“Great hotel but don't assume the rooms you see are what you get”

We arrived at the hotel around 8:15pm, check in was friendly and all was well. When we got to our family room there were only 2 beds and a sofa with no extra covers. The room was small, dated and nothing like the pictures we had seen when we booked off the website. Went to reception and was told the other rooms that we were expecting were more expensive, so looks like half the rooms have been done up and ours not being one of them. We arranged for an exra bed to be put in our room while we had dinner. We stayed out after, and had some drinks before returning late that night. When we got in there was a small bed waiting in the tiny room. Just as I was laying my on bed checking some e-mails, my other half fetched me out saying there was some cockroaches in the room. it was now 12.am and our 8 year old was asleep, so I stayed in the room while she went to reception. They gave us another room for the night and said to come back in the morning, so now at 12.30am we had to pack our cases again and move to another room, very frustrating when you have already unpacked and set the safe up with you code ect. The room we was moved to was like the ones we saw on the website when we booked. The kind of new look room we expected. Next morning they told us we could now stay in there and all was well. The staff are all pretty good but the restaurant really lets itself down. It is completly under staffed, There is certain food running out and serving dishes sat empty sometimes 15 minutes before it is re-filled, One night there was a big queue for some pizza, almost 20 minutes before it was refilled, with just 1 pizza, instantly snapped up by the 7 people already waiting. This happened almost every day, you could be getting some breakfast and the sausage section was empty and after 5-10 minutes you give up. You need more staff to keep an eye on things before they run out. Also regarding the restaurant, there is not enough tables cleared quick enough and trying to find a table for 3 people is hard. I suggest the staff go and stay in the Barcelo hotel santiago in Tenerife to see how a restaurant should be run. Main reason we booked a Barcelo is we assume the standards are all the same. The bars are also a little strange if you are all inclusive, the staff don't really want to serve you and just point to the free beer pump that is next to the bar and the selection of spirits you just help yourself to. I have never known this before in any all inclusive hotel until now.I don;t mind helping myself to drinks in the snack bar, but expect to be served at night, even if I am not paying. All in all it was a good holiday and it would not stop me returning one day, although we try not to go to the same place too many times. Don't let this review put you off going because it really is a nice hotel.

Dear Robert, Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent holiday experience among us, our main goal being to ensure we keep on delivering unforgettable holiday experiences to our guests, your comments are crucial in this process therefore we highly value your time and constructive critics We are very sorry that we weren´t able to make your room request come true and would like to take the opportunity to explain that we always allocate our rooms in accordance with the room category reserved, never allocating room´s of inferior quality from the one booked as they are decisive to the cost of your stay. Nevertheless it is our goal to achieve maximum customer satisfaction, and when we can we always try to make special wishes come true, and are very glad to read that the second room allocated was of your pleasantness. We have taken good note of your remark on the queues at times in our restaurant and regret reading your dissatisfaction, our shifts are studied to ensure an impeccable service throughout the day and are reinforced during peak hours, nevertheless we commit to improve on this aspect of our services so as to avoid receiving this kind of feedback in the future. On the other hand, we are glad to read that the check in was nice and smooth and that you found he hote to be nice and of your pleasantness. Kind regards, The Management

    “Clean, Functional and Friendly”

A weeks stay with family. 1/2 Board. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Rooms are very clean too, but as it’s a big concrete building the rooms are noisy. So neighbours flushing toilet, tinkling and worse are loud. They happily moved out first room as a buzzing every 10 minutes could be heard and kept us awake. Use the safe too. First room ground floor facing out had broken window lock and latch. Second room first floor had balcony doors with broken catch. Pools are big, enough. But the heated pool is the smaller kids slide pool and the main pool in Feb is not heated and was too cold. So only a few kids using it. The restaurant was very clean, fast and efficient for such a big place too. As with all that cater for all inclusive you can still get bored after a few days. The vegetarian option displayed on the electronic notice board made us laugh. When you hit vegetarian button you get a list of salad ingredient. So if you’re a veggie salad and a dish such as lentils are the order of the day. You get what you pay for and we didn’t expect anymore from a large resort hotel. The drinks are generous even when not all inclusive too. The surrounding area is a shock as not been to Lanzarote. A view of a very toxic smoke stacks from a big industry complex about 2k away dominates the view west on the coast. The yellow toxic smoke is grim and belches out night and day. Their isn’t any beach in this area and so we hired bikes and rode back west past the airport and main town. This area is lovely with big sandy beaches and pretty towns. The main town sea front is lovely too. If you want to eat out then their isn’t anywhere close so a bike ride or car up the coast is required to a town. Their is a small bar in the complex car park for snacks, beer, pool and lots of football watchers. Its a good hotel for what it is. The area is not great and I would recommend staying west of the airport as it’s much better for the beaches and amenities if you don’t want to stay 24-7 by the pool. 5 stars staff, 4 Stars to the hotel and 1 star for the area of Lanzarote.

