    “Paradise awaits!”

Perfect in every way from the time we stepped out of the cab until the day we left. The resort is beautiful, situated on the ocean. The rooms are beautiful and clean, the food is amazing, the drinks are amazing too. The beach is perfect with plenty of beach chairs poolside or near the ocean. We had wonderful service from David and Fernando in the dining room, they had a table for us every time we arrived, very great service. Benjamin in the Lounge bar served wonderful drinks and was always kind and welcoming. They had entertainment each night, our favorite was,The tribute to Michael Jackson, don't miss that one! This resort is very relaxing, low key and beautiful. One more thing- this bay and beach is a place where sea turtles come to lay eggs, there is a turtle rescue just down the beach. We had the opportunity to watch them release 89 hatched baby turtles into the ocean. It was a great experience. See that if you can. We loved our stay and we were sad to leave. One thing that I would have liked is more of a music scene at night.

“Great Staff, beach, location, a few issues”

Pros- Long sandy beach, you can walk for miles. We walked to Bucerias in an hour and a half. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our afternoon cappuccinos made by Carlos Flores. The room was good, good reading lights, but no balcony. Bed was very firm and comfortable. Food at the buffet was good. Recommend the Japanese grill which was excellent. We did the bike tours twice which were lots of fun. Cons- our 5th floor room was across from the open lobby area. It was like an echo chamber, with the noise from the bar which got very loud after 10 p.m. and continued until the bar closed at 1. Very rowdy drunk people. A call to reception got us nowhere. It is very difficult to find shady areas on the beach. The palapas were removed and there are now only tall palm trees that provide limited shade. We had to move our chairs every few minutes chasing the shade. Half of the beach is reserved for Royal Club and First Club members. This area was largely empty while everyone else is crammed into the rest of the beach. It seems to be an attempt by the management to intice people to upgrade, at significant cost. As many others have commented, Wifi is costly. This is the first time we've had to pay for Wifi at an all inclusive.

    “Another Great Vacation”

Returned to the Occidental after staying there in January of 2016. I had no worries about staying there again (March 19-26) as it was great in 2016, beach is awesome, food was excellent no matter where you ate. We upgraded to Royal Club again and was pleased with the upgrade. The 7th floor restaurant was excellent every time and the staff up there were super. Concierge Jerry was great getting us set up and went out of his way to track down an item the wife forgot in a cab we had used...much appreciated! Staff in Royal restaurant were very professional and welcoming each time we went up. Have to mention Luis, Abraham and Alejandro as their service was excellent, thank you guys! Captain David and our awesome bartender Ricardo took very good care of us and I sure hope they continue to work there so we can visit next year! All around this is a very good resort for those who want the smaller feel and quieter times, we will return for a 3rd time soon!😎

    “Excellent!”

This is a wonderful resort! The staff is amazing, the facility is lovely - great pool and lovely accessible beach. The food is good - many, many choices at the buffet. We did not upgrade to the Royal/First Club, but it may be worth it. I highly recommend this resort to anyone! (Although there weren't a LOT of kids there so if you are looking for a resort that specifically caters to children this may not be the one.)

    “Excellent vacations”

THE GOODS: Excellent rooms. Modern and renovated. And the room was always clean on time! Good pool area with lots of tanning chairs as well as at the beach area. Lovely personal everywhere. I would highlight Roberto Laguna at Los Olivos restaurant and Ricardo at the Mexican restaurant. The ladies at the beach area always ready to bring your drinks!. The team for the activities at the pool and for the night shows were amazing! Ernesto Alfaro who helped us a lot with different activities out of the hotel such as fishing scuba diving etc. Food was good and different. The taquitos kiosk at the beach is amazing. NOT THAT GOOD: WIFI is not free and is not cheap. Nevertheless it has pros and conts: more time to enjoy the beach and nature and less to be connected 24 hours. There are no designated smoking areas. It is almost impossible to find one place , except your room, without a smoker besides you.
