We where upgraded because it was our anniversary to a studio it was a beautiful room with 2tvs the room was bright and airy and very clean. We paid for half board and have to say the food was exultant and the restaurant was spotless. The staff at reception where very helpful really enjoyed our stay will be back again nothing was to much staff on reception so politely would have no problem recommend this hotel we had a great time

    “Slightly disappointed”

We usually visit Occidental Jandia Mar. But 3 weeks before our holiday found out that the pool my son can swim in was closed for maintenance. Had to change where we could go, anyway due to everything costing around an extra £1000 we went here which cost an extra £300. Staff were lovely. Food hit & miss. Although huge credit to the chef doing omelettes with his extra touch of oregano. Didnt get to properly thank him, but my son & i think he is super talented. He must move to Scotland. Apartment was great. No faults. Please DO NOT go all inclusive. Its not & a rip off. We have visited other Barcelo chains & were dusgusted with how it was set out. We wouldnt return, unless we were b&b. Have to also say my son met Kevin at Occidental Jandia Mar nearly 3yrs ago, in entertainment team. He was delighted to see him here. A credit for sure. My son did also speak to the man with the parrots in a show(my son is 10) to say he Thought that it was cruelty for them to perform, in which the man replied we can discuss this later & left. My sons views were 'coward' and i do agree. He should have spoke to him. The woman at the 'sea-lion' enclosure took the time to talk to him, when he said the same thing & she brilliantly explained about them being rescued. That they also work with children with disabilities. So we absolutely appreciated her doing so. Again a huge credit to her xx

    “Wonderful stay”

We had a lovely 1st floor bungalow with beach and sea views. We were all inclusive and the food was very good, something for everyone. We hired a car for a few days and saw the island which is very diverse and beautiful. We would have no hesitation in recommending to friends and family.

    “Ok stay ”

