    “OK place to stay.”

We stayed at the Barcelo Bavaro Palace (Premium Level) From April 14 to April 20th, 2018. We were a group of 9 people (two families) including four children. The hotel facilities are nice and well kept. The rooms are ok and clean (pretty much standard). The food was ok, but it gets tiring after seeing the same dishes every day at the restaurant (the pretty much had the same menu every day). Also, it wold be nice if they had a small snack restaurant by the beach or pool to serve snacks outside the breakfast, lunch and dinner time (small kids can't wait for lunch time usually). The only impressive thing this hotel had was the nightly adult show. It was very well done and surpassed my expectations (however, do not waste your time with the kids show). Customer service is below standard, but not terrible. I would not bother upgrading to the Premium level at this place, since there is no much difference and it is not worth it. It may be Premium standards for them, but it is pretty much basic standards for anywhere else. Overall, we had a good vacation; however, this is a place for one time visit.

    “Nice Hotel, Beach...Food was lacking.”

Upon arriving, we were impressed by the service we received in premium level. Check-in was a breeze with 2 toddlers, and bell took care of our luggage until room was ready. We stayed in an Oceanfront Premium Level Junior suite, which was very nice. Room was clean, and staff was always keeping the room clean and organized through the stay. The beach was very clean and it wasn't overly crowded so getting chairs wasn't an issue. The kids loved the kids pool, although it was a little ridiculous that they couldn't go down the pirate ship slides with adult supervision due to height. The biggest let down for us, and why we probably wont go back, was the food and alcohol. The food was pretty much the same everywhere, bland and not very appetizing. I felt like there wasn't much of a difference between the restaurants and buffet, other than service and a theme. The fact that I couldn't get a cocktail with dinner, even after paying additional for premium level, was disappointing as well. The house wine was undrinkable, and I wasn't paying $100 for a $15 bottle of wine every night. All in all we had a great time and staff was great, but wouldn't go back due to the food / alcohol

    “7th Return Visit”

We stayed at Barcelo Bavaro Palace in Club Premium from Fri. March 9th-March 16th. This is our 7th return to this resort, with a 9 and 10 year old in tow. Our check-in with Gertrude was a wonderful way to spend only 10 minutes of our vacation! The playa is as beautiful as ever; always easy to find perfect chairs on the beach at any time of day. Wonderful towel service, gorgeous grounds to walk of extra calories and sedentary behaviour, as well as, fantastic rooms/cleaning service. Minor annoyances were the mini cans of “Coors Light” versus the old method of Dominican “Presidente” in the room fridges. Better beach bar selections for Club Premium guests (that are wrist-banded) would be appreciated—it is a very long walk to the second floor lounge to receive the upgrade in quality alcohol that guest paid for. FOOD & HOSPITALITY Having visited this Barcelo, 7 times since 2010 (pre-expansion), we see where selections of food and menu’s are constantly being improved upon; we really enjoy the variety, presentation and high quality selections of a la carte options available. We wish to thank Jennifer Castillo in the Club Premium Breakfast/Lunch location set up in the Coral Restaurant. Her daily welcoming smile and attention to all guests demonstrated excellent service; taking time to learn their names, noticing table settings, etc. Her hard-working colleagues, Darling and Carina Pacaud were equally top notch. Thank you for everything. A thoroughly enjoyable evening at La Fuenta began with warm greetings from Jessica at the door, followed by fantastic service, warmth and humour from Alexis De Rosario and Josel at the table. The food was outstanding. This was the first time we enjoyed the French Restaurant, la Comedie. We were completely impressed; food presentation, quality, taste, and service were outstanding. Again, Jessica led us to a great table where Dayfer and Wandersen, as well as, Carlos Singura, made a fantastic team. They explained the menu with panache and were so attentive to timing and replenishing throughout our meal. Thank you for such excellent service. We had an amazing meal at the Tepanyaki Grill and the entertainment and excellent service by Samuel Buscier and Rafai Perez were greatly appreciated. Most of all, we wish to thank Marcy Santana. Her incredibly genuine personality, patience with some guests questionable behaviour(!), and her constant effort & superior service, in the Club Premium Lounge were superb. If there is a “top staff” award to be given, it should be hers. Thank you so much Marcy. Our only negative dining experience was at the Coral for an evening of seafood. While we had an incredible outside table with a beautiful view, despite the cracked glass top, unlit candle, lack of cutlery—through all three courses of the meal. This first alerted us to strained resources/staffing. When the wait staff’s manager came to ask us how our evening was, we answered with “beautiful’ because we are appreciative of the service effort’s, however, he said “no wine, no food—how can it be beautiful? He knew we had been sitting for close to 10minutes at that point”. Sadly, things did not improve significantly and our meal took 1 1/2 in a half-full restaurant. Staffing with enthusiastic, knowledgable, english-speaking wait staff seemed to be a major issue. The food was okay compared to other a la cartes/previous meals there in other years, and we are a seafood loving family. Our children were slightly disappointed that the laser-tag was broken for the entire week (?) that we were there—during busy Spring Break weeks, this seemed a little bit extreme for a repair! We enjoyed riding the train, walking the grounds, chatting with the more outgoing staff, here and there. The evening shows are pretty good, but repetitive—maybe some other themes are needed?? English was not a huge barrier, however, we do rely on travel Spanish to make ordering food from the menu without dietary changes necessary—are staff provided with enough English/French/German training to receive those orders? Finally, we left so satisfied and well-rested after another amazing Barcelo Bavaro Palace vacation. We plan to return and continue to recommend this beautiful resort to others.