Dear guest, We greatly appreciate the time you spent to review your recent experience in our hotel, at Occidental we always strive to exceed guests' expectations and your comments will help our teams reaching that goal. Since guest safety is one of our top priorities, proper cleaning, maintenance and inspections are performed at all of our hotels to ensure optimal security at the rooms. Although to guarantee the safekeeping of any valuable personal belongings, we recommend requesting our safe service for future stays. We are sorry that our location is not exactly what you were looking for in terms of proximity to the city centre. Many guests love our location because it is set away from the noisier city life, yet close enough that a short car or bus trip takes them to most of the popular spots of the island. In addition, we also offer a courtesy bus per hour to the centre and rest of the beaches of the area. We do our utmost to ensure that our guests can enjoy an enriching dining experience in an unrivaled setting and with an excellent service. Our restaurant team will continue working to surprise you with delicious international and local dishes on your next visit. On the other hand we thank you for pointing out the kindness and enthusiasm of our staff, their friendliness and helpfulness being our hotels’ main strength we will definitely congratulate them all on your behalf for their contribution to your wellbeing whilst staying among us. “Very nice public areas ...However bedrooms and corridors could do with a revamp!”

My husband and I have just returned from this resort at the weekend. It was a beautiful holiday lovely place nice people very friendly great staff. The resort for its size could definitely do with an indoor pool and more bar areas just to give some variation. The food was nice and varied although a little bland. The bedrooms are a good size however a makeover is well overdue as they have dark green dingy walls artexed and for such a nice hotel on the exterior I think a little attention to the bedrooms would be good. The rooms however are very clean and the staff are fantastic and clean the rooms every day. i would have given their hotel 4.5 if not for the gloomy dark olandings and the bedroom decor .

    “Group visit”

We visited this hotel as a group this is the review from one of the group of which there were six. On arrival to the airport bag pickup was quick and simple and there was plenty of taxi availability which took 15 mins to the hotel at a cost of 18.40 euro we gave 20 euro 4 of the group arrived separately this was for 2 people. The reception was very quick efficient and friendly and we were asked if we needed help with our luggage which we declined as it was easy enough to find the route with only two small sets of stairs, there are lifts but access to most of the rooms involved stairs I believe block 1 did not involve stairs to the lower level. The rooms that we were allocated were on block 5 and all next to each other on the first floor we did not have a sea view but we did not request one our outlook had trees in front and to one side which gave us a degree of privacy whilst still affording us a view of the pool areas and facilities. The rooms were very good we were lucky and got a family room which afforded us a large amount of space consisting of a large living and sitting space with a settee armchair and a long dressing table it also contained a large built in wardrobe there are no tea making facilities attached to the room but kettles can be hired for a refundable deposit of 20 euro, when we enquired they also stated plus 2 euro a day which was non refundable having said that a friend said they were not charged that fee at the end of there stay. The bathroom had a shower over the bath with a rain shower head and a lower shower head as well the sink area was well laid out with plenty of room to lay out your things the towels were changed 6 times during our 10 day stay. The bedroom was huge and one wall was covered with built in wardrobes there was more then ample hanging space and shelving the bed was massive and very comfortable the pillows were also good but that is personal preference there were built in bedside lights with a separate switch for reading on either side and a window to the outside plus a dressing table and chair the rooms were cleaned daily and the bedding changed 4 times during our stay. The balcony had 2 comfy chairs with footstools and was plenty large enough and safe for children with adult supervision. The restaurant area was at the basement level which was accessed by stairs and lift, the food choice was endless I personally did not have a meal that I did not enjoy in my ten day stay, the staff were friendly and helpful and they tried very hard to seat the party together most of the time, this got a little difficult towards the end of our stay as the school holidays came into play and you needed to pick your times with care to get the best from it,my only comment would be the single cup teapots are rubbish and are best avoided as most of it will find its way onto the tablecloths. The pool areas were good one heated to 17deg one to 23deg and a separate area for adults if required with a pool when we arrived and for the first 7 day’s their were not many guests as this changed their remained good availability for beds and seating area’s,the pool food and drink areas were kept well stocked and the staff were great, the entertainment staff tried to cater for everyone and they were what you expect on these holidays they asked if you would like to join in and left you alone if you did not. The evening entertainment was normal children’s clubs early doors followed by the adult acts later these left something to be desired but the again I was not in the theatre and it was what you expect altogether a very enjoyable experience and I would like to thank the staff and management alike for making my stay a pleasant one kind regards DG.
