Barceló Maya Palace reviewed by Laura S on . Very large resort and kid friendly, but not crowded. Great place! Everything was as expected, via the website. “Very disappointed so far :(”

I am down currently for the Dave Matthews concert. I paid extra to be in the Palace, as I read that it had nicer amenities, etc than the other hotels at Barcelo. So far, it has been a huge disappointment. I have not seen the "upgraded" amenities and the rooms are the same as the other hotels. They said that only Palace guests would have access to the palace, but that is not true and the pools have been crowded with guests from the other hotels camping out all day. There are no elevators in the building either, which is not a huge deal, but unexpected, and I'm traveling with an injured ankle, so my third floor room isn't the most convenient. The room is definitely not up to standards, as the TV doesn't work, none of the overhead lights work, there are large cracks in the wall and places where it has been badly painted to coverup issues. I have called the front desk twice asking for the TV to be fixed as well as the lights, and no one has come up yet. I know I'm not here to watch tv, but I like falling asleep to it. The air does not keep the room cool, and there are plastic mattress pads on the beds which are not only insanely noisy, but make the bed unbearably hot. Definitely not what I would expect from a luxury resort. The bright spot so far has been the experience at Rodizzio, highly recommended. Jacob was our waiter and he put on a spectacular show masking the Mayan coffee for dessert. He was attentive and made the experience fun. The food was by far the best we've had so far. On the plus side, outside of the room, it's a gorgeous resort, seems to be kept clean.

“Thank you Martd Estrada and the French Restaurant”

First Trip to Barceló Maya Palace. It was beautiful. All of the staff was friendly, and everyone was busy cleaning and serving. Never crowed, plenty of chairs every where. We thought the food at the Palace was better than the other locations on the resort. Martd at the breakfast buffet remembered each morning what we wanted to drink. Our server at the French Restaurant (Nelson?) was the best server ever. We had steak & lobster and the shrimp salad was fantastic. They have a dolphin show each day, and had a massage on the beach. The only thing that could have been improved was, we could not seem to get our A/C cooler at night.

“Very large resort and kid friendly, but not crowded. Great place!”

Everything was as expected, via the website. I was surprised that "all-inclusive" really only meant your meals/drinks were paid for. It seemed that any little thing we did still required more cost... i.e. every activity beyond swimming. I take that back, the kids club was completely free, and that was an incredible program. The Barcy Kids Club staff was incredible - - sweet, patient, very kind to the kids. Lots of fun activities planned for them. Would definitely go back. We really had no complaints, I have been to another all inclusive before (10 years ago, in puerto Vallarta) and that was a much smaller complex. I personally enjoy the smaller resorts to this one, because it's easier to navigate. Our room was quite far from the pool area, but there was a free shuttle to take us to the center of activity. Although Barcelo Maya Palace is huge and connected to I think 4 other Barcelo hotels and amenities... it was still a completely wonderful stay. All the staff was beyond wonderful, kind, helpful. Also, very very clean... everywhere we went was beautifully maintained.

    “Great Stay!”

My husband and I came kid free for a long weekend for his 40th birthday. We loved the hotel and the whole complex. We will be coming back again with our kids. This is the first hotel in the area that we really truly want to return to. I was a little nervous about check in and some reviews I had read about long lines. Especially after a long day of travel. We had absolutely no check in issues. All of the staff throughout the stay were very friendly and accommodating, from the check in to the restaurants and the bars. We liked the vast options of the sprawling complex. Sometimes I feel all inclusives can be a bit limited with options, but there were a lot of choices in the Barcelo complex. We enjoyed walking between the different hotels, but there is also a shuttle if you prefer that. We enjoyed the top shelf liquor options available at the Palace and we did feel that the pool at the Palace was less crowded.
