    “My Stay”

This place is so unorganized that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. The bar was the cheapest bar stock they could get and their wine selection is horrible. They always try to upswell the wine that is when you can get into one of the restaurants on property. My group ended up eating at two great restaurants in Playa because we could not get into the restaurants and where sick of the buffet. Do yourself a favour and spend a little more and stay at Grand Velas in any class they offer and you will be totally blown away. First class all the way and a true 5star resort.

    “Spring break ”

We stayed at Barcelo Maya Palace from March 10-15. Our group was high school seniors and parents. This was my second time on a senior trip to Barcelo for spring break. The first trip, we booked the Tropical and were moved to the Caribe. I did not want that to happen again, so we decided to pay the extra to stay at the Palace. I'm so glad we did! We had a much better experience at the Palace and it was worth the extra money. Here's the reasons: Better food at the buffets and snack place Snorkeling right off the beach (saw sea turtles, lots of fish, stingrays) Close to the Tropical pool where the teenagers hang out, (although ours stuck around the Palace because they were having fun there) Bigger rooms Cleaner rooms and better housekeeping service Really nice lobby and lobby bar The size of the Palace grounds was not overwhelming Beautiful grounds, beach and views Didn't feel crowded at all Were always able to find chairs on the beach The NOT so good: Purchased wifi and it was awful! I kept having to log back in every time I wanted to text someone Check in was very long and needed to be better organized. They need to have more people working the desk Bartenders were rude to the teenagers unless they tipped Dinners were good but took way too long (French and Italian were the best) Although it didn't feel crowded, we still had to play the towel game for good seats around the pool Not much for entertainment around the pool The resort is absolutely huge, but we didn't really feel the need to leave the Palace unless we wanted to. So it's as small or large as you want it to be. The shuttle took us anywhere we wanted to go and we never had to wait long. Overall it was a great trip and I would recommend the Palace to anyone. Families, friends trip, couples, groups. Be warned: If you don't like being around teenagers or are easily offended, don't visit during spring break. If you're looking for a good, affordable trip for spring break, I would recommend the Palace over the other 4 hotels at this resort. The only people that didn't have trouble with wifi were the ones that had international service through their cellular carriers in the states. They really need to sink some money into better wifi and have it be included with NO extra charge!!

    “Disapointing Experience”

This is the seventh time we stayed in this hotel an unfortunately we have seen how the quality of services and food have decreased along the years. This time hoping that as Barcelo Unique members would obtain an upgrade to a premium level ocean view junior suit we reserved a premium level pool view junior suit. As usual when we arrived there was no recognition for being a frequent client or being on the top tier of their Frequent Guest Program; and also as usual 45 minutes in order to set everything and obtain the keys of our room, as the lack of recognition we did not get an upgrade and neither got a better view room, on the contrary we obtain a room on first floor watching a palm. So we went once again to the premium lounge and they gave us another room with better views but with a mini bar that did not work and a nightstand in which the marble was broken from one side to the other which made the drawer to be always open. Although they mention that this was a premium room, the quality of the service is not the same as the one given in the premium area with ocean view, every night we have to call to the administration in order to get the turndown service which should be part of the benefits of being premium. Another of the benefits of being Unique Level Guest is the detail or amenities that they send to you room, which after going with five different people in three different days finally got to the room because we told them that we leave next day. The quality of the food in the buffet restaurants have diminished, and the variety in them also has been reduced. Although being in Mexico, at least at La Hacienda during the breakfast hours the Mexican food was really tasteless and made with recipes that does not correspond with the traditional least nouvel Mexican Cuisine. Also in the beverages you have to ask and check that they gave you specifically what you have asked, as premium guest you get "premium" liqueurs and I asked for a Golden Margarita with aged Tequila and they brought something really different so I went to the bar and watch as the barman got from some hidden place the bottle of Aged Tequila. Another of my complaints is the restaurant hours, I don't know for whom they are thought as Mexican and on vacation I am not going to have breakfast at 7:00 in the morning, and unfortunately the latest you can arrived to get breakfast is 10:00 in the morning if not you have to go to the Mirador restaurant which have less variety of food and almost none natural juices. The beach as usual was beautiful and the staff such as waiters, and chamber maids really work hard in order to give a good service. Finally would I recommend the premium level room with pool view, no, it's not worth it, you have to walk around half a mile to get to the restaurants as the rooms are in the Oaxaca building, the service is lacking, the view is mediocre (the terrace of some rooms have distant ocean view), premium lounge does not report a real benefit and the only advantage you get are premium liquors; better pay more just for the front ocean view or save money and stay at the regular hotel area only asking to get a room at one of the first blocks of the Michoacan building.

This was our first time to this resort and it was absolutely amazing. We stayed at the premium level, which I highly recommend. Our pool view room was terrific. Housekeeping did a great job, every person we encountered was friendly and helpful. There was so much to do, we loved swimming with the dolphins, my son had a great time body surfing at the waterpark, we went out on the catamaran, beaches were gorgeous and the pools were so large that I never felt crowded or even noticed that there were other people in the pool. The food was ok, after a few days the buffets for breakfast and lunch were just the same day after day. Otherwise, I do not have a single complaint and we cannot wait to return.

    “Too Pricy for its quality”

Yes... facilities are awesome! Specially if you have kids, it's Mayan Disneyland. But for that price I would actually go to Disney with park tickets and all. Pros: kids pool and playground. Beach front, beautiful sight. Big rooms and bathrooms. Mostly friendly service (dah they are Mexicans 😉) Cons: costs as a luxury hotel WHICH IS NOT. Food is.... 😖terrible. You can't get a snack unless you go to the restaurant. Most answers will start with: yes, for an extra cost you can... huge place, mostly buildings and walking thru rooms area. Descent restaurant and lounges need reservations hard to get. Worst of all.... are you ready? NO WIFI INCLUDED!!!! $12 USD per hour (yes, stabbed in the heart). Bottom line... if you are going to spend this kind of money you can go to luxury Hotels like Fairmont Mayakoba or alike. OR you can spend 30% in small beautiful local boutique hotels @the beach.
