    “family holiday? not sure...”

Like most, we experienced positives and negatives... Rooms I paid extra for the room to have a double superior (the only thing you get for this is a guarantee to have a room above the second floor) and also emailed the hotel in advance and got a decent room. It was on the top floor facing south, which I requested as I didn't want the awful view over the windfarm/chemical plant. The drawback was no sun on balcony after 4pm but views were excellent and room was in a quiet area (apart from the pool party night, which officially was some kind of grand opening, when music went on to midnight followed by lots of drunk people hanging around late - not great if you have young kids. I was also surprised that as a paying guest we were not allowed in the main indoor bar area that night as this area was cornered off for 'the important guests', instead we were forced to stay outside in the freezing wind to watch various 'circus acts' - to be fair I have seen better performances by 'normal people' on the beaches of Thailand - and the highlight appeared to be the free glass of Mojito were were given!). However, walls are super thin and we had the joy of listening to our neighbour snoring through the night, every night (I use earplugs and it still sounded like he was in our room!). The rooms could do with an update/a refresh as they are quite warn and shower was a little mouldy. It was also very odd to have the wardrobe IN the bathroom, did not feel nice. The beds were comfortable. We asked for an extra chair for the balcony, as three of us shared a double room, as well as extra pillows and this was delivered. POOL AREA We arrived on the last day of the maintenance of the pool so it was up and running in the morning of our second day. We thought that this was good news. However, the pool never warmed up, both pools were absolutely freezing and whilst my kids braved it, just, I never made it. Really put a dampener on our stay. Both pools were literally empty all day long. On a good note, there were plenty of sunbeds. Pool area was kept very clean KIDS ACTIVITIES I booked this hotel as it had a kids' club (and heated pool) as well as a 'high ropes' course/play ground. I wanted my kids to have an activity filled and fun holiday. Well...I was utterly disappointed. The high ropes course was locked and out of use and staff told me it had not been in use for a year. The kids club was a joke. Whilst we were there the club was relocated to the cellar area for part of the time as there were renovations being done to the normal area. The activities literally consisted of a box of crayons and some endless supply of white A4 sheets. Staff blamed this on the relocation but we also attended kids club on a few days in its usual location and it was just the same. When I talked to staff about this I was asked to come up with ideas for activities they could do with the kids!!! One day, after another complaint by myself, the manager of the kids club took the initiative of drumming up interest for a football game, about 20 8-12 year old kids took part. What a shame this only happened once as kids loved it (and I am sure the parents did too). EVENING ENTERTAINMENT If you like to watch local bands or take part in Karaoke this is the place for you. In fairness the magic show was good though but that was it I am afraid FOOD/RESTAURANT We only tried the buffet restaurant. There were always a good table available, whilst it felt quite busy we never had to wait to be seated. However, apart from coke/beer you have to wait to be served drinks at the table. The restaurant is short staffed and staff are a bit grumpy and also reluctant to catch your eye. Food OK but VERY samey. Not sure why they didn't run themes as every day felt like same, same. Breakfast was great though with fresh smoothies and juices. LOCATION Too much out of the way. The little town is LOVELY and I regret not selecting a hotel in town. It took us (with kids) a god 45 mins to walk top town, in fact it took longer as we stopped at all the great playgrounds. The beach in town is lovely and the main square. The beach next to the hotel is good for an explore but impossible to swim as very rocky. Overall the hotel was very clean!

Could be a fantastic hotel as the staff are marvellous but some aspects let it down, organisation of entertainment seating arrangements etc, don't get a bed above the lobby and expect an early night the noise is horrendous. The food outside was the same every day but very good however we ate out most nights as the food wasn't great in the restaurant apart from their deserts and cakes which were very good. I am pleased we were only there for a week.

    “Happy kids”

A lovely clean modern hotel. Food was all delicious, well presented and varied. (No idea what some people mean about lack of choice!) Sports facilities were great. Our boys loved the football pitch in particular and played for hours with lots of children. The pool was being cleaned the day we arrived and we're told it would be heated. Our boys were looking forward to using it, however It was far too cold ....my youngest did brave it a few times but only 10 mins at a time. Staff were all friendly and worked very hard. Entertainment was good. Hotel is a little way from the resort but only 4 euros in a taxi. We struggled to get our boys to leave the hotel as they wanted to stay playing with their new friends. Happy kids makes a great holiday for us... I'd try another Barcelo hotel and would recommend this. However we prefer to try different places so probably wouldn't return.

“Could be a great hotel, all the potential”

Hotel looked different to website. Staff were over stretched, especially in the bar area. Not enough reception/bar areas. Entertainment wasn't the best. It's quite a walk into Costa Teguise (at least half an hour of a boring walk) but taxi is only €4 and takes 5minutes. Bus stop right outside of hotel. Costa teguise is a beautiful, untouched, authentic feel area. Food was repetitive, but breakfast choice was great. Pool area was lovely, none of that awful bed reserving, quite relaxed. Drinks choice was fair. Coffee and hot chocolate from the hot drinks machines were gorgeous. Decor is fine, quite shabby in places but modern. Rooms aren't the cleanest but the rest of the hotel is immaculate. One bar area on an evening, have to get there early for a seat as it can get quite over crowded, the bar is too busy too. This could be a great hotel but it felt like it's just trying to find its feet. Animation team were lovely, very welcoming and friendly. Bar staff were very humorous and friendly. Only 10- 15 min transfer from airport.
