjoyed on our terrace whilst waiting for our luggage to be delivered! Aaaahhh - heaven. The next morning we went to breakfast, wearing out shorts and flip flops and were delighted to find that the food selection was as good as we remembered. There was waiter/waitress service for tea and coffee and then a great choice from the buffet ie, breads, cereals, cakes, cheeses, hams, fresh fruits, yoghurts and, of course, the full English with eggs, omelettes and crepes cooked to order - wow. And did I mention Cava!! It was a little breezy whilst at breakfast as the restaurant consists of glass walls which open in the summer, surrounded by plastic awnings and the weather was turning unseasonably cold, windy. Undaunted, we ventured out into the grounds of the hotel intending to walk down to the lighthouse which is a short walk along the footpath skirting the nature reserve. The heavens opened before we even left the hotel grounds and we turned back to the on-site café. As this unseasonal weather continued the hotel staff stepped up a gear, closing the Atlantico bar around the pool and opening up the Green Bar which was normally only open in the evenings, which was much appreciated by the guests. There was entertainment on a couple of evening with a young lady singer and her male accompanist singing blues and country. We also ate in the Al-A-Carte twice to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary and my Birthday, where there was a different menu every night of the week. More Cava - Yum!! In fact the Cava kept turning up! The staff were amazing - the waiting staff, especially the waitress who always remembered that I needed two teabags in my teapot and liked coffee after my evening meal, the chefs who specially fetched lemon for my Crepes, the barmen in both the Atlantico and the bar Verde who remembered my husbands favourite tipple, the wonderful cleaning staff and room service who came daily to replenish everything you might need and plied me with more chocolate - phew!! Now to the negatives - the weather caused tremendous headaches for the hardworking hotel staff, like the enormous, ongoing leak from the overhead air-conditioning unit in the Atlantico Restaurant, which was solved by buckets and towels on the floor mostly throughout our 14 day holiday. The outside location of the restaurant does not take into account cold, wet weather, making it uncomfortable and, in the case of outside, very dangerous. Several evenings there was no lighting to illuminate the boardwalk or steps to/from the restaurant, the tiles in front of the Atlantico bar were extremely slippery in the rain and the hash markings on the wooden steps were almost invisible at night making them almost impossible to spot. Since last year we were pleased to see that a handrail has been fitted down the middle of the stone steps which was a much needed improvement. All that said, we enjoyed the holiday despite the unseasonably wet weather we enjoyed being looked after by all the fantastic staff and hope to return next year (weather permitting)!

    “February 2018”

    Our stay here has been okay,but not great. The weather has been very disappointing which is completely out of the resort’s control, however, the rooms are not heated. We used a pool towel as a draft blocker under the door. Pool and out door facilities etc. nice. Royal Level pools were not all functioning. Two were completely unusable because of repairs. Restaurants have been only okay. Royal Level Atalntica is quite small, buffet style, with good staff. Food was not piping hot at hot buffet, nor cold at salad buffet. Lots of choice though. A la Carte restaurant we enjoyed more and would have eaten there more if we had discovered it sooner. Did not eat at the large buffet as the bright lights and seating appearance was too much like an institutional cafe. For half board, finding a decent mid-day snack was not easy. We found picking up a few things at the street level shopping served us better. Room with ocean view comfortable; semi private balcony large enough to sit outside sheltered from the weather. King size bed uncomfortable for me, my husband “loved it”. Mattress has a waterproof mattress cover which was very unpleasant. Bedding did not appear to be changed daily; towels were. Daily cleaning satisfactory. Enjoyed a lovely hot stone massage at the Spa, although appointment availability was very limited. Enjoyed walking the beach front - lots of chairs for rent. Regret not renting a car to tour the island. Jandia feels quite isolated.

    “Second visit”

    Just returned from the hotel after a week. Decided to visit again after last years trip and knowing Occidental had taken over. The food in both Atlantico and the A La Carte restaurant were better this year and food was much warmer. The hotel itself is looking tired and we could not see that any improvements to the rooms or interior had been made since our last visit, which was disappointing. The spa has now opened and is ok - nothing special. We experienced a particularly bad week for weather and although this is not the hotels fault, they are really not geared towards this. The Atlantico Bar was closed due to rain, and Bar Verde (the other bar Royal guests can use) remained closed until 6.30 on the day it rained - all day!! This meant that the only bar we could use was the main hotel bar - which in the bad weather was packed and unfortunately like a wind tunnel - people were actually sat in thick bubble coats! The hotel also leaks everywhere in the rain! The hotel does not have heating in the rooms and we had to ask for additional blankets - which were provided but the rooms were cold! Absolutely nothing to do in hotel in bad weather and no nice areas to sit for Royal Level guests in bad weather.The two main Royal level pools were also being refurbished while we were there and this was not mentioned in any correspondence prior to our trip. Staff were fantastic as last year. Not sure we will return here again - which is a shame because it has great potential.

    “Pleasant hotel by sea but cold.”

    Hotel was OK but had no heating so was cold on this January week. Water in the hot tubs and heated pools would have helped. Not much space in Royal Level - small sports bar, not enough room in restaurants. Nice sea view.

    “Good hotrl shame about the weather”

    The hotel was just not geared up for the weather, rooms and restaurants were cold with nothing much to do, but food and service in the Buffet was very good and the service in the cocktail bar was excellent
