    “Barcelo Solymar guys trip”

    The best part about the Barcelo is how close it is to downtown. You can easily walk to a bunch of bars or nightclubs. I would recommend this resort to young people who plan on going out at night. The food has gotten much better than the last time I was here about a year ago. They've widened out the buffet and added many more fresh options. I had a great time here. This is the only hotel I stay at if I'm ever travelling alone as this hotel normally had more people staying there than any other hotel on the strip.

    “Loved it”

    Food was good. I eat fish and it was always good. My kids had a pastas and never complained. You can always find something that is good. Beach is excellent. Staff were friendly and if you missing something in a room they will bring it to you, just have to ask the maid. There were a lots of students and they were a bit out of control but did not bother anybody, just way too loud. All in all great experience.

    “Horrible food, flood in the lobby...”

    Food was horrible and stay in the buffet from the breakfast to the evening. We have been sick. The rooms where old with mold. Beach was clean with a lot of the chairs and the pool was ok. There were also rats close to the pool

    “Too many party animals for us”

    We just did a family New Years trip to this resort (our 5th to Cuba) and the hotel was adequate in many ways like the food and service, though lacking in a few critical elements. Of course the beach is wonderful and this hotel is very close to the town of Varadero so walking there by road or on the beach is easy. We've come to lower our expectations in Cuba on quality standards but we found our rooms particularly run down and lacking in basic maintenance. We stayed in the un-renovated Bungalow number 21 which was relatively quite and the bed was great, but for example the chairs were too worn to sit in, there were numerous holes in the walls, spots of mold in the bathroom and broken plumbing fixtures, and 1/3 of the shower curtain rings were missing. If we complained about things they were usually fixed but the lines are long so we stop bothering and just lived with the deficiencies. We saw that some rooms were renovated but those were all "upgrades". The thing that really bothered us though were the groups of hooligans that congregated here, and I'm embarrassed to say that these were English speaking Canadians. We came with our kids and our Mom, and expected a respectful family resort but had several meals and visits in the lobby ruined by extremely drunk and obnoxious 20 year-year-old boys who were loudly swearing and oblivious of everyone around them. We were also woken up every night at 2am by loudly swearing party goers heading back to their rooms. I could accept that behavior on New Years Eve for example, but it happened often and nothing was done by serving staff or security people to intervene, not even stopping the endless supply of alcohol. We mentioned it to our server and they just shrugged it off. We, like other families, avoided parts of the resort where these groups hung out. Too bad as it could have been a nice place if the guests weren't so rowdy and out of control.

    “Decent stay ”

    We went with our family of 11 to this resort for its close proximity to town and nightlife for our adult children. We all enjoyed our stay, beautiful beach and the pool were nice. No swim up bar and less poolside entertainment and games than other resorts we've been to, but all good and never a shortage of lounge chairs. We all tired of the buffet food, never hot at Solymar but more made to order on the Arenas Blancas side. We were allowed only 2 nights at the a la carte restaurants, we did the Mexican and seafood and they were pretty good. There is only one 24 hour snack bar at the farthest end of the blancas property with hot dogs and "burgers".The buffets are closed for several hours between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner, so if you sleep in or miss lunch while walking the beach or need a late night snack after a drink too many, you may not get fed anything but a hot dog. Eating in town is fun, Varadero 60 is a great spot, loved it! Beatles bar was fun too! Staff were lovely for the most part. Lala is the best at the pool bar, Francisco at Arenas pool the lobby bar servers were all great. Our housekeeper Arlys was very sweet too. We had a renovated bungalow that was great. Most of our group were in bungalows that were not renovated. We had a great time, had no expectation that everything would be perfect, but we made memories and laughed all week.

We were allowed only 2 nights at the a la carte restaurants, we did the Mexican and seafood and they were pretty good. There is only one 24 hour snack bar at the farthest end of the blancas property with hot dogs and "burgers".The buffets are closed for several hours between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner, so if you sleep in or miss lunch while walking the beach or need a late night snack after a drink too many, you may not get fed anything but a hot dog. Eating in town is fun, Varadero 60 is a great spot, loved it! Beatles bar was fun too! Staff were lovely for the most part. Lala is the best at the pool bar, Francisco at Arenas pool the lobby bar servers were all great. Our housekeeper Arlys was very sweet too. We had a renovated bungalow that was great. Most of our group were in bungalows that were not renovated. We had a great time, had no expectation that everything would be perfect, but we made memories and laughed all week.
