    “Wonderful holiday”

We paid extra for a sea view room for our 28 day holiday and it was well worth it. Our room had a lovely sea and pool view. The room itself was spacious, clean and tidy, the bed and pillows were as good as we have at home and ensured a decent nights sleep. We were on an all inclusive for food and drinks from 11am - 11pm. There was tons of choice for food at all meal times and the quality was good. There was entertainment every night, this would be either a quiz, bingo, dj disco, live music or magician. The live music and dj were particularly good and we had a fantastic time most nights. All in all a wonderful holiday and although we don't usually go back to the same hotels/destinations I would make an exception for this hotel.

    “Three-Day Stay in Isla Christina”

Friendly staff, good location in Isla Christina with nice ocean views from top floor rooms. Didn't use the restaurants so can't comment on food quality. Good fitness facility. The hotel does need a modern design upgrade, which has been done on some rooms but not the apartment we stayed in and paid higher rate for. Indeed, many of the floor tiles in the room and hallways were basically unglued and moved when walking over them...they have obviously done their time. The wooden boardwalks to and along the beach are in serious state of disrepair, but the town of Isla Christina may not have the funds to repair / upgrade them so they probably won't be improved any time soon.... Overall, we enjoyed our stay there but would like to see upgrades to the hotel decor before considering returning.

Dear Mr. David, Thank you for your comment. First of all, we regret that the decoration of the hotel has not lived up to your expectations. As you have seen, the reception area, our lobby bar and the hotel entrance are being renovated to improve the appearance of the area. We have 3 years with an intense reform in all apartments and rooms with which we hope to finish this process as soon as possible. In reference to the tiles we will report to our maintenance team to take it into account and solve it as soon as possible. We regret the incident. Secondly, in relation to access to the beach, inform you that the Hotel has transferred this type of incident to the City Hall of Isla Cristina to implement the necessary actions. On the other hand, we welcome your positive comments regarding staff, location and gym. Thank you again for your comment and we hope to see you again for the Hotel Sincerely Lucia Capeáns Deputy Manager Occidental Isla Cristina

“Beautiful hotel - perfect for a winter break”

Despite some slight misgivings having read previous reviews, we were absolutely delighted by this hotel. All the staff were just so kind to us (special mention for Maria who always remembered our drinks order). The hotel is spotlessly clean and extremely well maintained. There were works being done to the reception area at the time of our stay, but these were relatively unobtrusive and merely served to reinforce our opinion of the hotel's strong customer service and presentation ethic. We upgraded to a pool view room (1231 on the second floor), which also had a sea view and was definitely worth the small extra cost. On a sunny day the balcony was warm and comfortable, even in January. The twin beds (pushed together), are extremely comfortable, the room was spacious, and the bathroom had all the necessary amenities. It was cleaned daily, and the sheets changed after a week, or as necessary e.g. when we managed to spill some coffee on the sheet one day. Towels are changed with high frequency. There's a fridge in the room, which can be stocked as a minibar, but we kept our water bottle and milk in there. The evening entertainment was not always to our taste, and was on quite late - perhaps our only small issue, but to be honest we tended to go to the Saga Lounge after dinner so not a great loss to us. The food in the restaurant was varied, very tasty and included a lot of typical Andalucian specialities which we really enjoyed. On one weekend only there was a large influx of spanish people, but this did not affect our experience and we didn't have to queue unnecessarily for either the restaurant or the bar at any time. So, to Isla Cristina itself. The hotel has a beachfront location, accessible via a back door from the pool area. A short walk leads to a boardwalk, connecting to a beach side (through the dunes) boardwalk. This goes quite a way and can be difficult to navigate as the boards are uneven and in our opinion in need of maintenance and improvement. For this reason we avoided using this, and walked around the pavement area instead to access the raised walkway across the estruary - about 5 minutes from the hotel. The estruary and beach are a bird watchers paradise, as are many of the areas around Isla Cristina, from the Marismas to the Donana National Park. A major criticism of these and the other 'protected' areas we saw is that there seems to be little effort made to manage accumulation of rubbish, and we felt very concerned that the local authorities did not address this. Similarly, the spanish people, although clearly a nation of dog lovers, are not educated to pick up after their dogs, so the streets, boardwalk and beach was from time to time tricky to navigate. These last issues need to be addressed as they are offputting to visitors, and perhaps more concerning, will in the longer term affect the diverse flora and fauna to be found in this area. This was our first Saga holiday, and we cannot thank Chris Duncombe, our local representative enough for his kindness, presence and the help he gave to us from day one - he is absolutely exceptional and a great advertisment for Saga. In conclusion, we would definitely return to this hotel, but would welcome any efforts made both by Saga and the local hotels (regardless of ownership) to 'clean up' Isla Cristina and make the area even more welcoming to visitors.

    “Visit to Isla Cristina ”

Stayed here on Saga holiday. Rep. Chris was really good as we had issues getting there. Lots to eat, although it was better at the weekend when the Spanish were there. Resort was quieter and a proper Spanish town but cheaper because of that. True about dog poo everywhere. Was irritated by people laying out their towels, going to breakfast and then coming back about 2pm and nobody questioned it. Would not be good in high season. Entertainment was pitched at Spanish families so was not what I was expecting. Drinks were ok although they did run out on 2 evenings. Tuk tuk ride was good including tapas at Quay. Went on trip to Seville, which was good but don’t bother with Huelva. Trip to Portugal was also ok. Would I return to hotel? Probably.

    “Nice hotel”

The hotel was very busy with lots of Spanish pensioners. Need to get to the restaurant early to avoid queues. The hotel was in a nice area with lots of interesting walks - very much spoiled by having streets and footpaths covered in dog poo everywhere. The Spanish there have lots of dogs, and they just leave the poo wherever the dog does it. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Our room was above the reception and near the entertainment - very noisy.
