“Both of us got sick while there and for a couple of weeks when returned home”

This hotel has very large ground, the beaches are nice. The rooms are average our shower leaked water all over the floor and there was mold in the shower stall area. Hardly no one spoke English including the staff. If your from Russia you might enjoy this resort as the majority of people did not speak or understand English. The service in the buffet was terrible sometimes no one approached asking if you wanted something to drink this includes the simple task of getting a glass of water. We met one family from Canada and they also had diarrhea for days. We drank bottled water but between the food and the food getting washed with their water it did not sit well with us. The employees were nice and bar service was good.

    “Absolutely incredible !!!”

Traveled Jan 2018 . The resort was amazing . Staff were all very pleasant and helpful . Service was extraordinary , you were never without a drink (unless you wanted to be) . The cleanliness of this resort was impeccable , even the pool side bathrooms (which is rare) . Every thing you needed was within a close proximity ( lobby/buffet/entertainment/pool/beach ) . The attached family side resort was easily accessible ( trolley or a covered walkway ) and the staff and service there was the same high quality . The theater and disco there were huge and very modern . The 24 hour sports bar and casino were ideal for those late night adventures . We would not hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone . We will definitely be returning to this tropical paradise .

    “Good but old resort”

We stayed for 9 days in January 2018.The weather was good. The facility is old and it reflects everywhere (lobby, bars, room). The bathroom needs a big update, especially the shower (a lot of leakage around the joints). The buffets are average to good. The restaurants on the Beach Adult side are decent (order the Chateaubriand at Chez Gourmet, medium, because medium rare would be to rare).Pasta dishes were not good. You would have to pay extra for most restaurants on the Palace side ($15-30) ,except for the SantaFe steakhouse or Coral which are not worth going. Their house wines are not drinkable unless you can get the Premium ones. The staff are friendly but there is definitely a language barrier. The clientele changed as we met a lot of Russians in the early part of January, then we saw more North American, Europeans later. Everyone was nice. The drinks quality at the bars are so so. Definitely easier access to beach chair on the adult side than the Palace one (very crowded). There is No gym or Spa on the Beach Adult side (you would have to go to the Palace which is a good 10-15 min walk). Don’t miss the Rock Band show. It’s a blast. Golf is very nice . They have a special package (US$225 for 4 rounds, cart and range balls included). The Barcelo Pina drink at the Pina bar to the west end is good , with $5 charge.

    “Barcelo Barvaro Beach Adults only”

Absolutely perfect. Great beach, plenty of chairs, beautiful pool, and outstanding display food that was delicious. I have never written a review but have traveled a lot with tours and also all inclusive resorts , but I felt compelled to write this review. I really could not find anything to complain about. We did visit the Barcelo Palace but did not care about it due to the crowd and too many kids running wild. The Adults Only is the way to go if you want to relax.

“Misleading promotion about resort credit and not truly all-inclusive”

My husband and I went to Barcelo Bavaro Beach Adults Only from 12/27/17-1/1/18. While the beach was beautiful with white powdery sand and blue water, we were underwhelmed by the overall experience. We still managed to have a good time, but we definitely would not be going back to stay here again. Why? 1. False advertising of ALL-INCLUSIVE - This resort advertised on Expedia as all-inclusive. Not true! The only restaurants you can go to without making a reservation are the two buffet restaurants called Caribe Buffet on the Beach side of the resort, or Miramar on the Palace side. Room service is not included. Minibar is included but has very few snacks. Basically it just has 2 very small bags of Doritos and 2 very small bags of peanuts per day. In order to eat at other restaurants on the property, you have to go to Guest Service which was opened only from 8-3, and made a reservation at one of 4 a-la-cart restaurants that are part of the inclusive program. If you want to eat at other restaurants like the Japanese, or Mexican ones, then you have to pay extra. Also, how many dinners at a-la-cart restaurants you can make a reservation depend on how many nights you are staying. Since we stayed 5 nights, the guest service rep said we could make a reservation for 3 nights. They made everything very complicated here. The first night of our stay we did not know where to go eat. We saw the sign Brisa Buffet, so we went there. There were many tables open when we got there since we got there at their opening hour at 7 pm. However, we were not seated since we did not have a reservation. That was when we found out that we had to go to Guest Service to make a reservation, and they were already closed at that time. From our past experiences at other all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica and Cancun, all-inclusive there actually meant ALL inclusive, not partially inclusive like this resort. No restaurant was excluded, and room service was also included at the all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica (Jewel) and Cancun (Hyatt Zilara), so we were surprised by this experience at Barcelo. 2. $1200 Resort Credit promotion on Expedia - part of the reasons we went with this resort was due to the $1200 resort credit promotion offered on Expedia. However, only when we checked in we learned it was not really a resort credit to be used freely. It was only to be used to receive 25% off at the spa, room service, some a-la-cart restaurants, golf, and a few other things, and also 10% off for excursions booked through Vacaciones Barcelo. If we were to really use up the $1200 resort credit, we would have had to spend almost $5000 more. We had booked hotels with resort credit promotion before, and it was always use it for something like spa without having to spend more. It was a real credit, not like this one. So it was really misleading. 3. Customer service not upto the 4.5 star rating - on New Year's eve, the resort had a New Year's eve gala. They kept us waiting for over an hour before the first course was served. The first course was foi gras something which turned out to be VERY SALTY liver. I had to spit it out. It was unedible. The whole table (about 10 people) did not eat it. One of the table mates told a waiter about the saltiness of the liver. The waiter told him he saw other tables eating it just fine, so it seemed to just be his problem. After we found out they had one buffet opened, then we all left to go to the buffet. For those who still want to go to this hotel, I have some info that you may find useful. 1. Shopping - don't bother to go into town to shop for gifts. We had to spend $10 to get to San Juan Plaza and $10 back only to find that the prices at the resort gift shops are actually the same as the stores in San Juan Plaza which mostly had American stores like Quicksilver, IKEA, among others. 2. Electrical outlets - bring an outlet converter that will allow you to use a US plug (I think it's to convert the 220 volt to 110). The first room we were at (3011), there was only one outlet that we could use. The rest of the outlets look like the ones you found in Asia. 3. Barcelo Bavaro Beach Adults Only OR Barcelo Bavaro Palace - We thought the Beach would be a separate resort, but it's on the same property as the Palace. The Beach side was very quiet and not exciting while the Palace side was lively with bigger pools and more activities. So it depends on what you like. If you want to be closer to actions, then choose a room in Building 6 which is the last Beach building before it turns into the Palace. Buildings 3 and 4 are the farthest away from the Palace side. The gym is on the Palace side, so you have to walk quite a way to get there. Buildings 5 and 6 are closer to the lobby of the Beach side, and also close to the Buffet restaurant Caribe. We asked to be moved from Building 3 to Building 6 after the first night. While in Punta Cana, we booked 2 excursions: 1. Monkeyland and ziplines operated by Runner Adventures, and 2. Catalina Island Scuba and Snorkeling. We enjoyed both very much and would highly recommend! The ziplines were fun and safe. I was scared of height, and went with caution always thinking for way to leave if I ever felt scared, but I ended up finishing all 12 ziplines. The Monkeyland was different. The squirrel monkeys were just too adorable. I really enjoyed having them jump on my head and climb all over my shoulders. As for the scuba and snorkeling trip, the water was warm and clear. It was on the caribbean side, and it was definitely worthwhile. I snorkeled while my husband scubaed, and he said it was definitely worth it.
