“Excellent value for money but not right by the beach...”

We stayed over Easter at Occidental Estepona Thalasso Spa and it was a pleasure. We were welcomed warmheartedly and we needed to change clothes rather quickly to head out again to play some golf. They told us that there was a room available but it was not such a nice location... We opted to change in the spa area and wait for the room. When we got back we were given the room which was nice. By the way, the spanish beds in general are quite hard and this was no exception... A few days later we decided to upgrade as suggested by another guest couple leaving... What a great idea! We got a beautiful suite with a roof top terrace that could have had 100 people in there all to ourselves and for 40 EUR per night price! This was quickly paid back as we also got a free admission to the spa circuit for 2 as well as a bottle of cava (Spanish champagne), fruit and delicious chocolate to honor my birthday! The staff is very attentive and went out of their way to ensure everything was great. This included picnic bags to go for the early morning golf as the breakfast only opens at 8 am. We also had a 33% discount on parking as we stayed for 5 nights - worth asking for this as it otherwise is a bit expensive at 15 EUR/night. While you can purchase various minibar packages relatively ok prices directly at the hotel, there is a supermarket (Lidl) right around the corner about 300 m away so you can fill it up even more inexpensive yourself. The breakfast buffet was great and lacked nothing. However, you will struggle to get normal black coffee there! You need to make an espresso and add hot water to it - weird... The evening buffet was also ok but the chef totally overcooked my tuna steak... I think it was a matter of poor language skills... I think that they would have redone it if I wanted to but I was not that hungry after all the starters anyway so did not bother. The spa itself was lovely and the circuit area offers many different features to relax sore spots in your body. The treatments are a bit on the expensive side but I enjoyed the Polynesian ritual - particularly the body rub part of it. The massage was ok but not spectacular as the pressure used was too low. The pool area was well maintained and clean. You can hear a little bit noise from the local larger/busy road right next to the hotel but that did not bother us at all. Nor did the location in relation to the beach which is 10 min walk over the busy road... Having been in many beach locations around the world, Costa del Sol is in general not the most spectacular to begin with...

    “Spa and relaxing”

Excellent Thalasso Spa and its a very relaxing hotel, it has the beach at about 20 mins away also it has good restaurants around the area ie Jaipur Purple very good Indian food. As the hotel is only for adults its even more relaxing, I mostly like this hotel because it has a very good spa circuit.

    “Three day break”

I stayed here for a three day break over the bank holiday weekend! The hotel grounds are very modern and beautiful to look at. The pool area is kept very clean. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough to help you. We were bed and breakfast only and there was plenty available to eat and breakfast however it was clear that the majority of items had been brought out from the evening meal before. The eggs were a little snotty and the bacon so overdone it would give you jaw ache. There were plenty of cereals and pastries available so I would suggest sticking to these. Overall the stay was very pleasant and I would definitely return.

“A 4 star hotel, at 3 star prices that delivers 5 star service in a peaceful & tranquil location.”

We stayed at the Occidental Estepona Thalasso Spa for one week as one part of our honeymoon. We choose the hotel for a number of reasons. Firstly, we did not want to be on the Malaga-Marbella stretch so we were looking to be located between Marbella & Estepona. Secondly, the hotel does not allow children so this meant that we would get the peace and quiet that we were looking for! Thirdly, the hotel has an attractive outdoor pool area and also has an indoor pool as part of the spa area – our plan B in case the weather wasn’t great. The 4th reason was that we wanted to explore the area and further and so being near a highway meant that we get to places of interest readily. The fifth reason is that it offered exceptional value for money. And the hotel didn’t disappoint. It more than delivered. We had booked a deluxe room with balcony but on arrival we decided to upgrade a junior suite as we were staying a week. The hotel very kindly offered us a discount on the price and also on the car parking. The hotel also arranged for a bottle of Cava with some hors d’ouvres to be brought to our suite in an ice bucket, not once, but TWICE!!! This was not at all expected and the Cava was crisp and delicious. The suite comprised a large bedroom with a king size bed with doors out to the wrap around terrace, a huge bathroom, a living room and large hallway with storage and safe. I have read reports about the beds not being comfortable and wonder were these reviewers staying at the same hotel???! Our bed seemed larger than a king and was extremely comfortable – my husband snores and usually I don’t sleep too well – I slept exceptionally well and so did he. And I'm a light and fussy sleeper! The breakfast was 5 star standard. A fantastic array of food – hot and cold – delivered to a high standard. The orange juice was freshly squeezed, the fruit was very fresh and a high quality – I’m very particular about this. Several varieties of yogurts and the trimmings were also available for the health conscious. There was the usual variety of cooked breakfast food, cold meats, cheeses, breads, cereals, pastries; the list was endless. There was even a separate counter to cook omelettes which were excellent and another area for ice cream! Cava was also available and I liked the choice of being able to dine out in the outer dining area. Another detail was different varieties of milk were also available. Other nice details was the fresh water with oranges/lemons left at reception for guests. There is lovely little village close to the hotel – 7 minutes walking – called Cancelada that boats several truly amazing restaurants where we dined 2 nights in a row. The beach is approx. a 10 minute walk from the hotel, across the highway, a little tricky to find initially, but well worth the walk. There are also some very interesting furniture shops nearby which on our next visit we would like to explore! I have read reports that the car parking was expensive. We paid €9 a night; discounted from €15. Neither of us thought €15 was expensive for secure car parking but the hotel offered the discount. I have also read reports that the hotel was noisy owing to being so close to the highway – this is simply not true. Most mornings after breakfast, I went to the outdoor pool and relaxed in the garden. I couldn’t hear any traffic. It was very peaceful and tranquil. The staff are exceptionally friendly and professional and it was a pleasure also to meet the General Manager who sets a high standard of service and excellence. I was excited to hear of their plans and wish them well for the future, we will be back! Thank you for a wonderful and memorable week!
