    “Excellent family facilities”

I am very fond of the hotels in the Barcelo group and this one has been on the hit list for some time. It is one of the more expensive hotels in the group, being one of the Royal Hideaway Hotels, so I was expecting something very special. We were restricted to one specific week that we could travel and I was aware that we would be travelling in the height of the summer season, so my main concern was about finding somewhere that had good facilities for my 8 year old daughter, but at the same time some peace and quiet and a bit of luxury for my husband and I. I really didn't want somewhere where you spend the week fighting to get served at the bars and restaurants, and ending up with the last sunbeds in the complex. We got exactly what we wanted at the Aisa Gardens. The whole place is very clean and luxurious and you are made to feel like a VIP guest from the moment you arrive. Everyone makes an effort to make you feel important and special. The rooms are beautiful and the beds were amazingly comfortable. The pools are probably the best I have seen in any hotel. One of the things I particularly liked is that the area round the pool (and the pool itself) is split level. This means that there is no one single open space for sunbeds but instead there are lots of smaller spaces giving a greater degree of privacy and a sense of quiet. The sunbeds were also very comfy and there was a large area of the pool that was 1 meter in depth meaning that my 8 year old, who isn't the greatest swimmer, could safely play in the pool without me worrying too much. The thing I need to highlight in particular, because it didn't really come across in some of the other reviews, is the standard of the mini club/kids club, as this is by far the best I have come across. Basically, the mini club is a childcare facility whereby you can drop your kids off and not worry about their safety. The facility itself is very safe and the staff take their jobs very seriously. A child cannot leave the place without the parents picking them up or the staff first contacting the parents. On one occasion, my daughter wanted to get her swim suit from me for an activity they were doing so one of the staff, along with the hotel manager, walked with her around the complex until she found me, and then waited to walk her back. Normally my daughter can take or leave the kids clubs, but she literally couldn't wait to get there each day. Some of the other reviews do mention that the kids club is very Spanish orientated which is true, as the majority of guests are Spanish, but this didn't deter my daughter one bit and all of the staff can speak at least a little bit of English with some speaking very good English. The facility was open 11:00 - 13:00, 15:00- 19:00 and then 20:00 - 23:00. The children had the option of eating together in the evening leaving the parents to dine together. I didn't take my daughter on holiday to palm her off onto the kids club staff but she was more interested in spending time with them than with us. One of the activities involved a massive inflatable water slide which was put up in the garden of the kids club and another was rehearsing a Peter Pan show throughout the week which was then performed by the children and staff at the end of the week. My daughter absolutely loved it, so much so that she was crying her eyes out when we left and I had to promise her we could return. The hotel have clearly recognised that if they take good care of the children, the parents will enjoy their holiday too and this was certainly the case. I'm not sure whether the opening times and activities remain the same throughout the year but I am sure the child friendly ethos of the hotel will be consistent. My only slight negative is that I found the in-hotel prices quite steep. It is an expensive hotel to begin with and I guess the guests tend to be those who can afford a little extra but regardless of what you can afford, you shouldn't be expected to pay above the odds. I normally like to have a massage whilst on holiday but the cheapest one was 106 euro and I just could't justify it. Similarly paying 4.50 euro for a can of coke is simply unfair. However, we did have a hotel credit applied to our bill for booking through Barcelo which softened the blow a little. Would it stop me staying here again? No it wouldn't, but it was a niggle all the same. We will be staying here again and would recommend it to anyone, but if you are a family with young children, and you are looking for a holiday where you can relax and enjoy yourself with the kids safely looked after and having fun, then I would definitely recommend it.

“All that is missing is Basil (Fawlty)”

We arrived on an early evening flight and were looking forward to getting settled and going out for dinner on our first night. We booked the hotel car to pick us up at the airport - the driver was lovely, but clueless, had us chasing around the airport trying to find the car because he forgot where he parked and couldn’t find the carpark. Eventually - after a lot of chasing around - managed to find his car and got back to the hotel. On the way back to the hotel he told us it was his first time picking up at the airport. At check-in they found our reservation using our name, then asked us for our ‘print out receipt’. Who uses ‘print out receipt’ in 2017?! We told him we didn’t have a print out. He told us we couldn’t check in without it, and so we had to try and find the email confirmation of our booking (despite him being able to see our booking on his computer system) which we could forward to him and he would print out for us. We eventually located the email, but couldn’t send it to him because of a wifi issue and then he decided - after spending at least 10 minutes tell us about the importance of having a print out - that we didn’t actually need it and checked us in anyway. He told us that our room was ‘strictly no smoking’. Great - I hate ‘smoking rooms’ anyway, and was looking forward to a fresh room. Our room STANK of stale cigarettes. We just wanted to get changed and out for dinner, but there was no iron in the room for us to iron our clothes. Phoned reception and asked for an iron to be sent to the room “Oh, we don’t have any irons. We do have a laundry service who can pick up your clothes, iron them and return them later’. I explained that I didn’t want someone I don’t know ironing my clothes - who knows if they will do it properly, and damage the clothing. Besides, we were trying to unpack quickly and get out for dinner - but no, he was adamant that we couldn’t have an iron delivered to the room. I started to get dressed in creased clothes that I had just taken out of my suitcase, then got really annoyed and phoned back. It was the same guy who picked up the phone but this time I was bordering on irate and all of a sudden, surprisingly, they did have an iron they could send to the room. The rooms are OK - they photograph VERY well however and look much more tired in real life. Overall, I am dissatisfied by first impressions. The place looks much better in the photographs and the staff, which mostly nice enough, are utterly clueless and the place is completely mismanaged. They need to up their game, big time.

“Excellent hotel very peaceful and perfect for kids”

We stayed here in July 2017 returning for the 6th time. Standards were as good as ever, few changes since our last visit - mini bar in the room is a lot more limited and you have to pay a 200 euro deposit to get a DVD player for the kids in the room but toiletries in the rooms are a nicer. Hotel was spotlessly clean as usual and the food was to a very high standard. Bar was extremely quiet in the evening, no more than a handful of people meaning the evenings are very quiet. Would definitely return again.

    “Almost....”

Asia Gardens ia a wonderful oasis in the Alicante area - right between Aliccante and Altea. Its mountanous location provides a secluded and comfortable atmosphere, with a general high level of comfort.the pool areas and the gardens are very well kept, and the staff is very well trained and presents a comfortable vibe it really looks like a small, asian paradise in the middle of Spain. One might be a bit reserved booking this place, due to its close proximity to Benidorm (10 minute drive) but no, you only see Benidorm from a far, and the atmosphere is nothing like its famous charter destination neighbour... the view is actually nice - looking at the tall buildings and the ocean from a distance. We have stayed at many 5 star resorts all over the world. This is probably as good as it gets in this part of Spain. Barcelo has quality marked to it in almost every way. The rooms are comfortable, but should be at this price. The eestaurants arw good - not great. The Thai was a major dissapointment to us - but we have been living and traveling in Bangkok and other parts of Asia so i guess this is as clise as it gets outside the major cities in Spain. I missed a beach like the one barcelo has on Santi Petri - and i rate the restaurants in st. Petri better. Overall a great place to relax in this part of Spain. We enjoyed it - would go back. Pools are great.
