    “Repeat Visitor”

I've been to this resort 4 times. I keep coming back because the food is consistently good, and the beach is fantastic. Not too many rocks, and there's clear water with lots of fish. I've been to 6 or 7 other resorts in the area, so I have benchmarks for comparison! I'm hoping to be back this summer with a friend who accompanied me last year. She's also insisting it's the only resort she wants to go to. Of course, both of us love the beach so that's one of the most important aspects for us!

    “SPRING BREAK WITH MY DAUGHTERS”

I took my 4 teenage daughters for a 6 night stay at this all-inclusive resort, and they LOVED it. The food quality and service was excellent. The grounds were very well maintained and manicured. The entire hotel staff was very helpful but my girls especially enjoyed the activities staff that made their days at the pool a lot of FUN! The excercise room was more than adequate. The quality of the daily maid service for our suite was one area that needs improvement. We booked a Chichen Itza tour through the hotel and it was a highlight of the trip. Overall, a great 6 day getaway !!!

    “Vacation and Wedding ”

Check in was a little stressful. Getting keys for our group and not having all of our group in the same building. Other than that we had a wonderful time. The rooms we had were very spacious well appointed, beds were comfortable. The pools were very clean with plenty of chairs and clean towels available upon request. Also there were plenty of chairs available on the beach. They have the beach, kids and adult pools with plenty of activities for the younger ones. There was plenty of restaurants with seating availability while some of the speciality restaurants required reservations with a dress code, which was appreciated, no flip flops and shorts. The staff made sure you got what you asked for, with a smile. The adult beverages, what would you like, yes sir here you are. We will return again.

    “Even better the 2nd time!”

Barcelo Palace We stayed at the Barcelo Palace the week of March 25. This was our second visit and can say both times were fantastic. This time we also decided to upgrade to the Premium Level. The resort is great. Nice pools and a nice beach. We spent most of our time at the beach as it was less crowded than the pool area. We stayed during Spring break so it was nearly impossible to get a chair(s) at the pool. The best thing about the beach is the snorkeling. You can see a wide variety of fish and everyday we would swim and see at least one, and usually more, turtle. Awesome experience for my kids (12 and 15). The restaurants and buffets were very nice and the food was always good. We ate at the Caribe and Radizio restaurants at the Palace along with some other restaurants at the resorts. Staying at the Palace and having access to the other restaurants is a big plus. The staff at the Palace are fantastic. Everyone was always very helpful and did their best to make our stay enjoyable. I read some other negative reviews related to the check-in process. I have to say they could improve the check-in procedure, but once you're "in" it's well worth the wait.

“Family Vacation - One of the Worst”

Allow me to preface by saying this was not our first time at an all-inclusive resort. It was, however, our first and last time staying at a Barcelo property. Our family vacation included 16 Guests. Check-in is an absolute mess. It took us over an hour and thirty minutes (90+ minutes) to check in. We checked in for two rooms, as my brother and I were the first of our group to arrive. One room was ready, one was not. Found out later that day that the staff mixed up our rooms. Asked to change, was told "no pasa nada" (don't worry about it.) as you can image, this lead to complications for room charges and especially at checkout. A credit card IS NOT REQUIRED if you do not want anything charged to the room. I could go on for days about why this was the worst check in we've ever gone through, but I will spare you. Short story: no one in our group checked in in under an hour - not even the guests who were "Premium" level. No free/"included" hot tubs on-site - you have to pay $40 to use the spa. Pools supposedly close at 10PM according to the "Resort Guide" in the room. Signs around the resort say that pools close at 8:00PM, and a guard kicked us out saying that the pools close at 7:00PM. Resort was clean. Buffet food was OK. Reservation restaurants food was better than expected after eating at the buffet the first night. The food and wait staff, and lost service staff, except for the front desk, are generally nice and helpful. Strange happenings with housekeeping staff. The hotel brought us a plate of pastries one night, 2 days later we left the plate out after leaving the room and the chocolate covered strawberry mysteriously disappeared. Beach was nice. Pools were all very nice. Checkout was a disaster. My brother was double charged for a Bali bed rental. charges showed up on my room even though they didn't have my bracelet number. Having those charges removed and corrected was a mess - we spent over an hour on our night there just sorting out the bill. Then, the next day at checkout they wouldn't let us leave without settling the now $0 balance on my room. Everything about our first and last hours at this resort was awful. The front desk staff needs more training - nobody there cares about your stay. The food/waitstaff/bar staff were all OK. Housekeeping was a little dicey, always use the room safe. You worked hard to earn your money and your time off for a vacation -PLEASE take my advice and spend your money elsewhere. This place is not worth it.