We stayed at Barcelo Castillo Beach at the end of May 2018. This is rated a 4* hotel. £1200 for seven nights A/inc (not including flights) This is a large self-catering style bungliw/apartnent style resort. With 1 buffet restaurtant for All/inc. On first impressions are pleasing. It's clean, tidy and modern. Overall we where pleased, and would consider coming back. Below I've listed mostly faults. Each one one their own is no big deal. I think staff could approach and deal with guest on a more personnel level. Jet2 reps are very nice and very helpful. Hotel reaches out to more central eurpoen guest from Spain Germany etc and not English. Pool entertainment rarely spoke English. Also in the rooms.... Barcelo, you need to change the headboards in the rooms! They are disgusting; Smelly headboards, made of wicker smelt of old damp, mouldy and body odour. Not pleasant when trying to sleep. Bed sheets not changed all week, maid just about made the bed some days. Dirty glass where not taken away or replaced, all week. Bins where not emptied for days at a time in the Room. Air con faulty towards the end of holiday but we made do as it wasn’t to warm No tea and coffee facilities in the room Didn’t get upgraded which we where suppose to get being Barcelo members, and resort was pretty empty so plenty of availability, we asked at recpition about the upgrade and we where told; the room we had was good enough and we didn’t need up graded. On a plus though beds are very comfortable. Room was really spacious, 2 lovely balcony’s which appears to come with all bungalows. although we are a couple and we where put right outside children’s entertainment area. Towels changed everyday which was great. All inclusive limited: no tea coffee facilities in main dinning room for lunch or dinner. No soft drinks available at breakfast No real milk available all day, only available for few hrs in morning. I love a cup of tea but could only get a oper one in the morning. No bottles of water, water only available from the machine. One morning before we went off on a scheduled tour we arrived early for breakfast, 0700hrs and breakfast buffet starts at 0730. Others where there and waiting as well, chefs where just standing about.... at 0730hrs no hot food ready ie. eggs or pancakes (hot plates where not turned on) at 0755 we had to leave there was still no eggs or pancakes available..... Awful wastage at hotel every plastic cups thrown in bin, even really good plastic cups that we would be reused back home I.e garden party plastics cups thrown in bin every time. quite concerning their lack of recycling. Restaurants On promenade (part of Barceló ) that previously provide discount to all inclusive guest have stopped and now charger full price. All inclusive options not made very clear, one evening towards the end of our holiday we where getting coffee at ice cream counter and we where expecting to pay, only to be told by bar man it’s free to A/Inc. I checked their menu which confirmed this but it was not on our A/Inc guide. A/Inc buffet : It’s just an Average buffet but doesn’t change much, so by 3rd day you are really fed up. That means All inclusive guest are eating in the same restaurant for their whole stay if you stick to it: For us staying one weeks that means eating in the same restaurant 21 times . Restaurant food: Buffet is not varied enough, and when they do try to mix it up it’s not done very well.... at lunchtime one desert available; was profiteroles but no chocolate sauce available , yet there was loads of chocolate sauce in the morning why not put it out.... (no one touched the profiteroles ) One lunch they had Nachos out but no salsa, no guacamole or sour cream? Buffet: they did have a Good selection of quality fresh breads Buffet: Pancakes in the morning are great. The breakfast buffet is the best. I spoke to some repeat guests at the hotel and they have said bed and breakfast is the best option. I think that's the way go go unless u’ve kids that love their fizzy drinks. (and don't mind them warm) Pool bar food is self serve on heated trays not great choice or quality..... actually it’s terrible. They could’ve had slice’s of pizza the same as whats available at lunch, it would’ve gone down so much better!! Dried out processed burgers and pink things I could only call fake sausages. Oven chips that sit on a hot plate all day. Not appetising at all. The Fizzy drinks machine was broken At the main pool and was delivering warm coke, Fanta etc.... the whole stay! Sometimes they weren't fizzy either. At the other smaller pool bars the fizzy drink machines worked fine. Water machines didn’t provide cold water, all of the time. Sometimes water was warm and tasted bad. Machines where playing up. Pool area is very good and when we where there at the end of May there was always sun beds available. It's was an Awful windy week on Barcelo promenade, but only the sports bar pulled their windbreakers down. The rest of the restaurants didn’t bother, and People were freezing and complaining among each other. The Spa is advertised a lot with Castillo Beach. Yet you get no discount unless your a member and charged to use any spa facilities. We tried to get late check out. I asked on the first day and was told to come back on last day. On last day I was told 3 times to come back later to eventually be told no your rooms been allocated out. You think they could’ve told me that at the start to save me coming back and forth so many times. So in the end we where put out of our hotel 11hrs before our flight left, it was a long day and being a Barceló member didn’t really matter. The female staff at the hotel are very nice but I found almost every male staff member I encountered very abrupt. I also noted very little good English speaking within the hotel and children’s entertainment at night, none of it was in English. When children’s videos played there was English subtitles, but most of the kids where to young to read subtitles. The hotel is in a good location within the town. It's probably average to slightly above average in comparison to the other hotels in the area. The hotel/apartments are pretty spread out and rooms can be quite a distance from restaurant and pool. But is still accessible for wheelchair users etc.

“Cannot fault this place at all! Brilliant! ”

I couldn't wait to get home to write a review so doing it now on my last night. This place is amazing! Booked here after a lot of looking around. Got upgraded to a lovely modern bungalow by the beach. It was my birthday and then my partners birthday and our anniversary within the week stay and on arrive there was a bottle of bubbly and chocolates when we arrived in our room for my birthday which was so nice! And then on my bf birthday we got another bottle of bubbly and chocolates sent to the room! Such a lovely touch from the hotel thanks!! Lovely clean room, good size and the beds are so comfortable! Our room was right next to beach with a great beach/sea view! Less than 5 min walk to reception and the restaurant. Dinner each night was really good! Lots to choose from with some freshly cooked meats and fish made to order etc. Definitely somthing for everyone! The dining room wasn't too busy and kept clean and tidy with empty food trays being quickly refilled. Plenty of tables inside and out. We spent all our time by the beach, it was never very busy which was good! You can get some sun loungers for two for €10.50 which isn't bad. You can just lie out on the sand too. The sea was a wee bit chilly at first but once you're in you get use to it and warm up. The beach itself is nice and clean too never any rubbish around which is nice. Can't comment on the pool areas as we wanted to be down at the beach, but there looks like there's plenty of sun loungers and a few pools dotted around the complex. A good shopping centre about a 5/10 min walk from the complex with a supermarket and there is also a wee supermarket on site next to reception which is open till 9. All in all a really nice relaxing stay, all the reception staff members were really helpful nothing was too much bother. Dining staff lovely and friendly too! Thanks for a great holiday, really sad to be going home tomorrow!!
