    “Management could easily make 4star”

Just returned from 9 days at Barcelo Aruba. I cannot say enough about the help. Paris, bartender, Edguard captain in Mexican restaurant, Helen at seafood restaurant, and Nalia beach bar server, did all they could to make your stay comfortable. Rooms clean, bed comfy. Food average. Now to reality. If you wore the white wrist band you were second class. Every day they ran out of the popular liquor or drinks. 5 am was the time you needed to be up to get an umbrella. The last straw was when we were told they could not fill up mugs. Really 85 and drinks do not last without insulated mugs. We stay a couple times at allinclusives, this by far was our worst stay. If management would treat all guest as they treat the gold and green bands people, the hotel would sell out weekly. Wake up management, you have it all, location and staff.....don't be cheap a.....

“Break from the snow to the sun”

This was my first trip to Aruba and it was wonderful. So true it is the "Happy Island." The room was very nice, food , many options. The Staff really made sure we were taken care of and happy. Barcelo was worth the trip. Loved it. Would definitely return and recommend.

    “Needs a lot of work”

I will tell you that my arrival and first experience left a lot to be desired. I was sent up to 2 dirty rooms after 4 pm. They wanted me to wait for them to clean them but I insisted we be moved. Dinner in the Caribbean seafood was horrible as were the drinks at the pool bar when they had liquor. Not to say that Eugene F&B, did not see that the problem was rectified, but an all inclusive running out of liquor daily???? Reservations for restaurants was an absolute horror, thankfully, Martin Middeldorp, manager really saw to us getting satisfactory reservations. Must try Mexican restaurant and margaritas with Edgard. They allow day passes for cruise ship passengers and that was horrible. Overtook the pool bar and we became second class citizens. Impossible to get a seat at beach or pool if not up but 5 am to leave towels. All in all, the Barcelo has a lot to offer. This new owner needs to upgrade food, beverages and be more aware of customer needs. The hotel staff in general were wonderful but not so sure I would go back anytime in the near future.

    “It's 4 star hotel, but definitely not 5 ...”

The hotel is good 4 star. No more... period. May be 3.5 -4. But not 5...Unfortunately the price was like 5 + at Caribbean area. The folk is 60 years old and older, but its not a problem. The problem that drinks and meal are very limited for 5 star range. You have to pay 16$ if you want to add lobster to your dinner. there is no really good food, no real steak, no variety of seafood as expected. I think the management is trying to safe money on everything. The staff is hard working, very busy, the hotel is very clean. I saw bartender working at this hot weather from 7 am till 7 pm, the same person, its ridiculous, awful attitude to employees. There are nice buildings and beach, weather is beautiful, pool is cool. Hopefully the management will improve service as promised according the payment received.

    “Lizards and Birds, oh my!”

Pros: The staff is amazingly friendly, and the premises are exceptionally clean. We traveled with a toddler who made a crazy mess at every meal trying to throw food to the birds and lizards who hang out underfoot, and every time we tried to clean up after her we were shoo'd away and told to enjoy our vacation or something else similar. (We did tip accordingly.) There was a singer in the lounge every night and it was a good unwinding time, nothing too raucous which was good for my family. There's a watersports rental place right in front of the hotel, and we saw a lot of people making use of that. Middle ground: Buffet food at both buffets had some good stuff, but not much variety over the week. We decided instead of treating it like a buffet to choose 1 meat, 1 starch and 1 veggie at each meal and that helped with the lack of variety a lot because we did get a different meal each day.... did soup and salad for lunch, etc. You have to eat it right there, so there's no option to grab a burger and head back to the beach unless you leave the resort. The specialty restaurants had better food, but nothing toddler friendly. They do have cribs to give you, but they're very small, my 13 month old kept rolling over and hitting the bars and waking up. Cons: The biggest reason we would not choose to come back is the umbrella situation. They have limited palapuas on the beach and they're all pretty much all reserved by 7-8am with beach towels. If you're traveling with a baby and take a while to get moving in the morning or just don't get up that early on vacation you're pretty much out of luck for the day, shade wise, and we were traveling with a toddler from Maryland who wasn't going to tolerate that much sun. A place to rent a normal beach umbrella would have made a world of difference for us. We had a little better luck at the pool, but definitely didn't travel 1900 miles for a pool (plus the baby has more fun in the sand for sure, we can't really let her run around a pool.) Also, wifi is 45 dollars per device for the week, which seems insane for all the money you pay to be there. All in all, we probably would not return to this facility even though it had some really great parts because we were disappointed in the amount of beach time we didn't get. Usually we do naptime right on the beach in the shade, but we had to take her up to the room and shower the sand off her, etc. Lastly, we could probably have snuck out at 7am and reserved a spot, but our door was sticky and you kinda had to slam it closed, so there was no way to do that without waking up the baby 2 hours before she normally gets up, which as every parent knows, would totally ruin your day.
