    “Large Beautiful well organized resort.”

    I was in another part of the resort but due to declining customers I got to have an upgrade to the Palace section. First impression was very impressive lobby area! To my room was a longer walk, a little shorter the next day in daylight finding short cuts. My room was much nicer than the Caribe, which had a good room. Loved the shower area! The rooms are quiet and comfortable. Slept great on beds in both sections. There is a quiet adults pool nearby, with plenty of space and a bar. The restaurant's and dining were very good lots of options! It was a longer walk to eat and to the beach, from my room here. Due to Covid19, spring break wasn't very busy, the resort was nearly empty by weeks end. So didn't get to try certain restaurants, but had tried the seafood one and it was great. Had lobster. There are so many things to do at this huge resort, yes some do cost extra. If they didn't they would be too crowded. Lots of shopping on the property as well. However you can take a Collectivo to Playa or Tulum etc for a few bucks. Safe and easy. Say where you are going getting on and pay as you exit. Find along Hwy outside gates. I wish the resort would direct those wading or playjng in the ocean to move away from where the turtles hang out. Hard to snorkel and less clarity due to stirred up sand. Also teach guest DON'T TOUCH turtles or coral!

    “Great 2nd Visit”

    Our family was here in June and enjoyed it so much that we decided to come back for a second visit. We typically hop around to other resorts because there are so many in the area. However, this is definately one of our favorites! We like the mega resorts because it tends to feel a little less crowded. The beach was in much better condition than our last visit and we were able to swim with the turtles this time. The buffet and the a la carte restaurants were very good and the staff was very friendly. Our rooms were ready upon arrival and were kept clean for the entire week we were there. The biggest upgrade we noticed since our last visit was the new bracelets. They were so much more comfortable than the plastic ones they used to use. And being able to use them as your room key was so convenient. We were very fortunate to get this vacation in, as the corona virus was running through the U.S. and things were a little uncertain. We enjoyed our time here and will return again.

    “Wonderful”

    We visit Barcelo Riviera maya for past 9 years and always stay at Colonial. This time, due to corona virus, the resort was forced to close. We were moved to the Palace for few days before we returned to Canada after 2 weeks stay. We enjoyed the ala carte dinning, the French bistro was outstanding. Food, service...just like Paris. Buffet breakfast on the terrace was beautiful, great selection on food. We hope to return next year.

    “Definitely not a 5 star”

    Check in was supposed to be at 3pm. We ended up finally checking in at 7pm. Waste of the first night. The reason for late check in was because the room they gave us was moldy,even the sheets were moist because of the mold. The check-in counter responded to this issue by telling us that if we find another room it will be two single beds put together. I don't think anyone would feel they are staying at a five star resort sleeping on two single beds that separate in the middle. If I payed for a king, that's what I should get, I have heard of upgrading guests due to insufficient resources not downgrading them. Finally they found us a room that had no mold,at the very last inch of the resort, furthest away from the lobby, meanwhile all the rooms closest to the lobby were empty, but we had to pay extra for them. They should have upgraded us the moment they sent us to 2 moldy rooms. Buffet had amazing food. However staff never seemed to be happy, even while receiving tips. There was never a time where my coffee was served at the table, and if I asked for milk that I got the milk without having to go hunt them down. By the end of the week I just had my coffee black. This is just to say the very least of their hospitality. Don't bother with the "a la carte" with this resort, it was un edible. On a positive note, the food at the buffet was amazing. In general,it is a beautiful resort, many things to do, and if you are not bothered by service or quality of food at the restaurants, you might enjoy this visit. In my opinion however, they do not come close to a five star rating. They are 3 stars (average) at most.

    “Nice resort. Friendly staff. Surf ride. Water park. Catamaran.”

    Nice pools and beach with some fish and snorkeling right off beach. Buffet was okay. Table service meals better. Water sports desk was great. Yelsi took us sailing and was nice experience. Carlos. Alejandro. Alexander and Issay also great. Surf ride at the water park was a highlight. One of the staff took my five year old on boogie board a few times and had a great time. All staff there were really nice and fun. Ramon. Brenda. Barbara. Alin. Armando. And Nestor were all working that day and we’re really cool.
