    “Wonderful!!!”

We love this resort - several years we have stayed and the food is always excellent and the staff is very friendly. Entertainment is not very good. Very clean, lots of beach for walking. We have referred several friends and relatives over the years.

    “Barcelo Maya Palace”

Barcelo Maya Palace was an amazing resort! You stayed at one and had access to five other resorts. Very safe and staff was so helpful and friendly. So many food options for dinner time restaurants and food was amazing!

    “Food is medicore”

Attended with spouse and 80 other friends and family for a destination wedding. Stayed in the Palace. Pros: Wedding was beautiful on the beach - wait staff service at the wedding was good Rooms were clean, beds comfortable Plenty of chairs and options to be by the beach or by any of the pools, didn't feel crowded Turtles and light snorkeling just steps into the water is enjoyable Cons: The all inclusive food was mass produced and terrible, same things every day with few exceptions Can't get service by the pool except a random drink - if you want food expect to walk 10 minutes to an open buffet and sit inside for 30 minutes Alcohol is watered down and poorly made drinks Resort is large so getting anywhere takes awhile (no rooms are beachfront) Book dinner reservations early or you can't get in, but don't worry food is just as bad in the restaurants as it is in the buffets

    “Very good overall.”

Very good overall. Clean. Good food, especially in a la carte restaurants. Some service delay at the buffet. Just one thing for the management: Please-please-please get rid of these lilies flowers from the lobbies. THE SMELL IS SO HORRIBLE....

“Beautiful Beach, Excellent Food and Wonderful Staff”

Spoiler Alert: Long Review This was our 2nd time at the Barcelo Resort, the last time we stayed at the Barcelo Beach, which we loved. We thought we'd try the Palace this time to compare. We are a couple and stayed at the Palace for one week at the end of January 2020. We booked last minute through Westjet which was fine, we had a private transfer back to airport. Barcelo's Biggest Asset is their hardworking, efficient and always smiling staff. The attentive staff is what sets this resort apart from others. We especially wanted to thank Darwin in the Coral Grill who was always so welcoming and efficient, we looked forward to seeing him each day. In the Palace buffet Kevin Gonzalez Gil, Ivan Garcia and Yobani were very attentive and pleasant and we thank them for helping to make our stay so lovely. Check-In: This was the only part of our stay that could have gone better. Upon arrival there was no record of our reservation and we were told to come back. We had to ask if there was somewhere we could change or eat. There were no smiles and we were initially worried we would be moved to a different hotel. There seemed to be a lot of confusion and copying of our booking and passports, but no room. When we came back to reception the fourth time our reservation was now in the system and our room was ready. Room: We had a ground floor room in the middle section of Palace resort which was very quiet and well located. The rooms are bigger than the Barcelo Beach rooms and include a bathtub and walk-in shower, all toiletries, snacks, and a stocked mini-fridge. There was a bottle of champagne in the room upon arrival. We had to ask for bathrobes which we had by the next morning. Our room was very quiet. Wristbands, Towels and Lounges: One of the Palace "perks" is you do not need key cards or towel cards. Your Palace wristband doubles as your room key. Towels are unlimited for Palace guests so you can just leave your wet towel on your lounge at the end of the day as they collect them. Fresh towels were available throughout the day. Saving lounges is not required at the Barcelo Palace as there were many lounges both at the beach and the pool. We moved around throughout the day to stay in the shade and had no problem finding new lounges. Beach: We are beach people and this is what we go for and Barcelo does not disappoint. The beach spans from the Barcelo Palace to the new Barcelo Maya Adults Only. The Palace side has more rocks and the best snorkeling with turtles and fish swimming around you even without a mask. At the opposite end of the beach is the less rocky beach which is great for playing in the waves. We didn't bring pool shoes, just watch your step for rocks as you enter ocean on Palace side. Palace side is less wavy and great for floating. Many guests brought inflatable floaties from home. Grounds: This is a massive resort so get ready to walk. Beautiful walkway runs parallel overlooking ocean from one end of resort to the other. Perfect for pushing strollers, jogging or wheelchairs. There are ramps throughout and a covered walkway connecting all resorts. So if it rains you do not need an umbrella to get to your dinner reservation. Resort is very clean with lovely lush vegetation throughout. The architecture in most the Barcelo complex is traditional Mexican with the Palace and the Colonial being our favourites,We like to feel we are in Mexico. Lovely artwork throughout. The new Barcelo Maya Adults Only is ultra-modern, very white with not a lot of shade. Entertainment: Complex includes mall with sports bar, casino, small indoor skating rink, souvenir marketplace, disco, zipline, surfing park, and bowling. Skating, zipline, surfing, bowling and Pirates waterpark have extra cost. There are 3 theatres on the resort with rotating shows from circus, Michael Jackson, singing and dancing shows which we enjoyed. Kids: 2 wonderful waterparks are on the resort for little ones so it is not necessary to pay for the Pirate's Island Waterpark. Great resort for strollers. Food: Excellent food throughout with various theme nights at the buffets. Palace guest have 2 higher-end restaurants, we tried the Brasserie which was french cuisine and very good. We also did the tapanaki with the usual grill show and the Italian which was just o.k. We most enjoyed the buffet because of the great variety and the fact we don't like to sit down and eat for 2 hours. Palace guests have access to Premium liquor including Jamieson, which is kept under the counter. Coffee, cappuccino, espresso machines and soft ice cream machines are in all restaurants and buffets with takeaway cups. There is no "coffee shop" on the resort. The sports bar has 24 hour food should you arrive in middle of night. The Palace lobby bar has fruit, cookies and popcorn type snacks. Gluten-Free bakery items are well-marked and there was many options for vegetarians. Cancun Airport: Great duty-free and don't forget to buy your vanilla! We would definitely return to the Palace and would bring out own snorkel gear next time.
