“OK but no longer a s cheap as it should be”

We stayed at the Occidental Isla Cristina for a week with Saga. the hotel is fine , bit tired but not bad. The staff all very helpful and efficient. The town is interesting and close by , the beach is lovely albeit empty at this time of year , apart from one day the weather was very good. The great drawback is the food . It was , at best ordinary at worst poor. Plenty of it but not of great quality . We were there for a special valentines weekend when the chefs showed just what they can do as the Spanish arrived in happy parties to celebrate. But one day in 6 was a bad show. Unlike many of the other Saga Hotels we have stayed at we will not be going back to this one. A winter week in Spain used to be cheap so the services and food, especially on an all inclusive weren't as important as the weather . They are not cheap any longer so we expect a better standard of food than we got last week .

“Great 4 star hotel and great value in February.”

We stayed half-board for a couple of nights here in Spain, after being in Portugal just over the border. Overall, a lovely break. Don't expect gourmet food quality in the buffet restaurant. It's plentiful but adequate. Do go and walk a little and try the local restaurants and tapas bars for inexpensive real Spanish food.

    “Sunshine and seagulls”

My room is fine. It’s not a sea view room, so is quiet cold. I think it would be great in the summer when sea view rooms would get very hot. When I get cold there is a large bath with plenty of hot water to warm me up, and I keep warm by climbing into the most comfortable bed I have every had in a hotel. The food is sub-standard. This is not the fault of the cooking staff, as at the weekend we had a valentines dinner and the hotel was full of local people. The food was excellent. However, as soon as the number of guests fall the food sinks to very low standards. Management is very mean. You will not starve, as if you can’t find anything you like for your main course there is usually rice pudding, which is good. The animation team are good. They keep our spirits up with games. However, the outside area is very dirty. The main pool is closed and given over to sea gulls which drink and clean themselves, and of course deposit their poo all over the place. It gets wash away every week, but in the mean time is an unhealthy dirty mess. There is a good sitting area away from the pool, and the lounge and bar are very good. As for Ilsa Cristina, it has a wonderful beach with lots of board walks. The views are great, if you risk looking at them, for if the hotel is sea gull poo paradise, the prom and board walks are dog poo heaven. This is a resort greatly in need of tender loving care. I’m here for another two weeks, and I will enjoy the walking, sleeping and free bar. I doubt if I will gain weight.

Dear Mr. Geoff, First of all I would like to thank you for choosing Occidental Isla Cristina and for describing your experience with us. Thank you as well for the positive comments regarding our bed, animation team and location. Regarding the food, we follow a menu in our buffet in order to offer a big variety of fishes, meats, rice, pasta, vegetables, stews, soups, salads and desserts. Please we kindly ask you to let us know what did you miss in a our buffet during your meals and we will do our best to include it in our menu. I would like to apologize for the incoveniences that the seagulls may caused you. As we inform the seagulls is a protected animal in the area and we try to keep the area clean as soon as we notice it is needed. When the main swimming pool opens and our guests start using it they fly away. Please we are at your disposal for anything you may need and we wish you a wonderful rest of stay, Best regards Marcos Alonso General Manager

    “A lovely place to stay”

This hotel has wonderful staff. Although this area speaks little English they always are most helpful and welcoming. We were greeted by lovely Mohammed who smiled and worked so hard along with the lovely cleaners to make this an extra special holiday.

    “Great stay”

There are plenty of lovely walks nearby. The shopping centre is nice and clean with plenty of shops. Bus station a short walk from the hotel and timetable is available at reception. The hotel complex is very well kept with a choice of two swimming pools one with easy access for the disabled. Lots of activities during the day and entertainment at night. Overall a lovely hotel to stay at.
