“Occidental is not Barceló... and you can tell”

Like the managers stated many times in other comments, the hotel is an Occidental (the "poor brother" of Barcelo) and you can easily see why... Starting with the good news: facilities are amazing. The lobby is wonderful, swimming pools are large, you can use the tennis/paddle courts, minigolf, a small gaming room... and even though only a few respect the non-reserve of deckchairs rule (please, people, show some respect to the other guests) there is enough for everyone. Also, I didnt see any cuckroaches, which, being in the Canary Islands, it is very good news. Hotel is very clean too. Also, even though it is a windy area, the hotel is built in a way that protects you from the strong winds, to a certain extaint at least. Sorry, but there is also bad news: food is terrible. Really. All inclusive resorts do not usually have the best food, but in this case it is the worse I've ever eaten. Cold, overcooked, monotonous, the lowest possible quality... Waiters seem to be always busy, you need to, literally, run behind them to have a bottle of water. Dont be fooled by the "luxury" word in their website. There is no such thing. I was surprised that they allowed some people selling bags and purses of High End brands inside the hotel. Why was I? Because they were obviously fake, isnt that illegal?? If your room is close to the swimming pool (pretty much all of them are) it is very likely that you will be disturbed by the animation team (who gave them so powerful speakers??). Many "sea view" rooms have also "factory views" of 2 windmills and factory pipes near by. It may ruin your extra-paid view. Hotel is in the middle of nowhere, a rental car is a must have if you plan on doing something outside. The small beach behind is not worth going. No sand, only rocks. Of course, you must take into consideration that Occidental is cheaper than Barceló. If the (not huge) price difference is something you can afford, I strongly advise to go to a Barceló instead.

“Great hotel , food not so good! ”

Hotel and grounds were great, as the title states the food was a let down. The room I stayed in was lovely with a great view out to the sea. We complained about the balcony door, but were told that the hotel is getting the balcony doors refurbished gradually and that you have a latch to lock it, but no one can get in. At lunch and dinner in the restaurant I witnessed a chef handle raw and cooked meats with the same utensils and not washing their hands. At breakfast they had out of date yoghurts on display and when I notified staff all I got was OOOPS. And the pizzas were out of packets, not what you expect from a 4* hotel. No complaints about the pool bar, we had lunch there each day.

    “Occidental Lanzarote Playa”

Myself and my partner absolutely loved our week away at Occidental Lanzarote Playa. On first entrance, our words were "wow" as the decor and architecture of this building are beautiful - forward onto our room and it was spotless and this was kept up through the whole week, bringing us new towels everyday also. We did have one slight issue within our room, but it was sorted within 10 minutes and was still offered to change rooms which we didn't. The reception staff, bar staff and restaurant staff are all extremely polite and helpful - some of the friendliest people i've ever met! The Animation Team are absolutely amazing, a great laugh, friendly personalities and a credit to the hotel - they make EVERYONE feel like home and have lots of activities throughout the day and organised entertainment for night time. The food is great, with plenty of choice and a few home comforts like pizza, chips etc, however it does get repetitive but from being abroad plenty of times, thats just the case with all inclusive hotels. The cocktails are amazing, i didn't drink anything else throughout the nights i was here! All in all, a brilliant stay at the Occidental Lanzarote Playa Hotel.

    “Nice relaxing break”

This is a lovely hotel, beautiful surroundings, very clean and excellent views from our room. Although we always found something to eat in the restaurant I'm afraid that the presentation somewhat let the main courses down. Salads were plentiful as were the desserts but I struggled with the rest of the offerings. Free bus into town/beach was a nice touch and with great service.

    “Top Hotel”

Hotel is modern and friendly. With shops onsite and close by. The beach outside is very rocky. I wore beach shoes but still got cut up traversing the rocks. The staff are friendly. The staff are constantly cleaning. Our room was cleaned properly daily. They had a high level of cleanliness throughout the complex. Amazing and delicious food. Different food themes are offered every other day. And local produce is used. They were constantly refreshing and cleaning the buffet. And if there's something not on offer you can ask and they will do their best to make it, really top service. During the day the activities were varied and catered for everyone i.e water polo, aqua spinning and bingo. José and Martina were excellent entertainment staff. The evening entertainment was varied with classical singing one night and magicians the next. Touch screens around the hotel keeps you up to date on what's happening. They have rescued cats that they keep on the complex. I'm moderately allergic but I was fine. I popped into a few local hotels when we went out to the market and I have to say they all paled in comparison. We are going to return next year with family.
