    “Awesome Resort”

This resort is Beautiful! It is huge with 11 restaurants. The rooms are large and at the premium level the balconies have a jacuzzi. The pools are large with built-in jacuzzis and fountains. We ate in 3 of the specialty restaurants; the Steak house, the seafood restaurant and the French restaurant. All were excellent. The beef here was the best we have ever had in the islands. The only picky items are the tv selections were poor and inconsistent, at least the english stations, and the shower, where the shampoo leaked out and was always empty. The golf course is adequate, but don't be fooled by the "free" greens fees, the cart fee is $50 per person.

    “Excellent Family Resort”

I'm Dominican and I've been to Barceló countless times since I was little, and I was very glad to see that Barceló keeps getting better over the years. The staff at reception was very nice and helpful. Check-in was quick and we got our room on time. The staff suggested we made reservations for the à la carte restaurants, so we took a look at the menus and picked the restaurants straight away. Rooms and facilities: We got a family suite and we loved it. We had a partial view of the ocean and a partial view of the garden. We had 2 bathrooms, 2 double beds on one side and 1 king size bed on the other, a jacuzzi and a mini bar with beer, champagne and rum. The beds and pillows were comfy, the room temperature was easily manageable and overall a good comfy room that was cleaned daily. Overall, the facilities at this hotel look very clean and new and we loved that. Pools and beach: We were 3 adults and 2 children. We loved the fact that there is a little bit of everything for everyone. The kids loved the kid's pool over at the Family Deluxe section and the pool with the Pirate ship. The latter was very nice and chill and it's perfect if you don't want to be at the main pool which is normally more crowded since that's where all the fun activities are happening (If you're not Premium you have to pay to enter this section). The beach is, of course, very beautiful and clean. It's a relatively shallow beach so it won't be an issue if you or your kids can't swim . There are watersports and lots of chairs! so if you don't see empty chairs at first sight just walk a little towards the left (as if you were going to the Adults only area) and i'm sure you won't have a problem finding beach chairs. Food and drinks: I honestly wasn't expecting a lot food-wise. There is room for improvement in this area, but it did surprise me positively. The buffets looked good overall, the decorations and the presentation of the food was good. Flavor was good. The variety was ok, but it has room for improvement. During breakfast for example, there should be more choices for those that are lactose intolerant, they only had whole milk or chocolate milk (this applies to the coffee bar as well). At lunch time they served pretty much the same menu everyday, which became tiring after 4 days. We normally had dinner at the á la carte restaurants. We definitely recommend the French restaurant, both service and food were excellent. The Spanish one was also very good, we recommend it. The Steak House was good, but not the best. Overall, it was good, no one got food poisoning and ingredients looked fresh. Premium drinks are available for Premium level guests, so if they're not displaying a particular drink or brand, just request it and they'll offer it to you or similars, we had no issues there. Service: Service was okay, not exceptional. There is room for improvement for service at the buffets, but overall it was okay. You can tip if you want to, not mandatory, but recommended at the buffets if you're gonna go to the same one for the whole stay. Activities: You won't get bored. There are plenty of activities going on during the afternoon at the pool and at the beach. There is a bowling alley and a games center. There is a park for small children. At nighttime, you can go to the show (they weren't the best but at least you get entertained), there's a casino, the lobby bar and the disco which plays varied music, so no complaints there. Conclusion: I would go back if it was a family vacation. If I had to go back JUST with my partner, I'd probably choose another resort with a more personalized service and with a more varied buffet service. But overall, this was a very good for the whole family.

“1st timers review and opinion of Barceló ”