“Beautiful Beach....and that is where it ends!”

BEACH IS AMAZING! Book your restaurants reservations right away! If you wait there will be no availability! 1. Food at the buffet was the same and not very enjoyable from day to day. 2. Quality of alcohol and selection was poor. Staff did not know how to mix drinks. After you ordered, you never knew what you were going to get. One day in the premium club lounge, we had Corona and the next day Miller High Life. Staff at the nightly shows never got our drinks right! 3. Not enough bathrooms by the beach and pools. 4. Reservation restaurants need to be more consistent with clothing requirements. Some require closed toe shoes and long pants and some did not. Saw a few people with the wrong clothes and shoes and were still seated and served whereas others were turned away. 5. Service at the La Brisa was so bad that we waited 25 minutes for Dessert that never came, so we left. We were there 1.5 hours with terrible service and average food. 6. Switch up the cheesy shows in the theater. Michael Jackson was the better of them all but for a resort this size the shows should be higher quality! Children’s programs at the show are the same every night, with the same songs. Kids need change too. 7. Rooms requested and paid for in September were not what we were given at Premium initial check in. We had to spend hours with countless managers to get what was paid for. I expected more as a member of the Barceló Group with membership. 8. HUGE Language barrier made for difficulty with service. 9. Spa by the swim up bar. The music was so loud that you could NOT relax while having a treatment. Horrible placement of the SPA! 10. Beach is GORGEOUS! The best part of the resort! 11. Kyoto was the best restaurant with food and service! 12. Restaurants in the Adult only portion of the resort were disappointing. 12. Rooms were spacious, clean and had an amazing Premium Level view of the water. 13. Use the Hobi - Catamaran's! It was the highlight of the trip for the boys in our group. 14. Don't go during spring break as the resort was full of unsupervised drunk 18 year olds on their senior trip with their parents. We were woken up at 1am by a very intoxicated kid knocking on the maid's closet door demanding that his dad open the door. It was a nightmare with young children as there was alot of drunk, rude, entitled, fighting, and obnoxious s kids on their senior trip. They totally took over the swim up bar, entertainment pool, sports bar, and casino area. We avoided all of those areas. Try to explain that to a 7, 9, and 11 year old.
