    “Nice hotel, staff and location”

Located near the Borj Fez Shopping Mall, the Barcelo is popular with tour groups. The rooms and baths are spacious and well equipped. The breakfast - included in most cases - offer a wide-range of excellent choices. We didn't try the other restaurants because they were pricey. The good news is that there's a wonderful McDonald's next door, the nearby Borj Fez Mall includes a food court with numerous excellent choices, and several restaurants are just a short walk away.

    “Good, but not great”

I was really looking forward to staying at the Barcelo Fes Medina, having heard good things about the Barcelo brand in other cities/countries. I have to say, after spending two nights there, I left feetling slightly disappointed. Best things about the hotel: location, decor, lobby. - Located on a main strip of Hassan II Ave, you walk out the front door and you're right in the middle of some action. To the left, you have several cafes and restaurants, right across the street are several nightclubs and hookah lounges, and to the right is a large shopping mall with modern fashions and food court with good options. - The decor of the hotel and in the rooms is what you would expect of a modern, European brand...splashes of color with orange and lime green on muted backgrounds of cream, taupe, and dark brown. My favorite things in the lobby were the swing chairs...perfect for lazy lounging while waiting for friends or while using the Wi-Fi late at night (see below). - The rooms were clean and spacious enough, the towels in the bathroom were thick and fresh. I slept like a baby in the comfy bed! Worst things about the hotel: food, Wi-fi, and housekeeping services. - So, the food in the hotel restaurant was a bit of a disappointment, as was the service. Ate there for dinner on the first night and the food was bland and uninspiring, served lukewarm, and the service was slow even while staff seemed impatient with clientele. Weird. Breakfast the next morning was much better, but also served buffet-style and with a omelette station, so hard to go wrong there. - Wi-fi connection was supposed to be available in all of the hotel, but it was horrible in the rooms and if you're on the 3rd floor, pretty much non-existent. When I asked at the front desk, they basically said it was a problem of which they have been aware, but nothing could be/was being done. Since I only needed it in the evenings anyway, I just camped out in the lobby lounge and used it there. -One minor thing that irked me: I know in the US we use an excess of everything, including toilet paper. However, it would seem that there should be at least enough in the room for two people to get through 48 hrs, with perhaps a little extra....and should said people run out of paper at 1 am, there should be some place to obtain more, instead if being told "sorry, housekeeping is closed for the night." Great, tell that to my body, thanks. (S/n: This is why one of my colleagues always travels with her own toilet paper!) Overall, it was a nice hotel and it served its purpose well enough. There were just a few things that fell short given what I know of the brand, and I expected a little more.

    “Okay! Nothing special”

Best thing about the hotel was the foyer. Very modern and quirky. Rooms were dissapointing. Bit greasy and dirty. Hairs in bed. Couldnt check in as staff were on strike. Put us up in anothe rhotel after few hours. Then had dispute over pay and booking the following day. Which then eventually got resolved by the manager. Its not bad location. Everything is within reach. Rather pay a little bit extra and go to hotel across jus a few buildings down. Much cleaner and better rooms

    “Acceptable, but not 4-star”

The two nights we stayed at the Barcelo hotel were ok. On the good side: quite good location - close to the Medina (about 5-10 mins with a cab), a Carrefour (sells alcohol) & mall right next to it, mini-market across, some cafes around. Neighborhood seemed safe to walk around. Room was clean (window partly opened); staff was friendly. Wifi worked relatively well. Hotel does not exchange money. Complimentary toiletries included shower gel, shampoo and soap. No complimentary toothbrush. Toilet paper was almost finished when we first entered the room. We called housekeeping, new paper arrived at least 1 hour later. Breakfast at hotel was poor, especially for this category (only 2-3 dishes besides bread, eggs); very very slow egg station; no fresh juice. Dinner: few and tasteless dishes that were not refilled (for vegetarians only pasta); dishes not signed out for content. Bar: Friendly waiter. Bottle of wine costs 200 Drh; DJ did not make much effort. New Year's Celebration: Price of wine went up to 300 Drh. While people were still dancing, the cleaning lady began vacuuming. Elevators: one did not work, the other took ages. Overall, an acceptable city hotel.
