    “Al inclusive...”

    Hotel is a bit off the main road so its hard to go anywere for shopping etc, hotel facility is clean with beautiful garden surrounded by two-storey houses Poolarea with access to a poolbar and a smaller restaurant to get som food/snacks is clean but the music from the poolbar did disturb. Seafront and the beach(clean beach) is close to the poolarea with showers. Rooms are clean and and with AC that worked fine, the wi-fi (that you got to pay extra to have access to) doesnt work in the room or balcony. Not worth the money you spend on it. In evening they have performing on a stage was ok (if you can spannish) but loud, secluded area to talk and have a drink in evening/night time= mission impossible.

    “Solid place but it is not 5 stars”

    Expect a very nice hotel with a decent buffet and bar service. The activities were good and fortunately it wasn’t crowded for us. Make sure to spend some time at the beach and pool. Plenty of iguanas around the property and also a hidden bird sanctuary (but all in cages).

    “3 day stay”

    I would like to begin with a few comments that we read from previous recent guests. The resort does not meet the standards of a 4 star hotel. We got here after staying at the Villa Catletas in Jaco. That resort definitely was a 4 star. The Barcelo does not meet the standards of even other Barcelo hotels we have stayed in including Hautuco, Mexico. The plumbing totally quit during our stay. We called and they said the whole resort was having problems. No water on the cold side for showers or shaving in the sink. The safe would not work and they came 2 times to fix it and it still quit working. As others have said, the bars were overcrowded and lacked adequate staff. We waited extended periods of time for a drink. No alcohol in the rooms for a evening drink on the balcony. The balconies had open lattice between them, so no privacy. Only one pool had a swim up bar and it was 3 deep for a drink. The beach was wonderful, but only had 3rd rate chaise chairs instead of comfortable padded chairs and no cabanas. Terrible use of the beautiful beach area. The wifi was not included, so we paid $25 for 3 days. However, they said it didn't have wifi to the rooms. Only to the reception area and the pool area. Well, the wifi didn't work at the pool area that had the swim up bar. We asked why and were told it included most of the pool area. They also said that the internet tech people didn't know why the wifi doesn't work in the rooms. Food at the steak/seafood restaurant was great. But the only other restaurant was a sushi restaurant, which we don't like. When we arrived we were told that we could not make a restaurant reservation for our 1st night because it was booked. So the next day st 9 am, we went to reserve the next 2 nights restaurant and was told it was booked full. They said there was a long line at 8 am that took all the available spots. Well, we complained that we were only there for 3 days so they said to come back in an hour and they would see if they could accommodate us. We returned and got reservations for the 2 nights. The whole place was not kept clean. Lots of dirt, rubbish on the sidewalks and carpet areas. Nightly entertainment was sub par. 2nd night was bingo in Spanish. We are Americans so that night was wasted on entertainment. Service in all areas was great. The hired help worked very hard to take care of you. We want to especially thank Nino for his personal efforts to make sure we were happy with the service. Especially when we had dinner at the steak/seafood restaurant. Had asked us at lunch if we would be there that night and had a special table setting for us including fresh flowers and candles. It was a very special and romantic dinner thanks to his efforts. We travel extensively and expect way more for a 4 star hotel. Whoever rates this hotel needs to come back and reevaluate it. We won't be back here again.

    “PLEASE READ ALL REVIEWS - DON'T GO THERE!!!! There are thieves at every level there!”

    I went with my family there a year ago and since I had cash with me, I decided to pay in full as soon as we arrived so I would not keep the money in the safe or on me. We had to sign the credit card voucher like you do at any hotel in the world. but in this case they never shredded it after we checked out. Once we got home we found out that they ran the transaction and when we called the manager and explain the situation, he said I had to prove that I paid cash. Then I asked them for a copy of the video, since they have cameras there and they provide one from a distance and you really can't see it clear when they charged us again for a two day stay. It is disappointing that even the manager is covering up this scams and his employee "Daniela" took the cash and charged us twice. Costa Rica has way better places like this beach. Do not go there....you will be sorry!

    “Keep your valuables string tied to you at all times, if you get robbed is your own fault ...”

    ... or at least that is what your staff told my wife mere minutes ago, I've stayed at your hotel a couple of times in the past ... never a problem but this time my wife's family decided to take a mini vacation to recharge batteries before the end of the year ... I have to work so I stayed and sent them off, well... according to her account on how things happened, apparently while staying at the pool , she blinked and someone snatched her camera, when she brought the issue to the staff she was told she should have kept her valuables at sight at all times, blaming her for the situation ... this is an ongoing situation and I'm waiting to see how this issue is resolved ... I'll be posting what the outcome was as soon as you resolve this shameful situation.
