“All the comfort of a 4 stars in the nature (With some useful tips)”

One week stay as a couple. We have the standard room which is spacious, clean and very comfortable. Each building has its own concierge, so do not pay more. If you stop to ask them a few questions, they will offer you a ceramic Maya calendar as well as its traduction. You will be able to find there your astrological sign Maya. Thanks to Kambles for the information and few tricks to visit the site. It is possible to see the complete map in their web site If you are a lover of wildlife and flora, this is the perfect place. The site is large, but easily walkable. It takes 10-15 minutes to walk from the lobby to the small beach. Here are some tips that I think might be helpful to you; If you want to feed the animals, know that this is forbidden, but many give small pieces of bananas. The monkeys stand high in the trees, so if you have a balcony at the 3rd they will come to visit you. Be careful not to leave anything on your balconies! The food is taken by the monkeys and these can have fun throwing your clothes down even your cell phone! If you take a look at the map. The swimming pool on the left (between building 19 and 20), you will find music and young family as well as activities. The pool on the right, between building 17 and 14 is much quieter and the chairs are more comfortable. Initially, this pool was reserved for the club and the time sharing, but it was possible for us to be there every day. The gym is great with several cardio machines as well as a variety of body building equipment. I put pictures on TA's website. At the gym, there are towels, water and apples. The gym is the busiest between 4pm and 6pm. There is a wide variety of alcohol. I advise you to try the local drink called; Xtabentun. Anise and honey liqueur to take on ice or nature. The shops on the site are very attractive, but also expensive. It is possible to go to Playa DelCarmen and find the same cheaper items. The best time to negotiate your purchases is towards the end of the afternoon. There is a 24-hour medical clinic on site. Voila! I wish you a great stay and would not hesitate to return.

    “My Amazing Wedding @ Xcaret”

I had my wedding at this resort in Feb of 2017. It was nothing short of magical! Melanie and Luz made the entire process (which was over a year in the making!) a complete breeze. I was nervous with choosing a location before having a site visit. They were not pushy at all, so accommodating and quick over phone/email, they put all my worries at ease. All of our guests loved staying there. It was a great mix of an upscale resort combined with a jungle/beachy feel. The price was very reasonable for all-inclusive as well. We could not have had a more perfect wedding week at Occidental Xcaret!

    “Tropical jungle meets Caribbean blue”

I spent a week at the resort in February and could have easily extended my trip (had I not had family and a job awaiting my return to the U.S.). There is so much to do and see from walking the trails through the brush or lounging on the beach to discovering ancient Mayan ruins within the property - plus there is SO MUCH FOOD - I was never left feeling bored or like I needed to fill my time doing something. There are several HUGE pools including a saltwater pool that's actually carved out of the rocks on the sea - it's really a sanctuary because the waves (and sounds of the waves) crashing up on the rocks almost makes up for the tiny beach that exists on the property. But don't let that deter you. The beach - albeit small - is lovely! It's a man-made cove that's carved out of the otherwise rocky shores of this part of the Riviera. The water was still crystal blue, the sand was still white, the fish were still approachable when I snorkeled and there's still a bar, restaurant, volleyball courts, a DJ booth, etc. There are plenty of spots - hammocks, swings, lawn chairs, etc. - to lounge around and overall, it's quite comfortable. The food was very good. I ate in the buffets at least twice a day - breakfast and lunch - and then ventured to the full-service restaurants for dinner. Nothing was bad, everything was fresh, service was excellent. One of my traveling mates is vegan and she had absolutely NO trouble finding numerous dishes off every menu to satisfy her cravings. We ate at the Italian, East-Asian, traditional Mexican restaurants and all were very good. My one beef: With the amount of acreage and number of pools within the resort I expected at least one non-smoking area. You know what? Not just non-smoking but also a designated quiet area. Even at the "quiet" pool where there was no loud music blasting from the bar, people brought their own portable radios and smoked everywhere - turning otherwise tranquil areas into noisy college parties. I understand vacation means different things to different people but there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that they can't designate an area at the pools and/or near the beach a non-smoking, quiet area. That was very frustrating to all of us traveling together. Overall, this place was magical. So many animals, so much jungle, Mayan ruins, easy-access to excursions (we did Tulum and Akamal and the Xcaret eco-park next door) and great service met our expectations and we will definitely consider going back.

    “Amazing Wedding, Melanie was incredible!”

My best friends just got married at this wonderful property. The venue was the PERFECT escape for all of us, from all over US. I immediately recognized how incredible Melanie, the wedding planner, was! She seriously was a Jack of all Trades! From picking the bride up in the shuttle (she was the driver!), to being the MC at the wedding, to coordinating the ceremony, Melanie did it ALL! I am in the hospitality industry myself, and I was absolutely blown away. I highly recommend this resort. We all had an incredible time with now, the most rewarding memories. TAKE ME BACK!

    “9th trip back here”

We returned from our 9th trip to Occidental at Xcaret Destination on January 31st. Since the Barcelo take-over, we noticed many changes. There are many positives and a few negatives. Negatives: 1) This resort still doesn’t acknowledge returning guests. You would think they should know how many times someone has visited, but they have no process to track it. When we said it was our 9th visit, reception couldn’t have cared. We did receive an upgrade on our 7th visit but had to advise them in advance and ask for it. 2) The food has gone downhill. You never go hungry, but it is so repetitive in what they serve. Same food every evening in the buffet, even though the night’s theme has changed. Occasionally they changed up something. 3) Soft-serve ice cream replaces the hand scooped variety. One of the best ways in the past to finish off a meal was a small bowl of Vanilla coconut, mango or some other type of tropical ice cream. The freezer chests have been removed now and replaced with soft-serve machines which you help yourself to. Vanilla, Strawberry or chocolate (sometimes replaced by Nutella). Wasn’t too surprised to see it, I have been to the Barcelo Tropical before and all the Barcelo restaurants have them. 4) This negative is regarding the guests. I know it is an all-inclusive, but I was so disappointed in the number of people who don’t tip. These people work real hard for low pay. They work six days a week with only one day off. I paid roughly $20US per day in tips and it was well worth it to see the smiles on their faces. Positives 1) The serving staff continues to be the best we have seen in the Maya Riviera. Take the time to speak with them, learn some Spanish from them and ask them about their families. You will make a friend for your stay there. 2) I like the fact you don’t have to line-up to make restaurant reservations for the week. You can just show up in the evening. If they are busy, they will take your name and give you a pager disk to let you know when your table is ready. Just go back outside and have a drink and relax or walk around the shops. 3) You can now see the big Mayan ruin from the main reception area. They have cleared out some of the trees in the jungle off the lobby and are constructing a few more walking paths. 4) The wildlife, are the main draw to this resort for us. You can take an early morning walk and stand beside some of the deer wandering the grounds. The pen is still there, but they roam most of the day. Watching the monkeys fly out of the trees to land in another tree was quite entertaining, even when they missed the branch and landed somewhere else in the tree. Funny to watch them go tree to tree and then climb up onto the buildings. They also have some of the most amazingly colored birds. 5) We stayed in building 20 which is where we usually stay. The rooms are upgraded, new beds, showers are re-tiled. There are also USB charging ports. I believe 4 plugs in them, so you can plug in a bunch of devices to re-charge overnight. You only need your USB cable, not the whole adapter. In all, nothing to prevent me from coming back but it is losing some of that special feeling.
