    Nice property, beach and friendly staff. Seemed understaffed and inconsistent with services. Very spread out. Tried hard, just not as nice of a stay overall compared to other resorts (even their 3 star sister resort about a half mile down beach)

    “Relaxing vacation”

    After checking into an absolutely disgusting hotel in town, Occidental was able to get us a fabulously clean room with relative ease. We were greeted by name upon arrival and enjoyed every second of our time there. Will definitely be back with friends :)

    “Stay away”

    Normal cheap place. Same food every day, nothing in the room worked . Bugs will carry you away . We have been to lots of resorts and this was by far the worst. We can survive on pb and j and this place falls short of that.Save your money book somewhere else. You have been warned . Don't take my word go waste your money and you will see

    “Great stay in a great place”

    The location and services at the Occidental Cozumel were fabulous. The property is located in the middle of a reserve with an excellent ocean view, clear blue water with almost no waves. To reach the beach pool and strand you have to cross a trail with background sounds of wild frogs, crossing coaties, turtles, iguanas, etc. It is simply beautiful. Great service from the staff, too. We were there on vacation in our vacation club and I can say it totally worth it.

    “Resort has potential but disappointed in our experience”

    This could be a great resort but management has to acknowledge a few problems that need resolved first. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The staff for the most part are pleasant and working within the system management has given them. If you have truly experienced a great resort you may struggle here. This property is now a Barcelo owned property. This was a shock to me because I have stayed at Barelo properties that are truly 5 star and excellent. We arrived in the afternoon at 4:30. We were starving. Unfortunately there are no restaurant options open from 4:30 to 6:00. NONE! We were told the lobby bar had snacks. We went for snacks and were told "no snacks today". Great start! We arrived at our room. The room was very nice. Modern, clean and the AC worked great. I did find a nice tangled mess of human hair on the vanity next to my sink. Reminded me of how the rag that cleans the shower and floor is also used on the sink areas! GROSS!! I was also shocked that when I went to use the room coffee machine I found a moldy coffee grounds bag still in the machine. Thank God my wife was not with me, just my son. Unfortunately our room had an adjoining room. A family showed up the second day with multiple children. The room and surrounding walkways became their playground. The noise through the connecting door was unbearable. The staff was kind enough to move us. I am in Mexico 5 to 6 weeks a year. I have a tough stomach and never get sick. I actually got sick and had to miss a day of diving here. Maybe I shouldn't have used the moldy coffee machine! The pool is nice enough but management allows people to drop towels off in the morning and leave them all day saving chairs. We witnessed people leave for hours leaving their towels to save chairs. Many times resorts remove towels if no one is present for over an hour, The adult pool is supposed to be quiet and relaxing. Managemet does not monitor this. We dealt with headbanger music on Bluetooth radios. We also had to witness underage drinking which resulted in vomiting on the pool deck. The Iguana also leave piles of feces on the pool deck which is rarely cleaned up. The food at the restaurants is not good. You will not starve at the buffet but variety is limited. The beach is beautiful! There is also a dive shop on site. Other dive companies also can pick you up at the dock. My review sounds harsh but this is the reality we dealt with.
