    “Lovely Stay”

Myself and my husband have just returned from a great stay at the Barcelo Corralejo Bay. We stayed in a standarddouble room on the third floor overlooking a side street the bonus was we had the sun on the balcony of an evening. The room could do with being updated together with the bathroom as it was quite old fashioned in need of refurbishment and the air conditioning was non existent, I think you would struggle with it in the height of the summer, we were struggling with it in June when the weather was awful. The room was cleaned daily and as we were Barcelo members we were left two bottles of water each day. The hotel itself is huge, very clean and the staff were amazing, you were always greeted with a smile when going for breakfast and also for the evening meal, nothing was too much trouble for them. We stayed half board, the breakfast was excellent there was so much choice from hot and cold dishes, breads, meats, fruits, pastries etc, in the evening the restaurant had themed nights, Mexican, Chinese, International, Italian etc, the only gripe I do not think you should pay for water with your evening meal. The pool area was good with plenty of sunbeds, we never had an issue trying to get one, pool towels are available with a 20 euro deposit and could be changed once during the week. I do think the hotel would benefit purchasing cushions for the sun lounges as they became very uncomfortable when lying on them all day also I think it would have been better if around the pool they played a bit of music as it was really quiet and being in my late 40's would have liked it a bit more lively. Cannot comment really on the entertainment of an evening as we liked to go out however we did stay one night and watched a group of three ladies called "Soul Fit", they were really good. The hotel guests were mainly pensioners who dined at 7 pm so they could get a seat for the entertainment. I also had a facial in the Wellness Centre at the hotel which was fantastic. The beach and strip are only 2 minutes away however we took a walk to the dunes the beach there is absolutely gorgeous (when the sun was out which was not very often during our stay). We also spent a few days in the Rock Cafe and the Island Bar which had live music which was great. All in all was a nice relaxing holiday was just a shame about the weather as it was cloudy the whole week we were there. Would I visit Fuerteventura again possibly but staying in a more lively hotel preferably Barcelo Sands.

    “Lovely stay”

We have just had a great stay at the barcelo bay in Corallejo, staff were amazing, hotel very clean, food choice was fantastic. We are barcelo members, unfortunately those benefits did not materialise and the weather was shocking. Despite this it was definately the best hotel on the island and only a 2 min walk to the beach/sea.

    “Disappointing”

We holidayed in this hotel on the basis that is was adults only, however we didn’t envisage that this meant that the majority of guests would be of retirement age or beyond, and this was subsequently reflected in the overall “feel” of the hotel. The room (we had a standard double) was tired, tatty and in need of refurbishment, especially the bathroom. The air conditioning was very poor and I would not like to stay at this hotel if the weather got any warmer (around 24 degrees when we were there), the air-con wouldn’t cope. Location was excellent, close to the beach and also to the main area of bars, restaurants and shops (see later). Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of hot and cold dishes, breads, meats, fruits, pastries etc available. The pool area was good, with enough sunbeds for everyone, but people still reserved them all day using towels contrary to the hotel policy on reservations. Towels could be acquired for a 20 euro deposit and could be changed once during any week. The pool bar served up some good food choices, but much better was on offer a short walk away to the beach front. Dinner was relatively disappointing. The food was varied, with some themed dishes, but in general was of an average standard, unless you like chicken, pork and chips with everything. Dress code for men was long trousers, which could also include jeans. This didn’t stop the women dining in shorts which I thought was double standards. We had a massage at the wellness centre which was really good, which also gave us access to the spa which was an average set up and not worth paying 15 euro pp per day. The biggest disappointment was the entertainment and general ambiance of the hotel. It had no vibe, identity or feel good factor about it. If you like getting up for breakfast and then lying by the pool all day asleep in total silence, this is the place for you. However as early “fifty-somethings” we like to stay somewhere that has a bit of “go” about it. No music by the pool during the day, and no day time activities unless you like gentle water aerobics or stretching exercises. The evening entertainment was again tailored to the average age of the clients; tribute bands (not live music) covering Abba, Bee Gees, rock and roll, etc was the usual fare and the procedure appeared to be dinner as soon as the restaurant was open, grab a seat to watch the entertainment, then retire to bed at 10:30. We ventured into the town after the first night and found some great bars that played live music (Rock Café) and arrived back at the hotel at midnight to the deathly hush of a hotel that had already gone to sleep. Top tips. If you really want to go on a holiday that affords you absolutely nothing but rest and relaxation, this is the place for you, but book on a bed and breakfast basis as there are some great cafes and bars only a few minutes away. The Barcelo Sands is just up the road towards the main street. We popped in for a look and is far superior in terms accommodation quality (apparently only build a year ago) and appeared to be much more “fun”. Would I visit Fuerteventura again? Possibly, and I would also consider staying at the Corralejo resort. Would I stay in the Barcelo Corralejo Bay hotel again? Possibly, but I think I came 20 years too early.

    “Needs some improvements”

Have previously stayed at Barceló castillo royal level in Caleta which was fantastic, but as this was adults only thought we would give it a try. We were disappointed overall. The rooms were in need of upgrading especially the bathrooms. The air conditioning was awful and we spent the whole week with hardly any sleep as it was too hot. The food was good and there was always plenty of choice. However the hotel insisted that gentleman wear trousers which is fair enough however when some people turn up in tracksuit bottoms or cargo pants, I fail to see the point! Great location and very clean however I wouldn’t return until some upgrades have been made.
