    “a friendly place to stay.”

    Arenas Blancas was a great place to be and all the staff try very hard to make your stay a pleasant one. Be prepared for bland food, no spicing and overcooked meat dishes. Very salty in taste. Maid service is good but not as good as it could be. Bottom bed sheet not changed during my 4 week stay. Music in afternoon and evening at pool side is much too loud. Fantastic beach and Pool. Need more beach or pool side service.

    “2nd trip to Varadero”

    This was our second visit to varadero & the Barcelo Solymar and we couldn't be happier!! This hotel is great!! Service, food, rooms, pools, beach, staff.. Everything is amazing!! We will deffinately be returning again. And since we were returning guest we received a special dinner & a gift in our room ! Highly recommend this property!

    “POOR SERVICE, BUT STILL HAD FUN”

    PROS: - young age group (22-32) - you'll meet a lot of people as the guests are very friendly - you'll meet a lot of Canadians - definitely a party resort (pool bar is open until 11:45pm and they always play good music, beach parties are fun too) - hotel is an open concept and is very spacious - the lobby has a bar as well and sometimes live music - beach is super clean, no fish in water - water activities are included, they play nice music - you have access to two hotels (my friend liked the food and pools at arenas blancas WAY better) - location was good, Havana Club was down the road (less than 5 mins walk) and was close to a lot of markets and bars CONS: - staff is extremely rude, every time we needed help with something, they weren't helpful a lot and they simply didn't care - our room's door wouldn't lock and we asked them to fix it and they didnt - the maid stole food from our room and we heard some stole shoes and money from other people, so make sure you lock up everything before you leave the room!! - our shower was also broken - we stayed 7 nights and they cleaned our room twice. the rest of the nights we had to request them to clean it several times a day. - only gave 1 water bottle per room to share which is not enough and sometimes they didnt give us that either - the staff only work on tips, if you want anything done, you HAVE to tip - the wifi isn't the best, it is not guaranteed service - the food was absolutely terrible. I would suggest bringing your own pasta sauce and spices - AC also stopped working near the end of our stay - also theres no privacy in the hotel room. many times hotel staff would come into our room while we were sleeping. or wake us up early morning. - you have to exchange your own towels and the towel service closes at 5pm. so if you are in the pool or beach past 5 with a wet towel, you cannot exchange it Overall, my friend had a lot of fun because of the people we met at the hotel and the excursions we went on. However, the hotel was absolutely terrible. Their service is not even close to a Canadian hotel. We had a terrible experience with their management as they were unwilling to help us get water, clean towels or clean our rooms. It was my first time going to Cuba but I do not think I will return. It is nice for a one time experience and if you like to party. But please do not come to this hotel if you are expecting good food or good service. This hotel is simply a place to meet fun people and party. Would not recommend it for anyone that wants a relaxing and quiet experience because it is loud at night.

While I respect and acknowledge your post regarding our hotel, I also want to submit my opinion that i don't believe your review reflects an overall accurate and fair review. I'm unaware of and don't have any knowledge of any incident like you said: "- the maid stole food from our room and we heard some stole shoes and money from other people, so make sure you lock up everything before you leave the room!!" - I can´t accept this opinion about my staff. Sorry, we had no reports about that from you and from any other guests. About your shower was broken, we did not have any technician reports. Our Customer Service team is very efficient and this is highly acknowledged by every person who has visited our Resort, so, an issued complaint at the end of the trip does not show to be productive, because there is no way of solving any of those issues which should have been taken worked out since the very beginning. I'm also at a complete loss to address your comments about the water and the beach towels. Perhaps, if you would have contacted us, we could have assisted you with this concern. We could have also assisted you with a room or hotel change if the room you were in did not meet your expectations. We do offer 24 hours a day full service and our staff are always willing to assist our guests regardless of the hour. It seems as if our hotel fell short of your expectations. Although I regret that was the case, I'm very confident that we offer very clean and comfortable guest rooms, reasonably priced, in a great location, with a team of associates that really care about the guest experience. What upsets me most is the service that you received. It is not what we aim for and serves as a reminder that Barceló training and staff management never ends. The warmth and hospitality are characteristics that distinguish the Cubans par excellence, we are sure to erase any negative image that you may have taken from our Resort. Here at Barceló Solymar Arenas Blancas Resort we work with many different customer nationalities, and our gastronomical offer it's made to satisfy everyone, we can understand that you didn't like it, but, with all our respect, we don't think correct to use the expression "absolutely terrible" to refer to our food. While I definitely respect and want to hear your opinions and perceptions, there were a couple of mentions that need some clarification. We are a Resort for families, and we are working every day to ensure that the families as yours, have everything they need to have a great holiday. Our Resort it´s consider for Sunwing TTOO - A Resort for children: "Smile family", and our cooks do special food for babies if it's requested. However, we are not comparable to the more traditional brand style hotels that you might be accustomed to (like in Canadá). You also referenced "also theres no privacy in the hotel room". I wish I had more information to provide you with an answer or explanation as to what might have been the issue. Overall, it is clear that Hotel Barceló Solymar Arenas Blancas Resort was not a good fit for your expectations. That is very unfortunate and I'm sorry that was the case as we always want our guests to feel their experience with us was a positive one. It is our hope that you enjoyed visiting Varadero, the weather, the beach, trips, shopping and restaurants our destination has to offer.     “Sad to come home!”

    This was our second time in Varadero, first time at the Barcelo Solymar and we will most definitely come back. We had a great time and were treated fantastic. We had a poolside bungalow which was spacious and private. The air conditioner did not work our first day but the maid was quick to have maintenance come and look at it. The food was not fantastic but it was better than other resorts in Cuba. The snack bar had pizza and poutine, hot dogs and burgers that were quite tasty. There was not a lot of poolside or beach entertainment but there was a lot to do up town. The resort is beach side and the beach is amazing! White sand and very clean. It was a younger crowd at this resort (late 20's-late 30's) which we enjoyed and everyone was very friendly, made friends for life :) The Beatles bar, Calle 62 and Havana night club are walking distance and were lots of fun and we spend most every night there. All in all we really enjoyed this resort and this trip. We have been to Cuba four times and this time was the icing on the cake for us. Cannot wait to return.

    “Worst hotel ever”

    We had booked into this hotel to check it out before bringing a friend who had never been to Cuba before. Glad we did it was horrible. From out of date rooms, not stocked with what the was advertised. To run down resort, only one in five resort lights working (had to use flashlight on cell phone). Worst of all bugs in the food! Also constant power and water outages. Had to get water from the pool to flush the toilet. If you want a good holiday avoid this place.
