    “The most comfortable bed ever!”

Only stayed one night wish it had been longer mainly because of the bed!! It was so comfortable and we all had the best nights sleep. The entertainment was good - a musical production of beauty and the beast. Lots of activities to get involved with. The pool was perfect for the children. Food choice was good and catered all dietary requirements. Would definitely visit again.

    “‘When’s the next flight home?’”

This holiday, given the images and description on the internet, was one my daughter and I were thoroughly looking forward to. It was a 7 day trip to celebrate my 50th birthday, which ultimately started and ended in disappointment. From description; we imagined a beach and town with restaurants and bars, evenings teaming with entertainment and a welcoming resort. The drive from Faro airport into Isla Cristina was lifeless; it is merely a hotel within a run-down area with our 4-star room view being a dried out park and a stunning skateboard half-pipe. A deserted area with nothing to do of an evening other than hardly hearing what ‘showtime’ event was on that night in the resort. That being said; unless you are a family with young children, they do accommodate well for entertainment in terms of games and activities, which at times was endearing! Throughout our stay, the bar staff always supplied us with endless inexperience and top notch rude behaviour. At times they were somewhat intimidating when approached, to the point where my daughter and I gave up even trying to get our watered down Pina Coladas after a 30 minute wait. Going only half-board seemed to be a good idea before we came, but realising the lack of places to eat around the area and the price of food/drinks at the hotel, I suggest going for the all inclusive option. Nonetheless, the buffet-style food served at breakfast and dinner was of a high quality with a variety of choice and different theme of food each evening. If however, you are looking for a sit down meal, accompanied by a long conversation and calming atmosphere, it’s probably not best to eat in this hotel. It was not only rushed but became annoying over time as the waiters/waitresses grabbed your plate before you could say ‘When’s the next flight home?’ We could not fault the accommodation itself. The pools were clean (though a tad cold) and the beds were very comfy. The bedrooms were spotless (the cleaners do a wonderful job), with a great shower and a good amount of space. Occidental Isla Cristina is predominantly a Spanish resort, which in itself is great. All of the families there seem to enjoy themselves with the facilities they have and it is nice to see. The desk staff tried to help at times, but we were quickly dismissed as just a number in the hotel. If they want more British customers, the hotel requires a little more training in customer service and maybe even show a little more respect considering it is a four star hotel which we paid for. Happy to be back in sunny Manchester.

    “What a great find”

We knew it was here, as we're local, but hadn't tried it since it was re-invented as The Oyster Shack. It's an eat-in (or rather out, there are picnic tables and umbrellas) or take-away specialising in very fresh seafood, local as much as possible. Very friendly staff, we had a terrific crab sandwich, a very nice coffee, though the small size is small, and a really delicious locally-made vanilla ice-cream. There is plenty of sand as it's built into the dunes behind Instow beach - at one end, that is - and children's toys. The municipal loos are very handy. You park either in the road just before the turning into the dunes, for free; or further on behind the dunes, for a fee. Don't attempt to stop in the road by the shack, you can get fined on the spot, if you're unlucky, so if you have an elderly or disabled person with you, drop them off before parking, or buy them a take-away and leg it. Plans seem to be afoot to build a shelter for eating out in bad weather, which would be good. Do try it, you won't get better value in many other spots.

“Occidental Isla Cristina Review 4.5/5 stars”

Really good hotel, good food (wide variety of fish and meat)and very friendly personnel. Breakfast is more or less the same every day, they could improve here but buffet and dinner are excellent. Airco in the room is a bit outdated, however there is at least an airco. Sometimes you have to wait long at the bar to get a drink and the bar closes very early at 00.00.

    “3rd time with Barcelo”

This is the 3rd time we have stayed with Barcelo along the Costa de Luz. Family of 2 adults and 2 early teenagers. Welcome at the hotel was very good and Maria of Customer Relationships introduced herself and offered with any issues during our stay and was very helpful. Room was a 2 bed apartment with 2 bathrooms and a living area. Very spacious and comfortable. Only quibble was with air-con as it did not seem to be working properly. Each bedroom had a ceiling fan. Restaurant has an outdoor eating area and always got a table there. Food was very good with lots of choice. Plenty of fish and the teenagers always found something to like. Wine menu was limited in choice, needs more wine from regions beyond Rioja. Stayed on all inclusive for 10 days and thought menu was varied enough each day. Pool was good in scale and temperature. There are wooden canopies around the main pool that limit the sunlight and means that areas lose the sun early in the day. Recommend these are replaced with pop up umbrellas. Beach is close by and is really lovely. Can be explored for crabs and fish. There is a walkway from the hotel to the beach that is under the control of the local council. This needs to be tidied and cleaned up to make the walk easier and safer. This is beyond the control of the hotel and the local council need to take action. Isla Cristina is a lovely working town with a good selection of small shops, restaurants and bars. It has a beautiful church, well worth a visit. Took a daytrip to Huelva via Damas bus service from local bus station. Only €4 each way and frequent. Huelva is a good city to visit with well known Spanish brands available. World Cup started while there and hotel was very well set up for viewing the games. Entertainment team worked hard and some of the acts brought in at night were really very talented especially the Cuban and jazz type acts. Suggest that the Entertainment Team run a wake up session say at 10.30am possibly for stretching, yoga, tai chi, easy activities before the sun gets too hot. All in all an excellent hotel, with pleasant staff, that is very clean and well situated if one likes to be in a town and close to all services while also having a good beach nearby. Strongly recommend for families and tourist seeking a more Spanish experience.
