    “Good vacation”

The Staff and food at this hotel is exceptional. We enjoyed our stay, jadę beautiful weather and met nice people. We had to change the room (broken AC unit and paint falling off the ceiling on the bathroom), but it was resolved quickly and nicely.

“Definitely NOT a 4 Star hotel. Won’t be returning.”

We were a group of 4 adults and 2 children, staying in 2 separate rooms on the ground floor in block 6 on an all inclusive basis. We had a lovely view of the pool, room was clean and the fridge was handy. However, that’s where the positive points end... This is not a 4 star hotel as advertised. To start, our 7 year old had a very squeaky sofa to sleep on, it wasn’t even a pull-out sofa bed. Our 2 year old didn’t even have a bed so it’s a good job we requested a cot. Also from a safety point of view, the front door lock didn’t work, meaning our 2 year old could have easily got out of the room while we were sleeping if she wasn’t in a cot. Our bed was two singles pushed together. We had to wedge one leg with paper because it was shorter than the other and the top half was on wheels, so we couldn’t even roll over in bed without it moving. Bathroom towels and bedding was changed as advertised but the last thing you expect from a 4 star hotel is holes in bedsheets and towels. The only air con in the hotel that worked was in our rooms. No communal areas had any working air con, not even the restaurant. Speaking of the restaurant, my dad and I were the only ones who ate similar food and we were severely ill with vomiting and stomach cramps. I was ill for the first 4 out of 7 days of the holiday. We were fobbed off with staff saying there’s a virus going around. But if that was the case, why didn’t we all catch it? The food is very monotonous and badly laid out - actually it’s a canteen not a restaurant. The A La Carte meal was another let down. My husband could have cooked a better steak. The All Inclusive bar was self service and poorly stocked. If a spirit was running low, the staff would put the bottle further back on the bar but they had to be constantly told by holidaymakers to restock the bar. There was only one lager, “Tropical”. Fruit juices weren’t readily available at the bar, you had to ask for those, which meant waiting for the bar to be manned - this was rare. Entertainment was very hit and miss. For example, last night was literally a woman dancing around showing how to tie a sarong in different ways. Kids were really bored most nights. It’s not a family friendly place either, we had to change our daughter on a sun lounger because there were no sanitary bins or changing units in the toilets around the pool. The pool area was great, but far too cold for our toddler, who was very excited about going into the swimming pool. The pool with the slides was warmer, but the lifeguards changed the rules on a daily basis about what was and wasn’t allowed. The snack bar was a major let down. We expected snacks to be crisps, ice cream etc. But it was just chips, pizza, burger, hot dog or salad. Everyday. And it wasn’t regularly restocked so people had to queue at 11am to stand a chance at getting all of the options. The ice cream was just very tinytubs but it satisfied the kids. On an evening, the kitchen behind the pool bar gave off a disgusting smell (of faeces) so we never bothered sitting there on a night time. The pool area is very badly lit and on our first night here, a few of us tripped over the black raised edge of the pool - very dangerous for both adults and children, especially my mother who is disabled and needs crutches to aide walking. Finally, when my mother went to complain to reception, she stated she wanted financial compensation. The receptionist tried to trick my mother into signing a form which would declare she was satisfied with the compensation offered at the time and would be unable to take the matter further!! Mum refused to sign the form and demanded to first know what the compensation would be. It was lunch! Lunch for 6 all inclusive people on our last day because our all inclusive entitlement runs out at 12pm lunchtime on the day of departure.

    “Lovely holiday”

Just arrived back from a week at this hotel we stayed here 3 years ago and not much has changed. Rooms, we did have a problem with the first one wich was rectified by reception they are a little dated but very spacious the only complaint really the floor was still dusty every day after the maid had been in, beds are super comfy wich is a real plus.Food is fantastic couldn't fault any of the meals whatsoever so much choice, drinks at the pool bar and bars inside are help yourself even the spirits which saves queueing and you can make them to your required taste, only downfall was you had to pay for drinks at the adault only pool although we did know this before we booked. Pool area can be a little cramped but we always managed to get a bed, pools were not mega cold so that was a bonus. Plenty of things to do with the animation team during the day,the usual stuff archery, crazy golf, yoga, water aerobics and other games, they are very energetic and always happy they come out in the morning and do a few songs and dance moves then after lunch and again in the afternoon the majority of people seemed to enjoy it and see it as fun as did we. Evening entertainment was a bit hit and miss and with the seating arrangements its very difficult to see the stage. There is a free bus to the beach and plenty of busses to take you around the island. We have previously visited the sister hotel over the road lanzarote playa 3 times and although we preferred the hotel the food and drink is far superior in the mar but both are good hotels and well worth a visit.

    “Very happy family of 4”

Enjoyed a fantastic family holiday at the Occidental Mar resort. Family of 4 with 7 and 1 year old daughter's. Food was excellent, normally with AI holidays you are able to get something you like but at this resort there was an abundance of fresh culinary delights. The pool scene was excellent with entertainment on during the day and there was never an issue getting a sun lounger regardless of which you preferred.Room was large and spacious (rm 5211) with good AC facilities.Really enjoyed our stay x
