“This Hotel is a DUMP! You can tell the Hotel is CHEAP!! TERRIBLE WIFI and WATER ISSUES”

This Hotel is Operated like a Dump. The WIFI is TERRIBLE. Internet kept goinging out of service every day when I was there. They kept blaming the Internet Provider. It was obvious that it wasnt because you had to always enter a new Code. YES a CODE. They give you a 6 Digit Code on a Piece of paper and you keep having to call the Front Desk to get a new code every day. With the WIFI always breaking, sometimes you need to call two to three times a day. When you call, the staff are always overwhelmed and are never polite You can tell that the owners of this Hotel are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. On our last day, the Rooms had no Running Water. We had to buy water to brush our teeth. The Breakfast was not good. There was a foul smell in the bathroom which smelt like it was coming from the cesspit. The Parking Garage was closed so they need to park your car in another building and with Traffic, you would wait almost 15 minutes. Staff are unfriendly. Its not their fault, Im sure its the owners. I advise you to not stay here. For the $20.00 more, stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, or DoubleTree. This stay would go down in history as one of my worst. Oh yes, one more thing there is no POOL. Instead there are two discos that attract the wierdest people. By the way, I stay at hotels about 10 days a month so please take my word when I say this hotel is Terrible!!

    “Poor Customer Service”

Customer Service is horrible. I had an issue with a taxi driver and they did not help at all. Only one water bottle on the day of arrival and was hard, as when I got back from the day trips, there was no water in the room and had to go to supermarket at night to buy water since in the hotel was overly priced. The room is old and there is no mini bar or any other amenity. The sink was leaking and there was no sign about it. Room Service is horrible and food is not good. I regret my stay in the hotel.

    “Occidental Hotel Panama City, Panama”

We stayed at this hotel for nine days, and found it comfortable, but not enough lighting in the room specially above the TV area, difficult to look for things at night. We were in group of 3 couples and they failed to put us all on the same floor, which made it difficult to visit, as the hotel elevator would work only for the floor that you stayed at, so a lot of times we ended up climbing two flights of floors. We had booked two weeks in advance and still the rooms were on different floors. Only one water bottle on the day of arrival and was hard, as when we got back from the day trips, there was no water in the room and had to go to supermarket at night to buy water. I found this silly, as when you are in same room for 9 days the water should be there everyday. Same for coffee, the machine is there but no coffee except for the first day, not sure how they expect you to find the same coffee capsules for the type of the coffee machine they provided!! Most of the 4* hotels provide coffee and water on daily basis. No body lotion, so take your own if you plan to stay at this hotel. Rooms were clean and shower was working, well but the water in the wash basin was just trickling. Provided with extra towels when ever we needed them. We were on the 4th floor and noticed that the hall way not vacuumed from the day we arrived to the day we left as I noticed the same pieces of small dirt everyday. Rest of the areas were clean. No lock on the door of ladies washroom in the lobby. We were all Vegetarians and Gustavo in the restaurant made special effort to provide us with a vegetarian dish at breakfast. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall a comfortable, friendly and well situated hotel, easy to walk to restaurants and safe to walk in the vicinity at night.

    “Occidental RUINED my trip.”

Our trip started out hectic, as our first plane was nearly 2 hours late, leaving us only an hour to navigate through customs in Guadalajara, Mexico. Therefore, we missed our flight, which they were able to reschedule and still get us to our connecting flight, and final destination on time. Once we arrived to our booked hotel, Occidental, we were told that 2 days ago they had an incident in which their pipes exploded, and caused issues with their rooms on one side of the hotel. Unfortunately, this was the side in which our rooms were booked. They stated that in addition to the piping issues, there was no air conditioning on this side of the hotel as well. They did not have any additional rooms to book us in or upgrade us to, so instead they purchased us a room at the Novotel, another hotel in Panama city, which they stated was of the same caliber, and had us taxied there. As you can imagine, this issue made me and my accompanying guest extremely upset. First of all, if there was an issue with our rooms at the Occidental, that occurred 2 days prior to us arriving, then we should have been notified by phone or email PRIOR to our arrival. Occidental didn't notify us or bookit.com. Had we known there was an issue with our rooms, we could have appropriately rebooked at a hotel of our choice and to our standards. Instead we were notified upon arrival and had no other choice but to stay at the Novotel. We specifically chose the Occidental because of the cuisine they offered as well as the night club, and we also planned our vacation around being in the area of this particular hotel. The Occidental was in walking distance to many food choices and casinos, which is why we didnt get a rental car, however we were in an area much different than what we expected. We did not feel comfortable being placed in a new hotel in an area that we hadn't researched, however we had no choice. To make matters worse, when we asked for any type of receipt or confirmation of our booking at Novotel, they told us that they could not provide us with any receipt, confirmation, or documents of our stay since the rooms where purchased by the Occidental. Novotel told us that the Occidental was the only one who could provide us with booking information or receipts. Once given this information, I called Occidental and they said they had no record of our booking and also told us that all of their rooms where fully functional and there was no piping issues that they had ever experienced. Now this is skeptical, because at this point we felt as though we had been lied to, and cheated out of our money. We immediately caught a cab to the Occidental to retrieve any information that we could on our prior booking. They couldn't even find our names in the system, and had no receipts or confirmation of our hotel booking with Novotel. That's just ridiculous. How do you pay to put a party of 3 in a whole new hotel and don't keep anything on file. The best advice they gave was to come back at 8am, which was not possible as we had a flight to catch that morning. With no luck, we finally asked to take a tour of the room in which we originally booked as we wanted to verify that we were receiving the same quality at Novotel as what we paid for at the Occidental. They didn't have any of the Superior Double (the rooms in which we originally booked) available for viewing so instead they showed us the Standard, which is a step down. This room was way more renovated, bigger, and of better quality than our rooms at the Novotel. This is not the end of our troubles. We booked the roundtrip hotel airport shuttle with Decameron Explorer. It was fine getting us to our supposed hotel, Occidental , however when it was time to leave we had to stay up at all hours of the night to figure out how to get in contact with them to let them know that our hotel was now different. I called countless times and sent an email, but received no reply. Thankfully the manager at the Novotel was able to get ahold of someone within the company to pick us up. I don't feel like this is something that we should have to do. And through all this Chaos, we received no forms of communication from the booking agency, about a change in our rooms or transportation, because they weren't notified. This was a horrible experience, and we weren't even compensated in the least bit by this hotel for THEIR mistake. Bookit.com did a great job trying to help us work with this hotel, but I WILL NEVER RECCOMEND this hotel, or wish this experience on anyone.

    “Good place for the price”

The Occidental is a good hotel for the price. It is in a safe location, walking distance to the subway, restaurants etc. We stayed Sunday- Tuesday and the hotel was quite busy. Mostly South American travellers during our stay. The concierge is helpful however are the only ones who can communicate in English. I found it was still easy to get by. There are many taxis available in the area and is a short drive from casco as well as the canal. Good choice !
