    “Belated Review- 25 wedding Anniversary”

We stayed at the Barcelo for our 25th wedding anniversary and decided to stay at the Barcelo as we splurged and upgraded to have a jacuzzi on our balcony, was a great choice. We have been to many southern AI locations and i found this resort to be too large for my liking, but people were well dispersed considering the size of the resort. We arrived with some 'extras' in our room which was a very nice surprise. Not sure if it was because we had the VIP or because we mentioned it was our 25th anniversary, but was still a nice touch. The food everywhere was great, so no worries there. But i wanted to post this review as i wanted to thank the manager of the adult section who made our anniversary very special, not sure if he still works at this resort anymore but i still want to thank him. We priced out a nice dinner on the beach for our anniversary only to find out it was way overpriced for what you get. However, my husband surprised me by taking me to the restaurant in the adult section and the manager made this so special for us and went above and beyond. The food was great, and they made sure that we had a 'private' section so we could share our special anniversary. I wanted to surprise my husband by playing our wedding song and to have a private dance, and the manager actually held my device to play the music while my husband and i had our special moment. He even played the song twice so we could have another dance. I have never been to a place where individuals help to make a special moment so special that it is so memorable even a few years later. I know this review isn't going to help everyone looking for the review they need, but i wanted to share this as it was very special to me and my husband, and a few years later, i still think about that and really appreciate how the manager really went above and beyond.

    “Beautiful resorts”

We just returned from a 4 night stay. First of all I would suggest getting in early as the resort is so big that it it difficult to get your bearings in the dark. It isn’t bad once you cN see where everything was located. Room- we were in room 5266, beautiful ocean view. Our friends were on the ground and although they loved having recliners on their patio it was harder for them to see the ocean related to shrubbery. We had 2 chairs and a hot tub which we never used. I sat on the patio a lot because of the wonderful breeze and view. There were 3 of us in this room. 2 double beds and a cot which was actually comfortable. We couldn’t figure out the tv and the safe stopped working our last day but we didn’t call to have it checked on so no fault of the resort. The bathroom is open, it is separated by hanging mirrors to the sleeping space so modesty is not easy. The bathroom is a single unit with a door with smoked glass open on the top and Bottom. No fan so let’s just say there is no secret as to what you are doing in there from anyone in the room. Although I couldn’t find anywhere that it was offered there was a hair dryer in the room. For example if you need to dry your hair, anyone sleeping in the room will hear because again, no door. The shower was fine, little alcove in there for towels so you can dry off in there. Again, you walk out of shower into open so anyone in room can see you. The door to room slams shut. So when people leave next door to you you are aware. Beach- always seem to be chairs available and seaweed there but not to bad and they work hard to keep it at bay. Sand is firm and white and great to walk on and you have a long span to walk on! Food-I find the buffets at all inclusive a are pretty much the same, not great but ok and the same holds true for this. We ate at the steak house, Surf and turf is what I got. The surf was like 6 pieces of shrimp. The steak was small but delicious. For a salad they have you go up to a buffet to get your own salad which I wasn’t really a fan of. We had a very attentive waiter which made the situation good. The 2nd night we ate at the seafood place, very disappointing. Again you had to go up to get your own salad. The lobster bisque was brown with no visible lobster and tasted as it looked. My friends got the clam chowder with 1 clam in shell but the rest all liquid. I got the salmon which was good not great. Being premium meant we could eat at the “coral” for breakfast buffet but we found it to be no different from the regular buffet. We sat outside at the buffet everyday which was fantastic! Pools- beautiful, water a little cool but you got used to it quickly. Drinks- no diet drinks available, just coke. The alcoholic drinks weren’t that great overall. Customer service- we stayed in a premium room. Check in and out was easy. I can’t say we were quite sure what else the premium Got us except the room and the lounge. There was no special pool for premium. They kept food in the premium lounge there which was fair but no alcohol except for Champagne to make mimosas. There is definitely a language barrier if you are American. That is clearly no fault of the resort but you should be aware as it definitely made it hard to communicate with your waiter and bartender. Our biggest shock was that no one comes around to offer you drinks at the pool or beach. There are swim up bars in some of the pools but I would rather be waited on! This definitely kept us from drinking and as it is a family resort maybe that is their intent. Staff are all friendly but I wouldn’t say over welcoming. Casino- I tried to play slots but they didn’t take US dollars and there was no one there at the time To help me transfer my money. Maybe a sign I wasn’t meant to play? Overall a very nice resort. Beautiful and clean. We have been to all inclusives now 4 times, always different places. Despite my review seeming negative, this resort may be great for you depending on why you are going. We like to float in the pool and have our drinks brought to us. The communication barrier was unexpected but again we are the visitors. Rev

    “Stay away from this resort”

Where to start . This is not a true all inclusive . Reception staff is the worst I have ever seen in my life . They have an attitude problem and need some training or better fire them all and replace with properly trained deserving people . I am 100 percent confident there are more better folks out there who can do their job . They make you wait like anything for simple things and then show their freaking attitude . Other staffs are courteous Atleast . Also they have some funny reservation rules for restaurants and even WiFi is not free . Can you imagine they claim to be a 5 star resort and cannot even provide you good connectivity . Spend your hard earned money in some other resort , not here for sure . You will waste your vacation begging the reception folks for even small things

“Excellent Stay. Will go back again”

The beach is absolutely beautiful! The food was good. Some restaurants were better than others. The Mexican restaurant was the best al la carte for service and food. The adult pool was also excellent if you needed a bit of shade. You need to rent the cabana a day ahead. The service at the adult pool bar was exceptional. Alvin is the manager. All of his people were outstanding. The whole resort was very clean and tidy. The main restaurant, just off the pool needs more people I think for filling water glasses and coffee requests.
