    “Absolutely amazing!”

This is my third time I stayed at the Occidental in Cozumel because of the amazing service, food, dinner with music on the beach, excellent food and service in the Royal Club area and beautiful clean room with balcony!

    “Fun trip to Cozumel”

My wife and I just returned from our stay at the Occidental Grand Cozumel. We stayed August 24-31. It's a relatively smaller resort on the south west end of the island, away from the hustle, bustle and cruise ship mayhem of downtown, which is the way we like it. The downtown area is still easily accessible by cab or car rental, the latter of which we did on our second day, as well as using it to tour the majority of the island. They do allow cruise ship day passers, but mostly they were no problem. One guy was a bit of a jerk, but he and his family didn't stay long. We did three different excursions, including the self guided one via the car rental and all met us on or just outside the resort. They have a dive shop, where I took my first dive. The shop sets up at the pool a couple times a day and offers free trial swims around the pool. Great way to drum up business. Very friendly and attentive staff. They also have a Hobie Cat, kayaks and snorkel gear for use by the hotel guests at no extra cost. The grounds were beautiful and pretty well maintained. Wildlife abounds as they are located in a nature preserve. They did have bee issues in the beach club restaurant and the pool bar that we feel really needs to be addressed, but it didn't spoil our stay. The room we had was a one bedroom that consisted of a hotel room with bathroom and a studio lock off consisting of a living room with pull out sofa, a full bathroom, a dining area and small kitchenette. Both had small refrigerators stocked with beer, soda and water and a coffee pot and each had a balcony with two chairs and a small table overlooking the jungle. There are no elevators that I am aware of, so, for those with mobility restrictions should request a first floor unit if possible. The rooms were clean and adequate for our needs and the staff kept the refrigerators stocked. One oddity we did not use much was the "booze wheel" on the dining table. It consisted of four different alcohol bottles, hung upside down and you hold your cup under it and push up gently to dispense said alcohol. English speaking TV channels were lacking, but we didn't go there to watch TV. We tried all of the ala carte restaurants and thought the food was good to very good. The buffet dining was average for an all inclusive and nothing to write home about. The omelet station and fajita station was very good and I primarily took advantage of them. The pools were nice and well maintained with plenty of seating. They had umbrellas, but, in our opinions, they should add shade coverage, such as small pergolas strategically placed for shade, while still leaving areas open for sunning. The beach was nice and the waters beautiful, also with plenty of seating beachside. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment, all of which we enjoyed. All of the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. We were approached once about a time share purchase. We quickly declined and were not asked again for the remainder of our trip. We did not do the Royal level upgrade and, based on what they seemed to offer, didn't feel the extra cost was worth the extra perks. They have a beach party dinner on Thursdays. They have live music, dancing and a piñata for the kids. The buffet food was good, the staff attentive and the view spectacular. All in all, a very enjoyable trip. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.

    “Nice Day Spent”

My partner and I booked a day pass here for a shore excursion on our cruise, and we were both pleased with out choice. The staff were polite, the facilities clean, and the views nice, along with complementary food and drink.

    “Destination Wedding”

My daughters wedding was absolutely beautiful. The sunset backdrop was breathtaking. What a bargain for out of this world optics, service and the wedding meal and cake was great. Labor Day was warm, but pleasant by the beach. Great snorkeling and fun family time.
