    “So so”

We've just returned from this hotel, it wasnt really what i expected. This hotel is indeed huge but it failed to wow us like the photos did. The rooms were average, if not a little dated with noisy air conditioning, the sofa bed was noisy even with just out 9 year old daughter sleeping in it. On the last but one day, she left her rucksack on the balcony whilst using the bathroom and someone pinched it. We found it later around the back of the apartment, having been emptied all over the floor with the money taken out of it! Who who steal a little girls bag!!. The buffet restaurant was like a cattle market, a small area compared to the size of the hotel, with people walking and pushing their way past everywhere. The other restaurants that appear in pictures are not part of the all Inc package which was disappointing, even though they offer you a 20% discount. The food variety was OK but got boring half way through. The snack bars by the pools were basic with no fruit served and plenty of flies. The pools were nice. The hotel is indeed in a beautiful location on a lovely harbour and a fab walk along the promenade. I found the staff nice, only one man we found rude which was the man on the till in the sports bar, he asked us our room number which we gave and he then gave us attitude when he couldn't charge the drinks to our room, which we didn't want him to do in the 1st place as we were paying cash, we found him very rude after that! Overall, we've been to nicer hotels in Fuerteventura so sadly I don't think we would return to this one.

“Kids club awful - health and safety - did not enjoy - line check-in broken”

I recently stayed for 10 nights in Barcelo El Castillo in Calete da Fuste from the 8th April to the 18th April in Apartment 3212. We had booked a Bungalow Superior - booking made in June 2016. When we received confirmation of booking we were encouraged to check in online for convenience and to speed up the process upon arrival. Before we departed for the airport we checked in online, quite a lengthy process, but when we clicked the done button nothing happened - no confirmation, no error message. We expected to receive confirmation by email, but nothing - so we went through the process a second time with the same result. Upon arrival that evening in El Castillo we were informed that the online system was not working and requested to complete a paper form each to register entering all of the details again - very annoying. We were also informed that we had been upgraded - great. We were provided the key card and give approximate directions. We found it quite difficult to find our accommodation as although the apartments at ground level were numbered there was no indication of the numbers on apartments on the second and third level, visible from ground level which required us to go up every stairs to check the numbers of the higher apartments - the numbers aren’t even sequential so it was a real hunt to find our accommodation. There should be a list of apartments contained within a block visible at ground level. We were also disappointed that the upgrade was, in our eyes, a downgrade in terms of independence. The studio apartment was nicely furnished and clean but still a studio rather than the bungalow we had booked. It was substantially smaller and had no separate bedroom. The bungalow we ordered also appeared to have better self-catering facilities. We were also surprised that, given the provision of a fridge, two ring cooker and microwave along with plates, cutlery etc - there was no method to dry it. The microwave was not properly affixed to its brackets and the fridge rocked and had a shelf that kept falling off. We chose a Barcello resort because of the reputation of the group as a quality establishment and the positive reviews on Trip Advisor and with an 8 year old child we chose it for its child orientated facilities and especially its kids club. Your website focusses heavily on its family friendliness. On the 9th April I brought my son to the kids club and struggled to find anybody in charge or any indication of the planned activities. I eventually found the person responsible - Brian - and introduce my son Jack to him - asked about the times and then offered to provide my name, apartment number, medical details of my son and my mobile ( in any other kids club I always had to fill in a form with these details) I was advised this would not be necessary and no information was taken. I was shocked - how was I to be contacted in case of an emergency? Surely this is a critical breach of health and safety standards. The area where the kids club was held was not secure with gates easily opened allowing any child to wander off. The area was not exclusive to the kids club with anyone, adult or child, able to wander in and out - very unsecure. Over the holiday my son became more and more disinterested in the kids club as the activities were not well planned or sufficiently interesting to keep children of that age entertained. We tried to purchase a couple of coffees at the pool nearest our accommodation but the machine was out of order and when we later purchased 2 capuchins at the main pool we go ones based on instant coffee in two paper cups at €2.30 each - it was terrible. I was also surprised at the minimal lifeguard presence (one for the two pools and kids pool). My wife's birthday was on the Sunday 9th so we decided to go to the A la Carte restaurant on the sea front. Upon arrival at 6.45pm there was one couple seated and no staff presence all in the restaurant - we waited for approx 10 mins and still no staff turned up so we left. I attempted to visit reception on a number of occasions to express my disappointment, air my grievances, but with large numbers of guests checking in the queue was too long and there didn’t seem to be a separate customer service desk for existing guests to speak with a member of the team. We requested a late check out at the time of booking because our flight isn’t until 8pm and I went to the reception desk the day before we were due to depart and was asked to return after 5.30pm. I did and was informed that they could not provide me with a late checkout as the resort was fully booked. I pointed out my unhappiness at this as we had provided plenty of notice and if properly managed it should have been possible to accommodate us. Only after pointing out all of the above to the customer service person did they go into the back office and emerge to offer me an extension until 2pm for the princely sum of €17.50 (which would translate into a daily rate of €210). When I returned to our apartment I checked the Barcello website to find that there was availability of accommodation on that night in the resort and indeed a choice of accommodation available! We got the distinct impression that Barcelo were not interested in providing a late checkout service. During our time at the resort there were plenty of staff wearing smiling tee-shirts wandering the pool area checking that residents were enjoying their holiday - I feel they could be better employed and less irritating if staff were assigned to the deficiencies I have outlined above. We did not enjoy our stay with Barcelo and were very disappointed. We will not recommend to others that they stay in a Barcelo resort and we will provide a truthful review based on our experience on the appropriate review sites. We usually dread when our holiday comes to an end but this time would have happily gone home after the first 5 days.

    “Fab Barcelo”

We stayed in one of the superior bungalows which was very modern, comfy beds and pillows, decent hairdryer, mini toiletries provided, right by the beach with a fab view with our own terrace and sun beds, patio furniture. Flat screen TV with BBC1 etc which was good. Secure gate entry which is a plus. Great vast beach area and plenty of swimming pools. The marina is near by with lovely lounge chairs to take in the view and people watch, there is a fab cocktail bar (which looks like a glass cube ) at the end of the marina called El Faro which has the best views and sunset. The food at the Barcelo was very good there was so much choice and variety it was fab. The facilities for children were also good with activities at the marina with the sea lion show and little mermaid show and for 5 euros you could kiss the sea lion...lol Would I return...definitely!! ... had a great time.
