    “If I could give zero I would”

    We reserved a king bed in August. The other people we came here with had no problem getting their king in the tropical building. We got two double beds right in front of the kid pool so we got to hear kids screaming at 0800. I have two kids and left them at home for time with my husband and we can’t even sleep in the same bed. I called the premium check in to see if I could get a king size bed and no one would answer the phone so I had to walk all the way back to be told no. Then they call me the next morning to say I can move in a day but I have to check out at 1100, leave my stuff with the bell boy for four hours, and check back in at 3. Additionally, our tiny beds are not comfortable at all. The rooms are dated and it doesn’t feel like the $350/night we spent. On top of that, we tried to get a reservation for dinner the night we arrived and were essentially laughed at. We tried the separate restaurants and had no luck so we ate at the buffet. It was terrible. I personally didn’t like the hair in my food. All the food was barely warm at best. Bottom line, go somewhere else for sure.

Regarding your comments about your stay we want to clarify the following points: 1. When a request is made for the type of bed, location, etc ... all are taken into consideration when assigning the rooms and, as long as the availability and occupancy of the hotel allows, such requests may be fulfilled. The type of bed is not confirmed in any reservation. 2. Today, 18th of february, In the morning, our Premium Level staff contacted you to offer you, as they did yesterday night, a room change for tomorrow due to the availability of rooms. You were explained the procedure to follow, being a negative response. Minutes later, you called us to confirm the change for tomorrow, which has already been scheduled. 3. Dinners in specialty restaurants, as indicated on our website, are subject to availability and on the day of check-in, it is usually a bit difficult to find reservations. Our Premium Level staff, when you were checking in, called the restaurants in front of you to check the availability of spaces in any of the restaurants. As there was no positive response, you asked if you could stop by the restaurants and see if there was any space available. 4. We regret the incident that you describe yesterday's dinner at the buffet. We would have loved to have that comment at the time to verify what happened "in situ". Feel free to contact our reception management team for any comments or assistance. We wish you an excellent stay. Regards

    “Room downgrade”

    We booked our room at the Colonial Hotel and were moved to the Beach upon arrival. This switch both took us further away from our Wedding group but was also a substantial downgrade as the Colonial is much nicer. We spent extra money to stay at the Colonial and were very disappointed. We were told that if we book through their website they have the option to move us. No discount was offered. Several members of our group had a similar experience.

    “Vacation”

    Danny Munoz at the tennis court booking was great! He was very friendly and provided great customer service!Thanks Danny! Resort is well laid out with shade and sunshine. Great beach front and some snorkeling area.

    “Wonderful Winter Break”

    Barcelo Maya Colonial was the setting for my nephew’s destination wedding. It did not disappoint. Staff was attentive to all of our needs. The event went off without a hitch. There were a few stormy days which resulted in the beach being a bit rocky. We had a ground floor room which seemed a bit musty despite fans and air conditioning. The quality of the food at the Al Fuente, Tokyo, and Mexico Lindo restaurants is very good. I think some guests would appreciate knowing there is a good quality house wine available. The property is immaculate.

    “Exceptional Staff:)”

    Our second time to this resort did not disappoint. We have since been to the Dominican, Costa Rica and Jamaica and although we had a good vacation each time, it did not compare to our trip to Mexico. Since our trip to the Barcelo Colonial was so good, we went back. And what places it so far above the rest is the exceptional staff. Everyone has a smile and is happy to help with any request. Stand outs were Victor Riuas, Daniel Camaal and Kareli Galeana Genaro at the bar and buffet. The housekeeping staff all have lovely smiles and greetings. The lifeguard at the pool expertly dealt with a little injury I sustained. And last but not least, a huge thank you to Sergio Poot for going way above and beyond to make our vacation the most memorable one yet! I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone!
