    “Great family resort”

Perfect for families of 5 with a separate room for kids (junior family suite) Best kids club, our kids 3, 7,9 never liked a kids club before but were begging to go daily to this one (very friendly staff and a spacious facility with a park with lots of shade). Lots of variety for kids (small water park, mini golf, bowling) Biggest downside is no drink service by the pools or on the beach and therefore long line up at the bars and no snack bars/restaurants.

“The Good, the Bad, the Ugly”

Just got back from Barcelo Bavaro Palace and wanted to give an honest review. If one goes during spring break go the week before Easter. More families instead of high school and college spring breakers. Wasn’t nearly as crowded as I was reading from previous reviewers. Now the scoop: Beautiful property, bits it’s massive. Between all 3 properties in one I believe it has over 1000 rooms. We stayed in the Palace section, which is the main buildings in the middle. Adults only is on one far side and the Family side is on opposite end by golf course. If you have small kids and will be utilizing water parks stay on the Family side. If you want to be closer to the main pools and restaurants stay in the Palace. For a more quite section stay closer to Adults side in Building 1. We stayed in this building and most nights all we heard was the breeze going through the Palm trees. Most buildings in the junior suites section will face the ocean. There is not a “true” oceanfront room as those rooms face a sidewalk that separate the sand and your balcony. You can though walk out from your patio to the beach in seconds. If you have 2nd floor though you will still have to walk through the rooms corridor to the outside. While the property is beautiful there were 3 things about the resort which didn’t make for the best of holidays. 1 was the food. All the restaurants were by reservation only. We checked in and the only places during the entire week we could get into were the seafood restaurant (Coral), the Steakhouse (Santa Fe), and the golf course restaurant (Hoyo 90, I think). The Hoyo had good food, the two others were not great. The Miramar buffet was decent enough, the Sports Bar was disgusting. For an all inclusive I actually came home and found I lost 5 pounds.... 2. Service- you found several servers who really enjoyed their jobs, one concierge in the junior suites(Jensen) who was amazing, and the excursions gentleman (forgot his name) who was very accommodating. Besides these individuals most were not friendly at all. The Gift Shop gals especially were some of the most angry people we’ve come across. It seemed like everyone had a chip on their shoulders or could careless. When you take in consideration that with air, transfers, and hotel we paid close to $5k for 6 nights one would expect better service. I even brought cash to tip for service and these monies were taken with a scowl most time. We are a happy family, but after awhile I stopped giving cash and received the same level of service. 3. Cleanliness- our room wasn’t the most cleaned room even when we checked in. There were food stains on the wall. The linens were stained. Beach towels were never changed until I asked. Shower had grim all over. Not to be grippy, but when you pay thousands of dollars for a vacation you want the basics taken care of. Overall, yes we had the time of our lives, but mostly it was spending time as a family together. Did I love our trip, yes. Would I return, probably not. I still haven’t found that wonderful family place to return year after year to....

    “Amazing”

We had the best time. The kids couldn’t get enough of the pool. The staff was friendly and attentive. The upkeep of the hotel and the grounds was spectacular. The food in this all inclusive hotel was really good but there’s a catch. Here’s my take on comments that say the food is mediocre. I think they’re right and wrong. I agree some of the food isn’t great. But the trick is to get a small bite of different foods. There will be a few things that will be very very tasty. The omelettes were really good. The beef and goat meat if you’re a meet lover were outstanding. And the food and produce just feel real and organically grown and raised. This is our second time in a Barceló resort. The first time was in Cancun. Two things really need improvement and happened both times. One is the check in and out processes. They take a really long time and there’s just too much redundancy. The passport checks, the filling out of forms or paperwork and the general “slowness” of the staff. I’m not sure if it’s a cultural thing or we’re just so used to efficiency and a “chop chop” let’s go way of life and need to slow down. The second thing is the command of the English language is a real drag. The communication is difficult. I think the experience would be much fuller with more personal interaction. I was interested in learning about the DR and the people’s way of life but it’s almost impossible to find a staff person you can strike out a conversation with. Again they’re very nice and attentive but this makes the experience much less personal. I’d certainly recommend the Barceló. We’d go back.

Food quality could have been better. You will be charged for missed room cards. Staff were a bit rude when entering Bavaro Beach section buffets, asking you to leave! In general, I would recommend this resort.

    “Normal all inclusive hotel”

I have to admit personally i expected more. The hotel is beautiful really big, which means that a loot of people go, that brings problem with the table servings, every time we wanted to eat we had to ask for the glasses, napkins, forks and knifes!! And have to wait looong until they brought them... food it was ok, breakfast was the worst part for me, not much. They don’t serve jelly’s or cream cheese!!!! You have many activities to do in the hotel with the entertainment team but you dont know until you go to the place they are. Also you have things to do water sports which is great! The bars are really good! They have a loot of things but if you wanted for eg, corona beer or absolut vodka you had to pay them apart. Thematic restaurants: the mexican, the worst ever! Bad attention, not nice food... the french is excellent, just take in count you hace to pay to go to it, except you are “premium level”. Japanese great, horrible sushi, but the other things awesome! The spanish, my favourite!!! Great attention, you must try the sangria and “crema catalana” for dessert! I think that were all of them. Make your reservations to try all of them!! You can go to the theatre at night but is sooooi boring! Those people dont have any energy! Michael Jackson’s show and the circle one where really good. I recomend the hotel, the beach is the best, you can walk long distances, i leave some pictures!
