    “Disappointed”

We visited barcelo Royal level, end of January . First impressions on bookin in, very good, Denise was very welcoming. Was given our key and given a map to find our room, would have expected Royal level, luggage taken to your room for you. Rooms clean but was very disappointed , it was shabby, the kitchen area the units were just painted in black , and it was obvious we’re they tried to make new out of old units. The fridge was rickety and wouldn’t hold the bottle of cava they had left for our use. Could not stand the bottle in the door. The fruit and chocs etc was a nice touch. However that’s were the Royal level ended. We went on to our balcony had paid for suite with sea view. We had the biggest palm tree blocking our view.room 4115. We asked to be moved which we were without any hassle the next day . Identical room, again shabby. Rooms cleaned everyday to a good standard housekeeping was very good . Then we come to Royal level restaurant. The food at dinner was terrible, don’t know how they cook their meat , I couldn’t cut it never mind eat it ,the food was always cold, and not very appetising. The breakfast was great, Fernando who runs the food station at breakfast , was fast efficient, and no matter what you asked for it was cooked perfect. Barcelo are lucky to have him on there team Going back to the name , Royal level,? I would have thought for the money you pay it would have been more exclusive. This is just my opinion but I think it should be child free, there were lots of children at the food stations just left wandering and touching food, others with babies crying, the restaurant isn’t the biggest so when you are trying to pass tables with pushchairs next to tables it just takes away ,the feel , of a quiet dinner ,so it made you want to rush your meal and leave . We then chose to eat evening meal in the restaurants in the town , which made a mockery of the huge cost of the hotel half board. Unfortunately it’s not somewhere I would return to and we visit caletta twice a year .

    “Winter escape”

We had a lovely experience thanks to the friendly and efficient staff. The location is lovely and there was lots of entertainment for those that wanted it. We weren´t very happy with our room and the staff did all they could to change it for us as soon as they could. There was no noise from neighbours and the location was very good overlooking the beach.

    “Loved the Royal Level”

We very much like the Thalasso Spa experience but the rooms, pool, lounging area and bar here were absolutely lovely and the staff very friendly and attentive. Next time we would like to sample the All Inclusive option and be truly indulgent! The walk to town is about 10 minutes and we had no problems watching the Olympics on English speaking tv channels if tv is a deal breaker to anyone on holiday!

    “Royal level good location”

Very good quiet and peaceful . Suite with lounge kitchen bedroom and balcony. Excellent staff. Resturant adjacent with good breakfast and evening meal I was on half board. Pool with plenty of sun loungers and pool bar. Beach nearby good promanade walks. Local bus station about a mile and a half from hotel. Local shops and supermarkets .

    “it;s not royal it's average”

I really wanted this hotel to live up to my expectations but I was let down on so many levels. When I've stayed at the Hard rock hotel rock level on a self catering basis I received free water and soft drinks all day and alcohol for 2 hours at night, small snacks at dinner time and tea coffee and some pastries for breakfast. Melia in Alicante on the club level free water and soft drinks all day with alcohol at lunch time and dinner time. At the royal level Barceló Castillo on a half board basis apart from 2 bottles of water a day I have to pay for soft drinks and at least 5.50 euros for a vodka and coke, I'd expect a discount. Royal level breakfast area was nice but be prepared to queue for your eggs . The pool bar doesn't have hot food only sandwiches. A pool view is a sea view in block 4, if you have a sea view only your room will look onto the back of the sports bar where delivery lorries arrive from 6 am and will wake you up. A south facing sea view room is ideal , your sheltered from the wind and you get the sun till it goes down .You need to leave the apartment complex to go to reception which is a 2 or 3 minute walk or the dinning hall which is just a minute or so down the road. Apart from the night time entertainment there's no night life any where nearby so be prepared to walk. As with all Barceló hotels the walls and floors are thin so high floors when booking or you'll have a heart attack when someone above you drops their hairbrush..lol. . Don't rely on uk tv channels they didn't work, so if your having a stay-in day take a kodi box it will connect to the Wi-Fi. Lock on front door didn't work , both phones not working , no lock on bathroom door and this was our 3rd room as first one had water coming through the bathroom lights 2nd one was behind the sports bar as I mentioned earlier Denise upgraded us to a suite , now Denise was superb in sorting out the mess. The house keeping staff are brilliant , mind and leave a tip for them. All in all it's not royal level it's average level.
