    “Superb food!”

The title really says it for us. So much good quality food that you would have expected from a Spanish hotel. However, if you want a lively resort or have your children looked after for some time during the day it’s not really the place for you. Very quiet and the animation team wasn’t really up to the mark for us. Room was cramped with no space between the three beds, they were all pushed together but the housekeeping staff did an excellent job. Hotel was clean and just over the road from one of the best beaches we’ve ever been to. The trip to Seville was disappointing as the rep told us it took two hours which turned into three and a quarter hour treck! If you like a warm pool don’t go here. The sea was warmer and did spoil our holiday a bit as our son loves to swim but it was just too cold. Food superb as was the cleanliness and if you do go here you must take the bus to Ayamonte and the ferry to Portugal. Just great and cheap too. Transfer was reasonable but usual chaos in Faro. Not many British at hotel which was ok too!

“Very Nice BUT Very Little To Do!”

I spend a pleasant week at this hotel with my family (Wife & two boys 17, 15) Its a lovely hotel sat on a beautiful stretch of sandy beach, We had two twin rooms & although small they were both clean & all round fairly good. The hotel was in good order, nice pool etc. & the staff were all friendly & polite. We toke the All Inclusive option & I did feel the hotel had 'Shot themselves in the foot' with this one... AI guests at mealtimes serve themselves from a tap of one cheap white/red wine or larger which made me feel far less than special! This self service followed through to the Bars where there was added local drinks & cocktails available on AI, but table service was just once per evening, as soon as the staff realized we were AI they stopped serving us at our table & I had to resort to going to the bar myself or de-hydrate!!! (This again made me feel like a second class guest with the 'on the spot' paying guests getting ALL the staffs attention (Absurd as I pay much more in total than those guests but I was left feeling treated as 'money banked already'). On that note it seems a lot of the locals from the surrounding apartments flood the place to eat and/or use the amenities as there must have been some special deal locally, day tickets or something (Most have no rooms so spend a lot of time waiting for holiday makers to open the main gate with their room key). Around the hotel is very little as its located in a residential area, we quickly became bored but the only excursions were weak at best & one which we wanted to consider booking from the TUI rep was the excursion to Seville but at 75 Euros each this was a joke! I found the rep generally uninterested in promoting the trips & when we wanted to book the waterpark in Portugal there was no number for her locally & the only number available was one in the UK so I didn't bother as I expected it to be too complex at short notice. If you work in the city and want a quite holiday this might suit but if you have teenagers wanting entertaining... Excursions, Trips,Jet Ski's, Shops, Pubs & Clubs etc. then look elsewhere. Finally the food was generally quite nice & felt a little more Spanish than most hotels probably because of the local tastes & considerable 'Local Spanish' presence amongst the clientele. (Barcelo *PLEASE USE LESS SALT IN THE COOKING) I would say its probably more a Three Star Hotel because of the lack of things offered by the hotel included in AI & the nightly entertainment was only fair to average.

    “3 star”

We stayed at this hotel last year and were looking forward to our return. Unfortunately, we had a number of complaints/issues during our stay. I am vegetarian Andy the only thing I could eat ALL WEEK was salad (there was also chips and pasta for Veges the management told me! I don’t like either). Vegetables were cooked on same pans/grills as meat so I couldn’t even eat the grilled veg. Food was not labels correctly for example “vegetable and rice” actually contained meat. Fish dishes often contained ham. On one occasion my husband found a large piece of cling film in his food - neither the staff, chef or management found this a problem. Some of the restaurant staff were very rude. My husband hand his eggs chucked on his plate (just because he asked for a fresh one to be cooked) another guest asked for an omelette and was completely ignored, he waited 20 minutes and then gave up. The quality of food has gone down since last year. We also had issues with our room getting cleaned. We paid €700 to upgrade to a suite with tea and coffee facilities however (despite asking every day at reception) our cups were not changed once so we only had one coffee in the room. Towels were not swapped for days until we left them a room door. Pool etiquette is strange to say the least. Once or twice a day the life guards go around all sun beds and issue vacant beds with a warning stating that towels will be removed in the next hour. In theory this sounds good (for those who put towels down in morning and don’t arrive back TIL late in day - although we don’t feel this was a problem at this hotel) BUT you got a ticket even if you were in the pool. A lady I was doing a yoga class with had her towel removed whilst participating in this hotel activity! I also feel this shouldn’t be a job for life guards; who is guarding the lives of people in the pool whilst they are issuing these tickets???? Whilst we found some staff friendly, some were also extremely rude. The reception, customer relations and management were not helpful in resolving issues. (I was told it is different management from last year). Despite the beautiful location of this hotel, we will not be returning next year.

“A delightful resort in Isla Canela”

A delightful resort in Isla Canela. Would recommend for both couples and families with children... Pros - Great customer service, in particular Angela, who helped us change rooms. Professional and polite. - Rooms are lovely, very clean. - The staff work tirelessly and are so polite. - We went half board and though previous reviews refer to the “canteen like” restaurant, yes it can get a bit noisy, but the food is absolutely fine. Fairly standard for buffet food. For breakfast you can sit outside and enjoy the views! - Several little beach bars/ restaurants for lunch or dinner. €3 for a beer. A lovely little Italian too! - The beach is across the road and is €15 for 2 sun loungers - Beautiful wide sandy beach - You can generally get a pool sun lounger without having to get up early and claim one! - Evening entertainment and afternoon entertainment. - We arrived after dinner had finished being served and the staff had put some food aside for us which was very considerate! - Not very touristy, mainly locals staying at the resort. Cons - None that we could think of perhaps the fairly long drive from Faro airport to the resort (just under an hour) - If you are looking for a lively party resort this is perhaps not for you, if you’re looking for a relaxing resort with great service then this is the place for you!
