“2 amazing family vacation weeks at Occidental Punta Cana”

2 adults and 4 kids 8-14 years old had an amazing time at Occidental Punta Cana. Especially the Activity team with their ongoing energy and friendlyness were amazing. I remember Diva, Chokolate and Jose. But they were ALL very professional and made the stay even better for us and our kids. We joined almost all the activities during our 2 weeks stay and we had a laugh at their Western show. Variety of food was fine and service good. The area Bavaro is just wonderful. The beach is amazing. We will gladly recommend this resort for family and couple vacation.

“"That Nightmare Will Never Happen to Me" - Wrong”

Before I start, I want to say I am not one of those snooty people who requires a flawless vacation to enjoy it. I am very down to earth. I also know mistakes happen, and am quick to forgive so long as someone takes ownership and tries to compensate for their mistakes. DO NOT BOOK THROUGH TRANSAT. EVER. I would be worried to book at this resort even with a different provider but Transat's service was deplorable. 3 months after our trip, we still do not know who ultimately messed up because none of the businesses will own up. We booked through Trip Central, Transat was our provider, and Occidental Punta Cana for our stay. We had a 2 hour delay for our flight out there (completely fine, it happens) and a 2-3 hour delay coming home (again, it happens). We arrived at Occidental at 1 am and 13 of us were told the resort was full; we would not be getting a room that night. Everyone there had done their due diligence and printed their booking information to prove our bookings. Sorry, no rooms. At approximately 3:30 am we were shipped to another resort after hours of waiting for....not really sure what?. 4:30 am we had been checked in (not sure why it took so long since obviously no one else was checking in at dawn). Half of us were escorted to our rooms, my boyfriend and I were told "down the hallway all the way to the end on the left". We arrived at a pitch black, dank corner of a 3000 room resort to find our room. Safe didn't work, TV didn't work (who cares, no one should be watching TV on vacation but it's the principal of the matter). Smelled weird. We were told we had to be up at 8:30 to meet our Transat rep to work out this problem. None of us got any sleep because we were so exhausted and frustrated at this point. We were told next morning we could go back to the other resort if we wanted (not sure how there were no rooms at 5am but all of a sudden at 9am there are enough??). Shipped back in several different shuttles, all disorganized around..noon. At 1pm we were told there would be rooms but none were ready. Sat in the lobby with our luggage for a while then thought screw this. Threw our stuff on a luggage carrier and went for a swim. We had been paying for services for almost 24 hours after all and receiving none. Around dinnertime our rooms were finally ready, almost 24 hours after we should have checked in. Have I mentioned yet that this trip cost us $1400, and our price included the 'superior preference club' which in retrospect feels like a cruel joke. Beach was GORGEOUS. Pools were cool. Resort itself was beautiful. Tons of people selling stuff, which I understand but was so exhausted by it on the beach by the end of the week. The A La Carte restaurants were fabulous and there was a huge variety of evening food and snacks that were delicious. Every night we got to try a new a la carte. The buffet and snack bars during the day were awful and I felt quite sick when I ate any of it so I stuck to a small breakfast and ate a lot at dinner. The service was meh. Asked for a lot of drinks and had a completely different drink handed to us. Booze is booze so that wasn't a huge concern for us. Had our table given away twice at breakfast (someone seated us and by the time we came back from the buffet they had seated someone else at our table). This was a bit annoying, but again not really a huge deal. Here's what I guess my message would be. Dominican Republic should not cost $1400 unless you are getting 4 or 5 star service. Had I paid $1000-$1100 for this trip, my expectations would have been different and I would have seen all the inconsistencies and poor communication differently. If you can manage to book this trip at a lower price than I did, I think you will like the resort. DO NOT BOOK THROUGH TRANSAT and I highly recommend calling the resort 24 hours before as a reminder you are coming. Even by doing that, this could still happen to you. Several people in our party called ahead and it still happened. i know people don't always have time for such lengthy reviews; there are several other things that happened that put a damper on our trip that I have LEFT OUT because I don't think it helps at this point to review them all in detail. For what I paid, I expected different service from everyone involved: Trip Central, Transat and Occidental. Compensation does not only mean money. An apology and knowing that someone felt really awful about what happened to us likely would have sweetened the sour taste in my mouth. The businesses we dealt with have completely deplorable customer service and I urge anyone reading this to carefully consider giving your valuable business to someone else who deserves it. Because your business IS valuable and these businesses won't recognize that. Your dream vacation should be just that; that is why you pay as much as you do to travel. This was not a dream, it was a nightmare.

    “7 great days”

We had a great time at this facility. However if you were vegan this would be difficult. Please stock some veggie burgers, and have some oatmeal made with water available. The vegetables were abundant but most had cheese added..this could have been put on the side for those who wished cheese. Nuts and dried fruit would also be appreciated, as well as beans made without meat or chicken. Chef at the royall club was very accommodating and did the best he could.

“Occidental Punta Cana Family Vacation ”

It has been unforgettable vacation. Animation Staff was outstanding, La Diva, Granpa, Roger, Heriberto among others made us feel so good. At the Main buffet Anarely Bonilla deserves 5 stars for her dedication at work, and the last but not least is the main reference of the Occidental Punta Cana, Mr. Santo. Santo is the bartender in "La Bodeguita". The best time we had was with him. Made us feel VIP. I highly recommend this place, but what makes this place high rated is not the place itself, is the people. Wonderful people.
