90 YEARS, ,
THE SAME PHILOSOPHY
Its origin dates back to the 20s, when Argentinian Adan Diehl, avant-garde cult visionary, nature and art lover, was captivated by the poems in which Miquel Costa and Llobera professed their love for Formentor.
Having decided to respect nature and encourage art, he purchased a large area of Formentor and moved there with his wife. In 1929, Hotel Formentor became a reality. Writers, painters and musicians visited from all over the world.
Years later, the Boadas family took the baton from Diehl and consolidated the hotel’s philosophy of being a shelter for creative minds and a forum for debates and reflections.
Since then, international leaders, renowned artists, monarchs and Nobel Prize winners have visited this idyllic place in search of disconnection: Le Corbussier, the great Swiss architect; actors such as John Wayne, Charles Chaplin and Audrey Hepburn; personalities such as the Dalai Lama and Winston Churchill; and even Grace Kelly and Rainier of Monaco enjoyed part of their honeymoon in this symbolic place.
Formentor, a Royal Hideaway Hotel has therefore always been known as “the hotel of the stars”.
