    “Quiet relaxing hotel”

We have just returned after a one week stay – and delighted to say we would definitely recommend this hotel. Most definitely in Spain at this hotel – Its about an hour and 15 minutes transfer from Faro airport. Spotlessly clean everywhere - in bedrooms, restaurant and also the pool area - no flies wasps or insects around anywhere! I would estimate at least 90% of staff and visitors are Spanish – we don’t speak any Spanish at all yet this was not an issue. Some staff did speak English in particular at reception and also a lovely lady Adrianna in the restaurant who seemed to be there for every meal! The food is excellent – we went all inclusive and there was enough variety to keep us happy. Bottled water freely available on all inclusive as was the most delicious coffee! It’s about a 10 minute walk to the beach however the walk is partly paved and partly a board walk (railway sleepers) which in places is starting to break down and is very uneven so it's not ideal for prams or wheelchairs. The beach itself is beautiful – no sunbeds or parasols available for hire (but that may be different in July and August). The season was definitely at an end when we arrived – there was a lifeguard on duty on Saturday when we arrived 15th September and also toilets and changing facilities however they all literally disappeared overnight on the back of a lorry! Sea great for swimming but does get deep quickly however there is also a more sheltered inlet which was used by parents with young children for paddling and playing in. Town itself about a 15 minute walk however there is a large grocery shop and pharmacy a few minutes from front entrance of hotel. Also a lovely long walk along the coast from the hotel past the harbour which brings you back into the town. Not many shops – few chemists, santander, sports shop, shoe shops, phone shop and some of the usual tourist shops selling everything from beachwear to hammers! Our bedroom was fine – the most incredibly comfortable bed and numerous pillows available. Small balcony and good sized bathroom. Large fan in room meant patio door could be left open and the room could be kept comfortable – air conditioning also worked well – 3 fan speeds. In summary great hotel – staff all lovely – very friendly and welcoming – definitely recommend for a quiet relaxing hotel in September.

    “The most comfortable bed ever!”

Only stayed one night wish it had been longer mainly because of the bed!! It was so comfortable and we all had the best nights sleep. The entertainment was good - a musical production of beauty and the beast. Lots of activities to get involved with. The pool was perfect for the children. Food choice was good and catered all dietary requirements. Would definitely visit again.

    “‘When’s the next flight home?’”

This holiday, given the images and description on the internet, was one my daughter and I were thoroughly looking forward to. It was a 7 day trip to celebrate my 50th birthday, which ultimately started and ended in disappointment. From description; we imagined a beach and town with restaurants and bars, evenings teaming with entertainment and a welcoming resort. The drive from Faro airport into Isla Cristina was lifeless; it is merely a hotel within a run-down area with our 4-star room view being a dried out park and a stunning skateboard half-pipe. A deserted area with nothing to do of an evening other than hardly hearing what ‘showtime’ event was on that night in the resort. That being said; unless you are a family with young children, they do accommodate well for entertainment in terms of games and activities, which at times was endearing! Throughout our stay, the bar staff always supplied us with endless inexperience and top notch rude behaviour. At times they were somewhat intimidating when approached, to the point where my daughter and I gave up even trying to get our watered down Pina Coladas after a 30 minute wait. Going only half-board seemed to be a good idea before we came, but realising the lack of places to eat around the area and the price of food/drinks at the hotel, I suggest going for the all inclusive option. Nonetheless, the buffet-style food served at breakfast and dinner was of a high quality with a variety of choice and different theme of food each evening. If however, you are looking for a sit down meal, accompanied by a long conversation and calming atmosphere, it’s probably not best to eat in this hotel. It was not only rushed but became annoying over time as the waiters/waitresses grabbed your plate before you could say ‘When’s the next flight home?’ We could not fault the accommodation itself. The pools were clean (though a tad cold) and the beds were very comfy. The bedrooms were spotless (the cleaners do a wonderful job), with a great shower and a good amount of space. Occidental Isla Cristina is predominantly a Spanish resort, which in itself is great. All of the families there seem to enjoy themselves with the facilities they have and it is nice to see. The desk staff tried to help at times, but we were quickly dismissed as just a number in the hotel. If they want more British customers, the hotel requires a little more training in customer service and maybe even show a little more respect considering it is a four star hotel which we paid for. Happy to be back in sunny Manchester.

    “What a great find”

We knew it was here, as we're local, but hadn't tried it since it was re-invented as The Oyster Shack. It's an eat-in (or rather out, there are picnic tables and umbrellas) or take-away specialising in very fresh seafood, local as much as possible. Very friendly staff, we had a terrific crab sandwich, a very nice coffee, though the small size is small, and a really delicious locally-made vanilla ice-cream. There is plenty of sand as it's built into the dunes behind Instow beach - at one end, that is - and children's toys. The municipal loos are very handy. You park either in the road just before the turning into the dunes, for free; or further on behind the dunes, for a fee. Don't attempt to stop in the road by the shack, you can get fined on the spot, if you're unlucky, so if you have an elderly or disabled person with you, drop them off before parking, or buy them a take-away and leg it. Plans seem to be afoot to build a shelter for eating out in bad weather, which would be good. Do try it, you won't get better value in many other spots.

“Occidental Isla Cristina Review 4.5/5 stars”

Really good hotel, good food (wide variety of fish and meat)and very friendly personnel. Breakfast is more or less the same every day, they could improve here but buffet and dinner are excellent. Airco in the room is a bit outdated, however there is at least an airco. Sometimes you have to wait long at the bar to get a drink and the bar closes very early at 00.00.