Where to begin? I’ve read a lot reviews and was concerned about staying here. First, a little about me. I’m a very chill guy. I’m laid back and calm. I’ve been a road warrior for 14 years so I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels. Just getting here was exhausting mainly because of the 5:00 am flight and packing all night. We were premium level so I knew where to go. The bellhop told us to go to the main check in but I knew better. Check in was simple. We had to pay for the week and they gave us some papers but they didn’t go over too many of the benefits. I was so tired I didn’t notice until we were in the room. No worries. Lots of time to get that information. Our room was fantastic. We got the family deluxe suite where it’s two rooms, two bathrooms. This part is nice. Kids on one side, Mom and Dad on the other. The negative is that the bathroom areas do not give you privacy. They use a frosted glass which you can make out your outline clearly. There is also a hole that they use for the handle. Good for spying kids! This was upsetting to my wife. I’ll attach a photo of me pretending to use the restroom. Some issues on day one. I had to call down to have the toilet fixed three times. We also had issues with WiFi but that deserves its own section. They responded well except when I said that it leaking. I called again hours later and said you are wasting hundreds of gallons of water and then they came right up. The rest of the day and night was lost. Everyone got so tired that you are useless at different times so we settled for room service and just relaxed in the room. The rest of the 9 days had a few minor annoyances but nothing too major or upsetting. It became obvious to me that if you called the Premium Desk and they were busy they would just transfer you to nowhere/busy line. Which is odd because all you do is call back. They did this so many times that it can’t be a coincidence. However, you eventually get thru even if it takes 5 times. I just go with the flow. A couple of highlights: Wi-Fi: This was a hassle the first few days. They give you a ticket with a random numbers as your user id and the same with your password. You better memorize that or keep the ticket on you. We have 6 devices and the tickets were good for 4. Which means you have to log off one device to get on the other. Another headache is that you would have to call down to have them reset your user id because you would get an error that said too many people were logged on even if you logged off. After a few days of calling to reset they gave us another ticket and we didn’t have that issue anymore. The connection is decent. You want have internet at the beach but inside the main areas it worked fine if spotty. Beach/Pool Chairs: I guess they cleaned up the reserving of chairs by making you keep your beach towels with you. Which was a pain in the beginning but I got used to it especially when you realize that chairs are now open because you can’t lose your towels and get new ones without a hassle. The best tip I can give you for beach chairs is to walk away from the center/main part of the resort in either direction and the beach opens up. We stayed closer to the adult section and there were less people and more chairs. I never saw cocktail/waitress service anywhere and we walked to the bars to get the drinks which was fine because I’d eat 10,000 calories a day. I needed what exercise I could get. Food: Full disclosure. My kids only wanted to go to the buffet because they could get unlimited soft serve ice cream and be independent. The food at the buffet is 50% good and 50% bad. You just have to figure out which is which. They do change it up daily but some food stays out too long and becomes dry. The restaurants we went to where Santa Fe. If you can remember Sizzler then that’s it! For those who don’t, you get an average cut of meat, small potato and a decent sized salad bar. Dolce la Vita. That was the worst food. Almost inedible. We immediately went down to the buffet afterwards. La Comedie (French) this was really good. Not sure if it is worth the surcharge if you are not premium but it was good. Last was Kyoto. We all thought the food was good and the kids enjoyed the show they perform while cooking. I should also mention that room service was pretty good. It takes roughly 45 minutes but it is warm to your room. No complaints from me. I heard people complain of the dress code for men and were surprised. I’m not sure how this is a surprise. It is written on everything especially your reservation. Just know that half of the restaurants require long pants and shoes. Most Europeans, especially the Russians, dress nicely so you will want to fit in and not look like a slob. One tip about the food. No one writes down your order and almost every meal one of the drinks would be wrong or they bring out the wrong food for someone. We just went with it and laughed. The upside my daughter likes fish now since she thought she was getting chicken. LOL! Just don’t tell her she likes fish now. Language: Yes. Most don’t speak English. The signs are in Spanish, English and Russian. I found a simple Hola! and a smile went far. You can use Google translate to communicate. I used it to leave notes for the maid. Very Helpful. Voucher/Resort Credits: Just forget about the resort credit. It is just a coupon for up to a certain amount off. The My Barceló credit is only good at 4 places and not the stores. We used it at the Spa and had two free treatments. Overall, would I come back?…no. This is only because I would want to experience another resort or another Island. It has nothing to do with the service or the resort itself. We had a great time and did not want to leave after 10 days.

    “Amazing Resort!!”

This was a "sisters trip". From start to finish this place and the premium stay was amazing. First check in, staff was friendly and accommodating I drank champagne while my sister checked us in. We were told of all the perks that premium level allowed, so many it was hard to remember. Next the room, we had an oceanfront walkout #6156, a nice little walk from the main building, but we didn't mind the exercise, especially after eating the amazing food (I thought the French restaurant was the best), but the Steakhouse and Japanese restaurant were also very good. We were not able to get reservations to the Italian restaurant, but I was told by other guest that it's really good. I wish there had been a restaurant that would have offered authentic Dominican food, being from the States I've eaten Dominican food here, but would have enjoyed eating while in the DR. I didn't care for the buffet food, but there was always cheese and fruits available to eat. By the second day we found the Sports bar and was able to get food more to our liking. The staff was excellent, we were always greeted with an "hola" and a smile by all staff. We spent a lot of time at the spa area and the s pa pool, because it was easier to find seating areas. The pools are massive and amazing, but difficult to find seating if you are not there early. We took a dune buggy adventure, another amazing experience with amazing staff who gave directions in both English and Spanish. The Resort also has a train that can take you to different areas in the Resort, as a Premium guest, we had access to the other areas and spent some time at the adults only Barcelona Beach. This area seemed to be more sedate, I preferred the Palace. If I had any negative about any part of my stay, it would be the missed opportunity to eat Dominican food and the lack of finding seating at the pool areas.

In first part of July, we came as every year, with our three grand son. We had a premium suite and a smaller suite communicating. As always our stay was wonderfull. If any special need ask and you will get what you desire. Thank you to Barceló team. Or stay was superb, we will come back for sure.
